On 7 July, 2018 Nigerian online newspaper Premium Times broke the story that Adeosun had illegally obtained her NYSC exemption certificate to get into public office. On 9 July, NYSC Director of Press and Public relations, Adeyemi Adenike released a statement that confirmed that Adeosun legitimately submitted a request for an exemption certificate, but also stated that investigations were still ongoing to verify the approval of the exemption certificate. On 14 September, 2018, Adeosun resigned as Minister of Finance due to the alleged NYSC Certificate forgery scandal. Mr. Bilms, if you don't know how the system in this country works, then you should be worried. For those of us who are old and wise enough to understand how the system in this country works, we are already aware that the system operates on the basis of bribery and man-know-man. You will be amazed by the ease with which most people, especially those people in authority, are ready to co-operate with you and look the other way, once you are ready to bribe them. Coupled with the level of poverty in this country, you will understand how easy it is to corrupt others who may have a little moral or fear of God in them. Therefore, it is not even as difficult as you may be thinking that the Adeosun character was able to scale through all those hurdles without being detected. |

Honestly, some people are not different from biblical Pharisee. She had resigned. Isn't this enough for them? Even after prosecuting her and she is sent to jail, of what economic benefit will it add to their pocket? I can bet some people having erection about this news can't boast of 1k in their account. There are many politicians parading fake certificate in the house yet have not been prosecuted. I just feel she is a victim of financial rogue individuals in government. |
Kemi Adeosun and Nigeria's failed institutions By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat The Kemi Adeosun's scandal, now refered to as #KemiGate has exposed how deficient our institutions are and we all need be worried. Beyond any doubt, it has been established that the former minister of Finance procured fake NYSC certificate, which she has now admitted in her resignation letter, many months after the news broke These are 5 issues to worry about: 1. Adeosun obtained fake NYSC certificate, which is against the law. How did this happen? 2. Ogun State House of Assembly didn't detect this forgery and she was cleared for appointment as commissioner. A whole state legislative house. 3. DSS, Nigeria's intelligent agency didn't detect this also and she was adjudged by the agency as clean to be recommended as Minister. How? If DSS couldn't detect this simple matter, shouldn't we be worried about our national security? 4. National Assembly also didn't detect this highly sensitive m |

They truth is the journalist didn't discover anything on his own. Someone high up the chain of command with a bone to pick pointed him in her direction. That's how things work in Nigeria political sphere. It's only when u ve a fallen out with some prominent people that they remember u re defaulting on some things |

blackpanda: Kemi, one of Nigeria's best and respected finance ministers? I wonder what you are smoking. Let's wait to see how many international appointments or awards she will get. Did you read Amina Mohammed's write up on how Kemi and Buhari have taken Nigeria deep into debt it cannot service? About $75billion so far. Kemi was not qualified for that position at all. 2 Likes 1 Share |

It seems you haven't heard that Yoruba are under a generational curse. Never in history of man has there been a people as self-hating as Yoruba. They are ready to destroy or kill their fellow Yoruba to please others, I won't be surprised if the people behind the whole thing are Yoruba. This thread could be the work of another Yoruba. It makes me wonder what's in Yoruba's past that is preventing them from heeding the OSUSU OWO phrase. Anyway there seems to be a little change. I remember few years ago here on nairaland when Igbos would literally poo on Yoruba's head and my people would be out falling over themselves to lick their ass clean. Btw, I kinda feel you are not Yoruba, are you? Tozinetita: |

BigbamoAYO:The people that obtained the forged document for her, were the same people that told the journalist to publish it. The woman offended some people by not allowing them easy access to money like before. She closed all the gaps and they ganged up to teach her a lesson. Nigeria is the ultimate loser in this game, period! 1 Like |

