You still won't learn. In the quest for trying to checkmate everything u will still fall short. That same mechanic will play games with your driver and they will make money out of u. You sound like someone who will be very stingy and trust me, there are some things u just have to let go. Letting go doesn't make you weak. You can't do everything by yourself except your dreams are short. There are reasons why things are delegated to subordinates (I believe next u would say after this pointer is, u would go to the market yourself to buy the missing or bad parts). There are some dues to be paid that's inevitable when it comes to business and if u really wanna go far as a business man then you have to create a conducive structure for whosoever will work for you. I was once a Personal Assistant to a Chief Executive Officer of a construction company and I did the 9-5 stuff for more than 6years, so when it comes to managing business, I can categorically tell you I have an experience in that. When the structure isnt conducive, that's when your Production manager and Head of Quality Control would team up to look for a way to exploit the company, that's when your marketers would prefer to go home and rest instead of putting more hours to work. With the present rate (fare), an investor can't break-even within a year (depends on the amount invested), maybe your modality would have worked when Uber was still uber, when people were easily cashing out 200k weekly but even at that, u would still be shortchanged, it's once again inevitable. Dovehorizon: What if I get a Nigerian used car for less than a million . can I break even within a year using the current model? Actually the fact the driver is the boss is what is annoying me. Imagine a tenant playing boss in a rented apartment |

Phranex:Salutations everyone, I'm not into uber, always peep in to read comments. This comment caught my attention! quote author=Phranex post=71424661] Let's say driver buy fuel 3k but tells me 4k At the end of the he makes 10k (bad day) 10 -4 =6 The driver and I will share 6k .. He gets 2100 (35%) He tells me the truth 10 - 3 = 7 The driver and I share 7k.. He gets 2450 The driver loses if he lies....[/quote] Well I'm not saying its good to lie, but you forgot he already shortchanged you of 1k, so if you add the 1k to his 2100 that gives him 3,100 1 Like |

Phranex: With this your last comment u will loose big time in most businesses. I have told u before that u are suffering from "too much book" syndrome. In businesses, there is a big gulf between whats on paper and what eventually happens. You still have alot to learn. A whole lot. 3 Likes |

Phranex: Fuel is the easy bit, just get a Total fuel card. You'll still get got though. As you said, nothing is fool proof. Let me ask you this, are you intentionally miscalculating to your own self, or you truly don't know? You invest 2.2 million and break even after a year, not 2 as you say. Here it is At 30k per week, 52 weeks = 1,560,000 Of course you can not run 52 weeks in a year and there will be costs. So let's remove 500,000 for downtime and repairs. That gives us an income of is 1,060,000 after 1 year. Add this to the value of your car after 1 year after adjusting for depreciation and inflation. Let us say your 2.2 million Naira car is now valued at 1.7m 1,700,000+1,060,000=2,760,000 On an initial capital of about 2.4m (not 2.2m because of registration, insurance costs etc) You have a profit of 2,760,000-2,400,000 = 360,000 after 52 weeks. So you are breaking even between weeks 40-45. Everything approximated. 2 Likes |

taxiappguy: You didn't factor in repairs. Although, I see some lapses in my model. I will recalculate. I may not get it the first time but im certain it will be worth it.. Just like I read in one of gazuzz comment, drivers might be taking shifts in the future. They will have a park where they resume for duty like a normal work place. If I wish I could make mine a real business with manager of which I will be the first manager. Uber itself disrupted the car hailing business model. Regardless of these comments here. I will try out my model with minimal risk with hope of failing in the first 2 months... I will learn from those months. Key personnels related to car Driver... All he does is drive Mechanic.. All he does is check faults and replace parts Parts dealer. .. All he does is give parts to an errand boy. Errand boy... One of my bike men... Fuel... Fuel card as someone suggested. The driver has no business paying for anything. His job is to drive and receive money from riders. Every morning, he comes to my office to get the car and goes straight to the filling station. He doesn't pay the attendant cos the manager and I have had an understanding.... At the end of the day, he drives the car back to my office. My mechanic and I would have had an understanding. He has a flat service fee regardless of the cars fault. If a part needs replacement, I call all of auto parts dealers (will have like 5) to confirm an estimate of the price of the part to be replaced. Upon confirmation, I will send one of my bike men to get the part from the dealer. When the biker man is there and has received the parts. I will transfer the money to the dealer. The bike man takes the new part to the mechanic. The mechanic fixes it and finds me. I give him his agreed flat rate as well as transport fare. I will try this.. If I fail, I will know why I failed. Please let me fail. I will however continually post updates and feedbacks 2 Likes 1 Share |

Phranex: Guy, na you go tire! It will get to a point your mechanic go tell you story say he's busy. Na only you he dey serve? He go even tell the driver make he look for mechanic nearby and later tell you amount after he don bargain with the driver (extra cash on top the money for the driver for covering up). It is not a must you do this business if you are not okay with the model. That model of yours won't work even if you get a manager/tracker/special mechanic/special fuel station name it some people will just frustrate life out of you for trying to be smart. A dishonest driver will always find ways/means to byepass/outsmart whatever strategy/measure you put in place. Now that you are defending your model upandan, let me ask you this question ... ... Have you taken time to ask yourself what are the disadvantages of this model? Abi the thing go just dey go smoothly like that without any wahala. Above all, a trial of your model will surely convince you. So, go ahead with it don't bother to argue or defend it here it is dead on arrival. #nocrimeintrying 1 Like |

Jomandi13: I can only speak from experience... in terms of the accord 07 to me I was told it was not strong enough for uber type wrk ...but it is ok for personal usage ...so instead I got an 04 civic. Which is very rugged and easy to fix ...the civic is low compare to other cars, but I have no regrets at all ...as a matter of fact I plan to get a civic 05 down the line.... Since u are going to be driving the car urself for uber ,it should be fine... just make sure u use the right oil filter, and coolant ...all these things are very important.. It will reduce your time spend on nairaland looking for a diagnosis online... a lot of people that are seeking online diagnosis are doing so due to lack of proper maintenance of their car ...I just shake my head at times.. Take care of the car and in return it will take care of you.. On uber regeneration part about vehicles, I don't think much has changed... and also elantra is also a good car to look into ,I have few of them.. I have a new respect for elantra from the 07 to 10.. Good cars and rugged.. If they can survive the uber abuse, am sure they can survive personal usage ... and sorry for the late response, have been busy selling my USA Mobil 1 synthetic oil ... goodluck 1 Like |

Phranex: I haven't read everything, infact I didn't read the genesis of this new idea but I like your energy, determination and commitment. It is not easy to come up with a system, so I say kudos to you for your new developed system. Whether it will work or not, is entirely a new challenge but you need to test all your hypothesis, get feedback, improve your system and continuously learn during the course of implementing your new idea. It's a welcome development but would it scale? I like business idea that's scalable? Talk about economy of scale and volume? If it takes too much energy to manage a single drive, what would it take to manage a fleet of drivers. If I have 10 cars in the system, it means I have to recruit other personnel to manage some aspect of the new system? That to me is unnecessary additional cost? Let stop talking about assumption? Give me real figures and let us do comparative analysis vis-in-vis current system. Let this your new idea be test run and come back to do a comprehensive comparative analysis? Godspeed. 2 Likes |
