ifyalways:This is a lie. They only need more capital for you to do retail. There are other nationals who own supermarkets. Is that wholesale ? Simply put, petty trader and not retail. |

Most of you just comment on this forum without the full import of the story... Those who vex me most are the few Ghanaians on this forum. People from a different country are throwing are sending wrong impressions about your country to the outside world, others are telling lies and not a single person is debunking their assertions, you are rather going off target. Look I am a full blooded Ghanaian and proud of it. 1) Ghanaians do not hate any body, cool headed Nigerians would attest to this. 2) the law that prohibits foreigners in the retail trade is not a new law- it has been there since God knows when but was revised in 1992 udring the constitutional reviw, besides most countries have it, including Nigeria. 3)The law is mostly misquoted and misrepresented by people and I see that on this forum. 4) To paraphrase it, The law reserves the retail trade for only Ghanaians traders within the Business District. These business districts are simply designated places built by the Ghanaian tax payer. Which means foreigners including Nigerians can do their retail trade so far as its not within the business district. 4) Most Ghanaian traders will want to follow the law by paying their taxes, but such cannot be said of the foreigners, its hard to monitor them, aside that most of the goods sold by these Nigerians are smuggled. This gives them advantage over their Ghanaian counterparts in terms of lower prices. Its not like you know business better than Ghanaians. We can compete with anyone but we want to do it fairly. 5) I can tell you on authority that most of these trade more than what you and i know. Drugs. I have an uncle there i know what i am talking about. Ghana will never sack Nigerians away. We have grown past that stage. If you care to know Nigeria is more protectionist than any country in Africa |

paix: I know you Nigerians look over your shoulders, all paranoid, asking yourselves " will these people (Ghanaians) that we chased out of our country with the help of our government chase us away like we did?" Answer from a proud Ghanaian: NO, The Ghana you see now has matured so much politically, economically and in wisdom, we will not. Even us the citizens will oppose any such move. Your leaders should have shown that maturity when Ghana first drove Nigerians away by exhibiting love and teaching us (Ghanaians) and other Africans the virtue and importance of being there and caring for your brother especially when your brother needed you the most (Ghana was experiencing famine then). I tell you this would have earned Nigeria the real big brother status it so much touts itself with. But after mismanagement of the economy they looked for the usual scapegoat- Ghanaians. They repeated the same mistake Ghanaian leaders did in the 1960s even in the face of worldwide condemnation. Its all passed now we are forging ahead for the better future. Most Nigerians I have met think Ghanaians still hold grudges against their mass deportation. I can tell you for a fact that those who remember it are the older ones and they are few, compared to to the younger generation. Its not like it is taught in our schools. So the likelihood of meeting a Ghanaian youth who knows about it is negligible. But Nigerians seem to derive pleasure in reminding Ghanaians about it. Introduce yourself to Nigerians and they feel this sense of superiority over you, as if all Ghanaians in Nigeria did menial jobs. They begin to see you like they see their abokies from the Northern Nigeria who mostly do menial jobs in the south. lol... Please do remember there were teachers, Managers , University lectures and businessmen/ women and entrepreneurs. Like i said its all history we Ghanaians are looking forward to a better future... And Nigeria, all Africans and everyone would be needed. Long live Ghana-Nigeria relations. Bless 1 Like |

Itsky: Dont say something you cant prove. Besides what you typed just does not make sense. Look at the hardship Ghana was going through, famine, recession, corruption and incompetence. You think they will do something like that to bring their citizens back to the county only to double their woes at home. Please use your head... It will help you. Bless. |

BedLam: Please and please, I take God beg you stop misinforming the public. and stop acting like you are wiser or smarter than those who drafted our constitution. Sir, I just want to suggest to you that all you typed up there is untrue and whoever gave you that information is a lier. In fact foreigners can engage in the retail business but what our constitution seek to do was to encourage massive investment in formal retail business. Hence the rule that foreigners invest 300k usd and employ a few Ghanaians. Of course noone will invest such amount and not make it a serious business. This is to reduce petty trading and formalize the economy. Thanks Nigeria does it too. ask |

Mavrik:You are mad. I went to the the registrars office at Ridge or what you call it. Could I have gotten wrong info from the registrars office ? The rest is 500k capital, go argue with your ancestors. And who told you starting a business with 50k USD is petty retail? Or maybe you don't understand how businesses grow. Dont quote me again, unless you are going to use your brain this time around. |

BedLam: Oh my brother/Sister... you have disappointed me. I did not insult you in my post. I was just trying to debunk what you typed up there, so why do you think you have to insult me in other to get your point across. Look I know you had hopes in Buhari turning your country into Dubai in just one term and so some of you were hoodwinked into voting for him. I know your country is going through a hard time. The security issues, electricity, corrupt politicians, ineffective government and all that but hey....... You are not alone in this one, Most countries in Africa are facing it maybe in varying degrees so chill OK. It shall be alright. I believe there are better days ahead for all African countries. OOo ok I get you now... Thats if you want to fully own it as a foreigner but with 200K you can do if you partner with a Ghanaian. Well maybe... I don't know the type of business but what I know is if its the retail business then you require 300K USD and must employ a few Ghanaians. I have friends in the Register Generals Department. If I may ask what line of business is it? Bless |
