BeingFrank:There were so many facts I pointed to my lawyer about a tenancy case and he told me they were not tenable in court. To me they were facts, to him they were junks. When we got to court, he was right. I told my structural engineer so many things about my house but he said if they were included they won't approve it. To me it was facts, to him they are junks. Nigerians display a lot of ignorance in other peoples field and come back to say they are proud. As a matter of fact, if you any small thing about medicine, you will immediately know the lady here is just ranting based on emotions not facts. We understand because he lost somebody. It doesn't mean the doctors didn't know what they are doing 6 Likes |

Sorry for the loss of your brother. But is she really sure of the claims she is making? How did she know it was overdose? Does she know the recommended dosage for that particular drug? Again. A lot of adverse reactions occur during and after blood transfusion.. I mean A LOT, even when there donor and recipient's blood group matches.. Woman. Get ur facts right and sue them. Otherwise, you could be sued in return. Once again, sorry for the loss. 1 Like |

This issue is being addressed from the wrong angle, before u transfuse a patient , u have to send their blood for grouping and cross matching to determine the appropriate blood group, the doctor then acts on the result to give appropriate blood for transfusion , if the lab sent a wrong result to the doctors , how will they know that wasn't the patients' blood group , so it could have been a lab error, a case where a patient is blood group A and he is give blood group B , of course he will react , this issue needs to be probed further but the doctors always get the blame. 1 Like |

chronique:thanks @madridguy for calling my attention to this. Since she claimed it was attested to by the doctor, I won't say a mistake wasn't made here. Though appearance has nothing to do with blood. It is the blood group that matters. For example, I can give O negative blood to anybody. So if your blood group is btve, I can give you Btve now and the second pint may be o positive so it may not exactly be the same. But it must be compatible. But there are several blood types not commonly tested that can still cause reaction so even if it is compatible, it can still cause reaction. But blood reaction doesn't mean INSTANT DEATH. In a normal hospital, it rarely cause death because we will know there is reaction. Once there is reaction, we will just stop it, give a certain drip, certain injections to limit the spread. Even without a doctor...a nurse can start the treatment because normally you would have given down instruction in the casenote that IN CASE OF BLOOD TRANSFUSION REACTION...DO THIS AND THAT. So, this may be a genuine case of carelessness which is rare. You know why? You will need to send sample to the lab, the lab will crossmatch the blood with what they have, they will release it with a note stating the blood group of the patient and the blood group of the donor. The doctor or nurse putting it up too would have checked. So it must have passed through at least two officials. Don't forget the blood would have been taking to central bank if it is Lagos where they too would have confirmed the blood type and out logo. We will now remove the logo and put it on the patient card. So while I am not saying mistake is not possible since we are all humans, it is rare and there will be facts backing it up 2 Likes |

ikeno:It is sad the country just lost someone again. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. The point you made here to extort the hospital or the doctors can be counterproductive to the healthcare system. Although the facts she raised has not been verified but you are already proposing on shutting down the hospital with such billions of naira. This will invariably mean that thousands (if not millions) of ordinary citizens that depend on that hospital will be denied adequate healthcare services they desire. Negligence as you pointed out is not the case here. The young man was attended to, and given treatment, which she acknowledged. But mentioning overdosage without evidence has been criticized by previous commenters, so won't go into that. However, blaming doctors who were trying to save the life of her brother and requesting for blood is more of emotions at this moment. If it was wrong blood as she pointed out, the fault can be from a lab scientist that did the crossmatching, however, the doctor bears the blame. It is unfortunate this incidence occurred, but I can see the hospital were doing their best to save the young man. |

collabo4me:That is the fault of the lab not the doctor. More so, it may be from REAGENT too. If the reagent is flat, it won't be the fault of the lab scientists too. But missing your blood group is not enough to make a big mistake in transfusion.... When they want to transfuse, they will still crossmatch it. So even if the lab got the wrong blood group, it will keep showing during cross matching. More so, even if we know your blood group, we still cross match the donor with your blood. After all this, even if you still reacts to the transfusion, there are steps to be taken immediately. Blood transfusion reaction doesn't mean instant death so the lady is not likely correct. If she had solid evidence she would have revealed it here |

[quote author=helpee post=71418537] Doctors will keep getting away with malpractice because of people like you with a biased mind against them . You didn't find out whether what the lady is saying is true, you just conclude they are careless. So once a patient on transfusion dies, it means they gave him wrong blood. For your information in Lagos, we give blood from Lagos central bank. All blood must pass through the central bank where they put Lagos logo before we can transfuse. So assuming what she is saying is even true that they gave wrong blood then it is the fault of Lagos state not the doctor. Moreso, transfusion reaction csn occur even after crossmatching so it doesnt always count as malpractice once you react to blood. The lady didnt tell you her brothers sickness, at presentation. Just talked about overdose and tranafusion and you are here abusing the doctors already.Secondly, how did she know overdose? So she knows the right dose and now knows it is overdose. You think once you accuse a doctor without proof, the doctor is automatically guilty? Gather your proofs. Do autopsy. Not ranting on social media without proofs. By the way, you said you point facts to them....what is fact to you, a layman may be spoken out of ignorance. You are not a doctor. Your facts may be junks[/quote Your facts are clear but are also callously minded and wicked with no emotions to human life@because she's not a doctor abi you fool. Do you know whether the family can afford an autopsy? I pity you, you will never understand someone or some situations until u experience it yourself. |

IamaNigerianGuy:Its always the fault of the patients. Always is. Ill tell the story of my mum. For 3 months they couldnt make a diagnosis. Im not even saying give me a cure jist tell us what is wrong with the woman. Upon all the xrays, scans, ct scans, numerous tests, hundred of thousands of naira , visits to various consultants uet they could t make a simple diagnosis. But according to you its still the patient's fault. SMH |

It's a pity how people pounce on unsubstantiated information and begin to rant. Where is our education taking us to?. Who among all you commenting can say for Sure that the blood type was wrong? Who can tell us what disease the boy had and how severe before presenting to the hospital?, can anybody tell us the drug in question and the wrong dosage?. If you have answers to these questions, please cast your stones. I understand that nothing is really working in Nigeria, health sector inclusive but many doctors and Nurses are trying. BeingFrank: Good afternoon sir! Its unfortunate how some kind of tins happen, and loosing a loved one is sooo terrible. Am sorry about it. But permit me sir to say something on this matter. As a practitioner, i from what the girl explained up there it is simply what we call a blood transfusion reaction. People react to blood being transfused to them and its only “normal”. Transfusion reaction comes in different forms amd its a long tin to start educating here, but if u wish, i can in a reply. Buh if there is a transfusion reaction, a doctor ought to be there to assist the patient from dying. But unfortunately doctor might be far away attending to other patients, nd u will be shocked to hear or see that it is just one or two doctors in the whole hospital attending to patient at that point in time. So the right hlp may not come at the right time. I had an issue working in a general hospital in the south, where a patient had this same reaction. Thank God we were 3(although officially 1, buh 2 friends came to assist), and we sorted it out. Its very very unlikely to giv someone a blood that does nt mtch his cos they undergo screening first. Am nt saying its no possible but the probability is small. Am so sori for ur loss and for others too. I hope this country gets better |
