The Man that replaced Osimhen was even red carded a minute later. And he is a striker too. One of the club's only two strikers. The other is Osimhen.

Osimhen's goal gave them a point even though they finished with 9 men.

BascoVanVeli:
Ok so Victor Osimhen spent exactly 90 minutes on the pitch before being subbed. He touched every blade of grass on that pitch. I personally feel it was a MOTM performance. A lot of clubs will be feeling silly after this season especially those in Belgium who passed up on him.

our weakness in the back is the main reason i clamor for the addition of decent fb players who are willing to switch allegiance to Nigeria. imagine omeruo not been able to get a single minute in a lowly rated la liga team like leganes?

i pointed omeruo's stagnant growth when it comes to players development but someone here reminded me of how he was a defensive kingpin in afcon 2013(which is 5 years ago) and for that reason still deserves to be a constant inclusion in rohr's team list. some even went ahead to criticize rohr for inviting rotherdam's semi ajayi with the notion that he is a championship player but they turned a blind eye on his performances in the league prior to the seychelles match.

if i have my way in super eagles team selection omeruo would have been forgotten a long time ago. this is a kid who came to the scene with so much promise but made a lot of bad and ill advised career moves which stunted his development. the 2-3 seasons omeruo wasted in turkey would have been better utilized in a developmental league where his talent would have been better nurtured.

awaziem wasn't in porto's plan last 2 seasons, he moved to nantes under the guidance and tutelage of an experienced raneiri who polished his game and gave him the confidence to excel in ligue 1 last season. his performance in the league attracted the interest of teams from top leagues with the likes of lyon, wolves and nantes tabling offers which porto rejected.

ekong we all know his story and where he is now playing week in week out for a decent team in one of the top 5 leagues in europe. our shortage of quality in the central defense position really needs to be looked into and if approaching some fb players is the remedy then we need to swallow our pride and reach out to this kids.

fikayo tomori is doing well for derby county in the english championship. akpoguma atleast makes hoffenheim match day squad every weekend and have played for few minutes in bundesliga this season(he is just 23 and still have room for improvement). if we can get this 2 young defenders, they may turn out to be the fulcrum of the team's defence line in the nearest future. they will join the duo of semi ajayi and awaziem to understudy the ever present ekong and aging balogun. to be honest i doubt if omeruo's career will get to the heights we expected and if he doesn't redeem himself by at least playing in half of leganes laliga and copa dey rey matches this season i foresee heading to obscurity

This is really a worrisome development.

And more worrisome is the fact that our Youth coaches have not doen enough to unearth quality defenders from our Youths system. In recent years we have produced fantastic youth teams but hardly have any of the defenders made any meaningful progress. Musa Mohammed seems to be the Manu raised defender that has been trying to put a showing here and there but he still falls short.

Manu, Amuneke and Siasia's teams have always been poor defensively. Could it be that they dont know how to scout defenders or they dont know how to groom defenders or what? Amuneke and Siasia I understand it could be because they are natural forward players but what of Manu?

Idowu, Balogun, Ekong, Omeruo and Shehu are all 25+ already. I hope we dont end up being at the mercy of those FB to fill up our defenses in the next few years?

Whoscored gave it to Vardy with 8.9. Nacho was second with 8.3. Maddiaon was rated 8.0.

All these English boys sef... But Maddison is class too shaa. That his Freekick was awesome but I hope Nacho can hit one of the future FKs Leicester will have as the season goes. He has it in him to notch a FK goal in the EPL.

Yes o! Junior Lokosa ran away from the bank with 200k per goal= 3.8M.

I would have rather they gave a the award for something else like player of the season because Rashidi Yekini's family already give a golden boot award. I know Junior won't mind the cash sha grin
Yeah I wish it was for Player of the season too but nonetheless the cash the burn person eyes!
Hopefully it spurs peeps to "run mad" with goals

Manu teams always have problems in defence. The best his teams gave us has been converted to a DMF.... Wilfred Ndidi.

