Reconstruction of inner streets of Fegge and Woliwo ongoing.

This is commendable, ANSG should imbibe the culture of covering drainages, apart from the fact that they give the city an ambience that are also safe. Those bankers that died during the flooding wouldn't have died if the gutters were closed.
Onitsha and environs need a mayor that will be overseeing the entire place and report to the governor. The issue of indiscriminate pasting of posters and roadside signposts should be eliminated.

Anambra State environmental commissioner is not serious like the predecessor Nwaebili, the old NITEL wires in Onitsha are still an eyesore, I wonder what they actually do in the ministry and the type of people they recruit into the fold, no innovative ideas, they just go to work sign attendance and get paid every month.

The new environment commissioner is far better than the old ones put together within the few months he been in office!. Dmgs, Marine onitsha and a few others are examples of his work. I expect far more than that if our state can compete with Dubai or others

I knew my comment on the water crisis in enugu state would unsettle some people who love telling themselves lies to feel good. The fact is that we have to say these things so that the government of ugwuanyi can sit up and do what is required to lift enugu from its third world status. 90% of Enugu houses don't have running water due to lack of underground water source and a breakdown of the water works in ajalli and oji river. You enter the house of any average enugu resident and your nostrils are immediately assaulted by the offensive odour from shit-full toilets waiting to be flushed by water deliveries via tankers from anambra state. It is unfortunate that we keep showing photos of the facade of ind. layout and new haven to deceive gullibles when the real enugu is water thirsty and hygiene inside most of the houses there are disgusting to say the least. Enugu should give her people water if it wants to rise above its present status of a glorified semi urban settlement.

If ifeanyi Ubah can channel some of these monies he's wasting on football into more meaningful projects, how about build ICT parks in Nnewi, how about building hospitals for his people. Does this man thinks the world revolve around football? Who are his advisers? what a money miss road. This peoject is just a waste of money and will have zero impact on anyone.. I'm supporting Ifeanyi Ubah to go for senate but if this is part of his campaign as he did for governorship then I may have to support my God father Andy Ubah to continue.. what nonsense

Ifeanyi Uba is arrogant and pompous to accept advise, it's one of the reasons I don't like the guy. He is wasting so much on irrelevant projects, all his projects are abandoned and he is not minding starting another one that will be soon abandoned.

I wonder how much money the guy thinks he can realize from politicking that returning Capital Oil to profit won't give him, Ifeanyi Uba nwere nsogbu

Senator Victor Umeh Gives Ten Million Naira Scholarships to Over One Hundred Indigent Students

By Daniel Ezeigwe

Over one hundred indigent students today got a huge support to their educational dreams as the Senator Representating Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh gave them session-long scholarships totalling ten million Naira, to run their various academic programs.

The beneficiaries numbering over one hundred and eighteen, were drawn from post-primary, tertiary, post-graduate program, with each receiving extra book purchase stipend.

The Senator Victor Umeh Scholarship Scheme, an annual program that has been in existence for over ten years, aims to sustain the strong wavelength of education in Anambra State by driving even grassroots participation in the process.

The only working department and agencies in ANSG are ministry of education, agriculture and ABS. The rest are pathetic failures.

For environment, the cities have never been more filthy and chaotic than under Obiano. Unruly markets, dirty gutters, unkempt barrows littering streets, garbage hastily dumped on roads. Again what makes cities livable is A) INFRASTRUCTURE B) TRANSPORT C) PLANNING D) LAW AND ORDER. Onitsha and Awka get a Fail rating in each of these metrics.

The only good thing achieved was banning okada. But no imagination in creating efficient waste disposal, transport systems or infrastructure.

Finally, you responded with your real moniker globemoney, aka anambradota. But it doesn't change the fact that enugu is a glorified semi-urban settlement. A town lacking water for domestic use by its residents is not different from a village. But let's not call enugu a village for the sake of rich anambra men living in ind. layout and new haven even if the other 90% of enugu is more or less a village. Till date, anambra continues to supply enugu town with fresh water via tankers on a daily basis and the situation won't change in the forseeable future.

Nothing but the truth, fact and both.
The achievement of Anambra School system and Agriculture Evolution shadowed the failures of other ministries. People always gloat over Anambra girls winning tech award or Anambra coming first in WAEC and having high cut off mark for Unity school, You will see people talk Anambra Rice, Cucumber, watermelon and many poultry farms that established recently in the State.

