There were indications in Abuja on Sunday that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party might strike a deal with a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in a bid to win the state rerun governorship election slated for Thursday, investigations by our correspondent have revealed.

Omisore is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the election in which the candidate of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, came first with 254, 698 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, came second with 254,345 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has, however, said there would be rerun in some polling units where elections were cancelled.

The units, which were listed by the commission, are two in Orolu Local Government Area, one in Ife South Local Government Area, one in Ife North Local Government Area and one in Osogbo Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the PDP had already initiated discussions with Omisore towards winning the two units in his stronghold of Ife.

Apart from Omisore, the PDP was said to be planning to meet with candidates of other political parties that had what a source described as a “worthy outing” during the election on Saturday.

Such candidates, it was gathered, are African Democratic Congress’ Fatai Akinbade and Action Democratic Party’s Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.

Already, it was gathered that a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, had spoken with Omisore on the need for the latter to support the PDP candidate in the rerun.

Fani-Kayode, who is also from Ile Ife like the former deputy governor, confirmed that he had spoken with both Omisore and Adeleke on the issue.

The former minister told our correspondent that there was a need for the parties to come together and “bury the ruling party in the state on Thursday.”

He said, “Yes, it is true that I have spoken with my brother, Senator Omisore, and our (PDP) candidate, Senator Adeleke, on the issue.

“I can tell you confidently that both of them are receptive to the idea and I can tell you that we are going to meet together to discuss working relationship before Thursday.

“We are not talking about any condition. We are doing all these for the love of our party and our people. We need to liberate the state from the vultures and invaders of our commonwealth. By the grace of God, we shall do it.”

It was gathered that a former Governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, would be involved in a discussion with Akinbade.

Oyinlola, it was learnt, would prevail on Akinbade, who served as the secretary to the state government while the former military administrator was the governor of the state, to support the deal.

Besides that, it was also learnt that the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, would personally speak with Akinbade, who was also a former state chairman of the PDP while Secondus was also chairman of the former ruling party in Rivers State.

Top sources in the PDP confided in our correspondent that the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, who also heads the party’s 85-member governorship campaign council in the state, would be involved in the negotiations.

It was generally believed that Saraki’s efforts at bringing the runner-up in the party’s governorship primary in the state, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, with Adeleke, helped the party on Saturday.

The source said, “We will involve Saraki in our meetings with these men. We cannot afford to lose the election in the state.

“Then, don’t forget that we have a working relationship with all the opposition political parties under the umbrella called Coalition of United Political Parties. We will invoke the spirit behind that.”

Secondus, who also spoke with our correspondent on the matter, appealed to the aspirants to cooperate with the PDP to “rescue the nation, starting from Osun State, from the grip of a party that is not sensitive to the plight of the citizens.

I don't see how APC could possibly win this.

APC would need to kill Adeleke to win this one.

So, omisore would just say "vote Adeleke", and everyone would queue behind him? Rubbish!

Apparently.
omisore cannot tell those who voted him in the first round who to vote in the second round. That would even damage his political career. If someone was better than him, why did he contest against them?

It's an issue of integrity.

People are wiser now. If u ain't performing well u will be voted out of office. Atleast Politics by Party is gradually dieing out. Very soon we will have very stable political parties in Nigeria that all political parties will fight tooth n nail to occupy a seat. People will vote by choice. #A case study is Osun state where SDP performed well.

Nigeria should vote by choice so that APC PDP won't be an issue again.

Finally we should fight politics by Tribe which I know it's hard task but one day it must surely come to past.

This is not just about Omisore's integrity but his conscience towards his people.

He and Ademola have common enemies in Ogbeni and jagagban, he has lost the election already but can still help to actualize change of power which he craved for.

I hope he will make the right choice and I wish him well.

Win or lose APC have now realized that southwest is no longer their take home.

Do you want me to chronicle the many times PDP had organised sham elections in Nigeria, especially under Maurice Iwu? If it was PDP of old, we would not even be talking of a rerun in a few wards.

Under PDP votes were simply allocated to candidates with the results announced in Abuja even before collation at the collation centres.

Under APC rigging has been reduced to buying of votes and tearing of results sheets in a couple of wards.

PDP organised elections that was criticised by all international observers.

This excuse and propaganda is stale
Prof Jega brought decorum and discipline to INEC, but under Buhari, INEC has been bastardized again, where Buhari's cousin who is an INEC Commissioner is even more powerful than the INEC Chairman

PDP should just stop APC from negotiating with INEC through phone call to avoid regrets.

First I am not a young man, I am probably much older than you.
Secondly, elections under this government are way better than elections under previous governments except those under Humphrey Nwosu. The worst being Maurice Iwu.

Was it not under GEJ that Fayose was rigged into office?

Yes, there are still issues with elections under this government, but it is way better that elections under Jonathan.

You people seem to be confused about the performance of Jega. Most of your colleagues think Jega rigged or at least compromised the elections in favour of Buhari.

Now, list how INEC has bastardized elections. What new guidelines or policy has been used to bastardize recent elections?
Please explain how Buhari's cousin is more powerful than INEC's chairman. Mind you INEC's chairman's powers are highly limited. The main power of INEC's chairman is as regard presidential elections as he is the presiding officer. In the states, the state's commissioner is the one in charge of governorship elections.

If you knew about FAYOSE antecedents in Ekiti State, you will understand that there was no way FAYOSE will lose Elections in Ekiti State..

Chief Obasanjo had to ensure he was Not a Candidate, if not he would have easily won back in 2007...

If you are capable of clear rational thinking, you should know that I was not talking about whether Fayose can win or lose election in Ekiti state, I was telling you that the Jonathan administration rigged Fayose into power.

If you truly know about ekiti politics, then you must suffer from selecting amnesia if you tell me you do not remember so many evidence showing how Fayose in collaboration with Brigadier General Momoh, Obanikoro and Omisore rig the 2014 ekiti election.
The whistle blower, captain Sagir Kylie, who had audio evidence had to flee the country to save his life.
Obanikoro himself has become born again and confessed how they rigged Fayose in.

Fayose is popular in Ekiti, no doubt but Obasanjo rejected him because he had serious allegations against him in Britain. Have you ever heard of Fayose travelling to the UK, US or any other western nations?

Fayemi congratulated him even before Fayose was declared winner, this is because Fayemi did not want to go through the rigours and expense of the legal process. Remember APC disagreed with him on challenging Fayose's victory.

I am not arguing that Jonathan's elections were significantly better than those before him, what I detest is you guys insinuating that elections under this government is the worst in Nigeria's history.

We are praying and working for Nigeria's advancement, but there is a section of the country that wish evil for Nigeria because they do not like the president, forgetting that Buhari is not Nigeria.
