TechCapon The “Final Edition” of the Volkswagen Beetle popularly known as “The Bug” or the People’s Car will roll off the factory next year July 2019 Volkswagen president Hinrich Woebcken has confirmed due to poor sales. According to a press statement he said “The loss of the Beetle after three generations, over nearly seven decades, will evoke a host of emotions from the Beetle’s many devoted fans,” The iconic Beetles legacy started in Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, commissioned by Adolph Hitler himself after he asked Ferdinand to develop a mass production car that could carry a family of four with luggage. The Volkswagen car company almost collapsed in the aftermath of WW2 but was saved in 1945 by British soldier Major Ivan Hirst. Other car makers including Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor company hated the Beetle because they thing it was too ugly and noisy. The car was also stigmatized because it was Adolph Hitler’s car and therefore attracted hate to the Volkswagen company as Volkswagenwerk at Wolfsburg created vehicles for the army during the war, supported by slave labor. The car entered mass production after World War II, and it debuted in North America in 1949, and within two decades, became one of the world’s best-selling vehicles. Now in it’s third generation with sales rapidly declining, the company has finally decided it’s time for the Beetle to retire so as to enable the company focus on other more lucrative models such as the Passat. The Final Edition of the Beetle will be available in convertible or hardtop, with base prices of $23,045 for a coupe and $27,295 for a convertible. I remember when my country was still my country then. The era when you get beetles as a gift from the government as a graduate then. But not now when a tuber of yam + a palm oil would be given to you as a first graduate of the entire institutions or of your department. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I wud like to see them retain the beetle/bug bt it needs a bigger chassis and better design without losing its trademark shape like the new Mini Cooper |

Beetle, a very funny car, I can't forget the car at all in those days when one of my church member do drive it to church, when he's coming, will know he's the one coming because of the noise, the car is strong but slow, the new modern is quite better than the old modern. 1 Like |