Amuneke teams have not given us any yet.

Siasia teams gave us Apam and Dele Adeleye but neither had fruitful longevity. The best from a Siasia team remains Taiye Taiwo. Even Olufemi Olubayo was growing into a top RB before death came calling.

Awaziem was in the camps of the Manu and Amuneke teams but he was ineligible for the Amuneke team while he missed out on the Garba team for being too young probably. He was a DMF back then before his conversion.

Fact is truly they haven't given us enough quality at the back so far. We hope future youth/cadet teams will change this

Please did Awaziem play for any npfl clubside?

Very happy for the young lad Osimhen. Getting a start already was a very big plus. Then he goes on to get a goal. Great! Hope he can garner more good performances. I'll just stay calm and watch the boy some more, for the meantime.

I followed the whole U-17 Qualifiers series from when it began in th North zone, Central and Southern zones.
Guinea eliminated Mali in the Semis of Zone A and Mali are defending champs. Senegal beat them all. Beat Guinea bisaau 1-0, Sierra Leone 4-0, Capeverde 6-0 and Guinea 4-0 but I am telling you that they would not beat Ghana or CIV. That zone was weaker than Zone B based on the quality of the teams on display.

Zone A is producing two teams because CAF have made it a new law that it is only the zone of the defending champions that will produce two teams from now on in this new Qualifiers format for the U-17 Afcon. So if we wanna see Nigeria and Ghana at the Next WC in 2021, Nigeria got to win in Tanzania next year. This is how it will be done now in this crazy format.

About Amuneke's eaglets' in defence from 2015, lukman Zakari made a move to Tunisia and from there just faded... The only defensive minded player that is anywhere kinda decent at the Momemt is David Enogela, A DM in that team who paired at the base with Kelechi Nwakali. He is now at Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine in the Top flight. He only joined them this summer.

I really hope we can get it right in terms of unravelling more genuine defensive pearls. We are allowing our attacking philosophy at the age grades make us not identify enough good defensive prospects and I hope that changes with this next batch of U-17 and U-20 teams. Aigbogun and Manu should do more.

Icon4s:

Yes Ndidi but his development came as a DM while Awaziem started off as a DM.

The current Manu's Eaglets are still having defence issues as they conceded in every game.

Just to chip this in, watch out for the Senegalese U17, they have been tipped favorites to win the CAF U17.

They beat Cape Verde 6-0 in the semis and Guinea 4-0 in the final to win the WAFU ZONE A. After equally humiliating other teams in their group.

And as for the Siasia's products, well they may have made the SE more because they came from the U20s which is a closer age category to the senior team. Do u also also know that none of Eguavoen's 2003 Eaglets made the Siasia' 2005 U20 Defense?

All those Amunee's 2015 Eaglets defenders we no hear about them again.

I think we have not been doing enough in scouting and developing defenders at the U17 age grade.

Like thesupernerd said, I also watched the final of the south African zone of the under 17 qualifiers between South Africa and Angola. The quality was really poor. I doubt any of them will beat Ivory coast or Ghana.

O really another red? The coach had already subbed off their first choice striker. I think Victor will be their first choice going forward.

The English are just trying to hype the boy. MOTM should be btw Vardy and Nacho, a FK should not trump a goal and an assist.

Osimhen's short comings has never been his abilities, neither was it due to his attitude, but, his fitness. I am glad he is coming back stronger but I am happier that he left that sick club Wolfsburg to go showcase his talent in a league renowned for its talent production and Polishing. Wolfsburg is fighting relegation and wouldnt have put more Faith in him, hence starving him of opportunities. The Wolfsburg I saw today against Freiburg, might get relegated even before the second half of the season. Osimhen should use this opportunity to reintroduce himself to the world and seek a permanent move away from Wolfsburg. InterMilan, Porto etc still want him till tomorrow. So happy for the boy.