A response to the angry kids of twitter and other ignoramus netizens for booing out a remarkable woman achiever in a government filled with incompetent, unqualified, ancient and patriarchal lot, without considering the nascent nature of our economy. It is worthy to note that Kemi Adeosun is 51 years old ,she started working in Nigeria as a commissioner in 2011. At the age of 44, what is required at this time is the NYSC certificate of exemption and not a certificate of service. The NYSC director for press and public relation(Adeyemi Adenike) affirmed that a legitimate request was submitted by Mrs Kemi .(How hard can it be to get this,i am very sure it cannot be as hard as an international passport ,which one could get in few days with the right money and connections ) The evil media labelled this banal situation as a scandal in an attempt to damage are international profile(which is impressive by the way). How long will we allow dirty old politicians bully the few good ones out of government while we cheer them on? 1 Like |

These questions should be put forward to the governor of Ogun state, who is the sponsor of Mrs. Adeosun. I thought by now he would have responded to this damaging national issue. It was him who brought her as the commissioner for finance Ogun state and handed over to the president as his candidate. She herself too ojukokoro did not allow her recognize that she was not on the same level as Mrs. Iweala. This country has great economists in the group of Mrs. Iweala but APC and its agents will never bring them in. APC has showed further the quality of the party and its leaders. By now APC will go to the press to tell us how they will never allow certificate forgers or looters be part of them. Breeze don blow we all don see yansh of fowl. This woman's career has been ruined because of her membership of this party. Mrs. Okonjo Iweala has been going from strength to strength, but Mrs. Adeosun's reputation has been damaged by her party and the wicked forces within the party. How can she secure a high profile job like Mrs. Iweala in the UK? Recently she got an additional appointment. Will she also resign there? Rather than put this country in a better economic shape, APC has set the country back more. APC should please pack and vacate power. Yeye people. 1 Like 1 Share |

And how has her been there with fake certificate benefitted the Yoruba race? Who by the way told you she is a Nigerian, talkless of being a Yoruba? She was born and bred in Britain. As a British citizen, she carried only British passport until she was 34 according to her narrative. She probably applied only for Nigerian passport when she was already 34, after some power that be promised her a juicy appointment as commissioner down home here. So what is Yoruba about her? She might not even be able to speak a dent of the language, talkness of understanding the culture and the people for all you know. Kemi used a forged NYSC certificate to land a job here at home after spending her years enjoying and growing up in UK. She denied all the brilliant ones who understand Nigeria and it's people and who could have proffered better solution to our problems. She benefitted from the corruption inherent in our system. She is an opportunist, a fraudster and a criminal. You people should stop interpreting issues from emotional point of view and be objective. Your kind of attitude is why Nigeria will never develop. 1 Like |

I must say I stopped being one of PMB's supporters long time ago and I have consistently been criticizing many of his actions on this platform. However, on this Kemi'a issue, something in me is giving the lady a benefit of doubt especially if her account on the incident is correct. We are all aware of the over 45000 fake workers flushed out of national payroll for which PMB has not prosecuted anyone to date , again her ferocious attack on NNPC on the need to remit the appropriate revenue earned are some of the key achievements of this lady and we are all aware that such powerful interest will not stop at any level to kick her out. A lesson has been learnt. If you live outside Nigeria and desire to perfect any documentation, please don't trust any Nigerian agent to handle it for you, walk straight into the appropriate office to request for the procedure, otherwise, by the time you will discover you have been swindled, you may not be as luck as Kemi Adrian. |

blackpanda: Oga express yourself and stop telling ridiculous lies. Trump did not evade tax, he won't dare, na prison straight. Tax evasion is more tougher than arm robbery in USA. He didn't declare or release his tax returns to the public during the debate because he was covering and shielding how much he makes from the public. NYSC is not a judge of competence, but forgery is a criminal offense. Kemi was not criticized because she didn't serve or did NYSC, she was criticized because she presented a fake document, people should get it very Cleary as there's a big difrence. The constitution didn't say someone without NYSC can't hold a position, infact, there's no educational qualifications for been minister. |

divinelove: You need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she did it on purpose and not a victim of scam. Many people drive their imported cars around without knowing the custom papers are fake. Some even drive without knowing their licenses are fake. We have a very convoluted way of doing even the simplest things, perhaps this is why we have many touts around government agencies pretending to help people procure what they should be able to procure themselves. From the sea ports to the Airports to the ministries to passports offices, everywhere. 1 Like |
