Only because of recent results will anybody say Robertson Arnold and Gomez are better than what we have here at United. Now I'm wondering why VD that's the only one better than any defender we have, the game changer. That's one out of 5. Well if you say the other ones are better than what we have then I will be forced to agree. Because I am trying to wrap my head around how one person out of 5 will make that kind of difference. Messi, Ronaldo and Co still need very good players around them to deliver.

He is a black less injury prone Phil Jones. But then again an injury free Phil Jones is not a bad defender.


Phil Jones has been derailed by injury upon injury, and the trajectory of his career has been permanently altered. In terms of natural ability Smalling and Rojo and co are not on his level.

I really like Bailly but he has to play a more composed and less kamikaze style of defending to really achieve his potential.

However i will still point out the lack of a clear leader at the back.

But then again they might not be as good as you think they are. First of all we don't have a regular CB partnership. Central defence is all about partnerships. It is hard to find a great defence that did not involve a regular pairing e.g Baresi/Costacurta, Adams/Bould, Bruce/Pallister, Rio/Vidic, Terry/Carvalho.

The understanding between the players is almost as important as the individual quality of each player. However we keep changing our defence after every single bad game or mistake.


Your point about the midfield is valid though. Our midfield seems to run an escort service sometimes and if you are short 2 or even 1 in terms of defensive application or discipline then you will struggle.

Yeah we need that partnership asap. I believe with what is happening now Woodward would be forced to bring out huge sum this January or we will be left behind by other top teams. He knows that now