Now how are the other ministries faring, nobody can give account of them because they have nothing to showcase to the world. The ministry that would have been so much praised are works, environment and transportation. These are areas that have direct impact on majority of the populace. An average Igbo person just need three things to thrive, security, power and road.

Anambra State Ministry of Environment is not living up to the hype, the roads so dirty, the streets are disgusting, people cross mainroads indiscriminately. They will demolish property but will not beautify the environment, they will leave the debris there and it will amount to another eyesore. The places they are suppose to plant threes they wont but come to express were people will be seeing their eye services to plant two or three tress and post on social media. Many schools in Anmbra State have no trees in their compound, many churches have no trees but the MOE doesnt know these are part of their duty. Pigs are Piglets still roam the streets of Onitsha unchallenged, Ochanja roadside retailers will block half part of the road while motorists, pedestrains and heaps of refuse scramble for other half. The disgusting scene of Niger Street where sand dredgers cover the entire road with sand from the Niger River while their trukcs block half of the road.

The ministry of environment in Anambra State is dead, it does not exist except in the state's payroll. They have failed and need to be overhauled.
I will always say it, this is where Lagos is better, tree planting is like a religion.

Traffic congestion reaches all time high in Onitsha City by
Francis Asika

Onitsha Traffic

Traffic congestion reaches all time high in Onitsha City as the whole metropolis gets gridlocked.
In addition to the single carriage 3-3 Onitsha-Otuocha Road which has been known for her unending lineup of hooting almost-stationary vehicles and the Tarzan area of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway – with a gridlock seen most mornings and evenings (the congestion in both roads even got worse this few weeks with motorists spending up to three hours of slow movement) other intra-city roads have learnt the experience of patiently and profusely waiting a new stream of congestion. How should we have forgotten the legendary gridlock at the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway especially at both ends of the Niger Bridge…an epic experience of journeying five hours from faraway Lagos to the Niger Bridge and spending another five hours at the bridge head (We wouldn’t want to imagine what would happen during the yuletide). The Onitsha-Owerri Road is another purgatory you wouldn’t want to be in this period.

Well, the more baffling conditions are with the intra-city roads which are alien to this high density of traffic jam. Trying to reach from the Onitsha Main Market to Nkpor Junction in this few weeks has been like a journey between universes, all thanks to the gridlocked city especially in the evenings and mornings.

A drive through the metropolis to find the cause of this sudden traffic seemed difficult since there were nothing unusual in the city. Well, some things were found rather unusual. With the ban of the most convenient mode of transportation in Onitsha, the commercial motorcycles popularly known as okada, residents have been forced to get their cars out to the roads. The number of cars on the roads has increased by over a 100% over the past two months! Obviously, with the narrowness of the city roads and a city devoid of dual carriageways we shouldn’t expect anything lesser than what we now see on the road. Many of the new drivers – remember that Okada riders have gone into driving tricycles – are ill-experienced and some others aren’t too conversant with the roads. It wouldn’t be surprising to have cases of minor accidents with the affected motorists exchanging words while their vehicles park in the middle of the road, inhibiting the free flow of traffic. A bigger causative lies in the impatience of these motorists. T-Junctions are mostly the genesis of traffic congestion in the city as motorist would rather not wait for another driving in from a smaller road. The motorist from the smaller road would take any opportunity to drive into the major road and may get locked with an incoming adjacent vehicle. Since there are no functioning traffic lights in the city, we will continue experience this. Again, with the rate of rainfall currently pounding through the city, runoffs seem to be eating through the asphalts of these roads – as a result of failed drainage system – creating potholes that would end up slowing down vehicular movement.

It is now obvious that both the residents and the government have a role to play to get our roads freer especially during this yuletide season. The residents should learn the act of discipline and patience. And the government, they should work to dualise the roads in Onitsha and create alternative routes especially in the 3-3 area of the metropolis. Traffic lights should be provided at all T-Junctions in the city and should be regularly maintained. The maintenance culture should be seen more in the roads and drainage.

If everybody does their parts, Onitsha would be a city we’d all be proud of.

The key areas of tourists interest are Onitsha, Ogbunike,Uke,Aguleri,Awka,Nri, Igbo-Ukwu,Owerre-EZUKALA etc. The development of airport in Anambra state will place a greater role in this regard!
