I wanted to start a company in Ghana, this company would have kicked off with initial capital close to 100k USD but they told me the smallest capital required for foreigners is 500k USD! And you have to pay some duties that will be about 50k USD, I knew this was one of the reasons the country ain't developing that fast , considering Ghana has a fairly stable democracy. They aren't investor friendly at all. It is not as if the Govt is providing loans for Ghanaians to start businesses, no way.

Just so you know, with 250k USD you can invest in Turkey and get a citizenship!
they need investors but they drive them away.. that's foolishness

oga are you blaming Ghanaians or Nigerians who lost focus after sending Ghanaians away in most embarrassing way? what is more embarrassing than wearing the "Ghana most go" tag?
we should thank God if Ghanaians eventually decided not to pay us back in our coin by sending us away in a more polite manner.
actually I wish not only Ghana but countries should send us home, maybe atleast that will wake us up from this hibernation we are in now

They don't want foreigners doing retail. It applies to all nationals. Import to Ghana but leave small scale business for Ghanaians, how hard can that be? Serious Governments implement such laws . It's in place in Kenya, Rwanda etc. No retail business for foreigners, deal with it!!
Way to go Ghana cool

Keep your lawlessness to your country. Your leaders have refused to look out for their citizens, don't blame Ghana for that.. The other day a boy was asking/planning to go to Accra to do mai chai by the roadside. Ridiculous. I must travel by force to go pollute countries trying to better themselves. Please I applaud Ghanaian govt . If you have no money for wholesale and bulk importing, come back home let's vote in the right people and make Nigeria great.
you have a point tho

shut up. I do business in Kenya and Ghana and Nigeria. It's not true. Don't say what you don't know. Nigerians pull out of Ghana today, their economy will crumble the next day

If only Ghana can see the positive side of this and attract even more investors form Nigeria and other African countries, collect appropriate taxes, in the next few years they will be like Dubai

what rubbish are you saying? ?

you think you are the only one that travels and does businesses in these countries?

Their law forbids foreigners in doing retail trade, for good reason, so on that basis, the businesses they run are illegal

The Nigerian govt allows all sorts of rubbish in Nigeria, but not all governments are like that.

I was shocked to even see Nigerians trying to wrestle the mobile money business from them in Cape coast undecided when it's clear that it's illegal to do so undecided

Let us try to be law abiding where we go

The National Association of Nigerian Traders on Monday stormed the Economic Community of West African States’ secretariat located in Abuja to protest the alleged closure of shops belonging to Nigerians in Ghana.

The protest, which began at about 9:30am, partially paralysed activities at the ECOWAS Secretariat.

The protesters marched through the streets of Yakubu Gowon Way in Asokoro, a development that led to traffic gridlock in the area.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as: ‘We need ECOWAS intervention’, ‘Ghana, re-open Nigeria’s shops now’, ‘ECOWAS, the situation in Ghana is totally unacceptable’, and ‘Ghana wants AfCTA secretariat but clamps down on African traders’, among others.

Speaking during the protest, the President, NANT, Ken Ukaoha, said that the association was protesting the alleged victimisation of Nigerian businessmen in Ghana.

He stated that the development had got so bad that a law was recently passed by the Ghanaian parliament seeking to make the business environment hostile to foreign investors.

Ukaoha said since Ghana was a signatory to the ECOWAS protocol on free movement of goods and services, there was a need for the commission to caution the government of Ghana.

All you need as minimum capital is 1000000XOF or in some specialised instances if you want to go public, 10,000,000 XOF

And the best part is that restrictions are almost non existent.

you cant await from them to open their market to you completly because of ecowas.....not even eu does that....

and how many ghanaians do you nigerians hire sef when you open shops in ghana....??

Well, whatever is open to anyone, it should be clearly known. Anything wrong with that? I believe Nigerians there only offer what Ghanians need. Or is it Australians who patronise those Nigerian retailers? shocked shocked shocked

If Ghanian retailers had saturated those sectors Nigerian retailers trade in, Nigerians, typically Igbo businessmen, are very savvy and won't go in.

People of a certain age like me, have seen how economic fortunes of countries change. Both in Ghana and Nigeria. So what we think is to punish Nigerians today can turn around next time, we have seen that before. It was Busia expelling Nigerians first from 1969 to 1971, later it was FG expelling foreigners (of which many, but not majority, were Ghanians) in 1983. It took only 12 to 14 years for the tables to turn then.

In a way the Ghana action could be a good thing in disguise. A serious Nigerian leader should address growing poverty at home, reduce Nigerians going abroad other than for leisure, education or serious business. For now Nigeria is putting diplomacy & Africa First Policy before Nigerian citizens. It Should be Nigerians FIRST. Africa has nothing to offer Nigerians. Most are poor, and very envious of Nigerians generally. If it's not "they are taking our women", "it's they are all criminals". As if there is any country where everyone or even 25% are criminals.

Not many African countries would even like Nigeria to be great. We Africans do not love ourselves to that point. It is only lip service. We MUST help and depend on ourselves only. When your country works, even if people do not like you, they will at least respect you.

Even now, not that those Nigerian traders in Ghana cannot make enough money in Nigeria. But Nigerians like to explore new opportunities.

to the best of my knowledge i dont know any restrictions for ghanian business in Nigeria. As a matter of fact you don't even know the unless they tell you they are Ghanaians. Every one to their own hustle, no discrimination
Ghanaian cement companies cannot market their produce in Nigeria
Ghanaian flour Mills cant sell their produce in Nigeria
Ghanaian cannery companies cant access the Nigerian market because you guys cant stand competition

Here you are playing the victim card
ECOWAS was supposed to ensure free trade
you cant ban countries from accessing your market and expect them to open theirs for you

Next will be, severe restrictions on Nigerian Banks in Ghana

Bring facts. If you cant access the market it means you are not competitive. Why do others access the market. What's stops you from marketing your cement when dangote is marketing his in Ghana? You are joy saying the truth. There is no restriction at all.

Just another example to show how clueless you are; where is kasapreko? Aren't they Ghanaians? But origin drove them out of the market. What about burger peanut? You said Ghana businesses aren't allowed to market here and I just gave you an example.

do you even know how long it took Kasapreko before it could enter the Nigerian market
it basically had to result to smuggling it products through
which even cost them more.

Just say you have no idea what it mean to move products across borders or sea ports

The greatest problem with Nigerians is hypocrisy. Ghana now can tell Nigerian to go back to Nigeria. Ghanaian have learnt their lessons and working hard to be better. Keep voting for madmen into office, soon Togo, Chad,Niger will start deporting Nigerians.

More like Ghana shuts down Igbo businesses, knowing fully well that the Nigerian Government will not respond. These are some of the reasons why they will keep on agitating for a sovereign nation if not for any reason ,but for protectionism(retaliation),sadly enough the Nigerian Government has not addressed this dimension of the agitation.
cosmetics in makola market was dominated by Yoruba women. I don't know about now. Building materials by igbos. Exchange by Hausas. Nigerian representatives aboard are useless and as lame as our government back home.

Nigeria has a population of over 180M and good natural resources, there is money in Nigeria way more than Ghana and yet you want to go and compound their problem.

Invest your money in Nigeria or go to Turkey and leave the Ghanaians alone.
