Icon4s: Oga this is not CAF champions league we are talking about here or Barcelona v PSG. 5-1 means you won't win by more than one goal if at all. 5 years is a lifetime in the NPFL for various reasons so it won't give a clear representation of what is going on. For example it won't tell you that Plateau have one of the best scouts in the country in coach Bros or that Adbu Maikaba is a gem who has transformed Akwa from a perennial relegation battle into legitimate contender. |

BascoVanVeli: I am telling you that Kwara United beating Abia Warriors does mean that they are superior to Abia Warriors. If they play a repeat of that game at same venue there is a possibility that Abia Warriors can beat Kwara United 4-0. That is what I am telling you. There is no clear cut difference in terms of strength between those clubs. And I hope you know Abia Warriors finished above Kwara United on the NPFL table? Besides, the NPFL did not just start this year. What has been the results between the two sides in the last 2years? You said 5years is like for ever in NPFL but for those of us that have been following the Nigerian league for decades, 5years is a very short period. Your not being able to give me the list of consistent top 4 performers in the last 5years is just a simple testament that there are no heavy weights and no light weights. There is no clear cut difference between the teams in the NPFL. O Pari. Besides, teams being of almost equal strenght is not neccessarily bad for the league. It simply implies competitiveness. You can also argue from that angle. |

Odunayaw: My brother I can only single out Enyimba as being fairly consistent all through these last 5 years. Akwa has also tried to rub shoulders. Enyimba, Pillars and Rangers are Traditional NPFL Giants over the last 2 decades but have mostly been inconsistent in the last 5years giving room for others like Akwa-United, MFM, Rivers United, Plateau United and recently Lobi stars to ascend the summits of the league table. If there is a league clash between Rangers and Wikki Tourist, the easiest way to determining who will likely win is to know who is playing at home. A club like Enyimba can travel to Go Round FC and go and lose 3-0! The only major difference between Enyimba and the other clubs now is their continental track record. The other NPFL teams do not have the spines to achieve on the continent. It may interest you to know that the last time a Nigerian Club got to the semis of any CAF Club competition was Sunshine Stars in 2012! So in the last 5years who were the clubs playing continental football? What went wrong? The traditional giants of the NPFL have gone to sleep leaving clubs that do not have the pedigree on the continent to run the show. And now because of these woeful performances in the recent past CAF has taken away 2 slots from Nigeria and passed over to Mozambique. It simply means the Mozambican Clubs are performing better than Nigerian Clubs presently on the continent. For us to know where we are going to, we need to first remember where we are coming from and then where we are presently and then we plot our future course. |

Icon4s: Now I am asking u to give an example. Tell me when a team got a 5-1 victory at home but went on to lose 4-0 away? Trust me travelling away takes a lot from players and this is why I am excited about the Aiteo being played in neutral locations where clubs don't have to travel at least for the group stage. BTW Abia could only muster a 1-0 victory at home in their only previous meeting so there goes your argument. You have said u don't follow the league so why should u think u know what is going on? In 5 years u could lose a whole team to stuff like mass player release, player transfers and even just change of government to one who could care less about football. 5 years ago Akwa was a relegation struggler now they are one of the best in the country and that is down to the governor and coach. If to say another governor gets elected they could suffer. |

In my opinion,Mourinho is not that excellent as a coach methodically. His man-management is even poorer. I've been saying this for 2-3 years. These poor results are no surprise to me. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by BascoVanVeli(m): 10:55am On Sep 26, 2018 |
Icon4s: America is the undisputed home of basketball. It is very unfair to expect the NBF to get our players up to that level. There is a court on every corner in the states, even in front of people's houses. The level in Nigeria is improving rapidly but for now the best players are in American. At 14 you could play 50 matches in a year, compare that to the 20 or so grown ups play in Nigeria. I just pray that the FB will change our BBall by doing more clinics in the country to help our grassroots to sprout. 1 Like |

BascoVanVeli: At the first bolded you are telling me an NPFL team cannot lose 5-1 away and win 4-0 at home. What I even described was not a Home and Away thing. If they replay that game at the same venue an Abia Warrior that lost 5-1 can beat Kwara United 4-0. I am just trying to show you that their is no supremacy between these NPFL clubs. And the second bolded, who says I dont follow the league? Do you know that after the EPL the next league I follow is the NPFL even ahead of the La Liga and Bundesliga? I must have mentioned I no longer follow up to the extent that I used to but that does not mean I do not follow at all. Oga, I was a Nigerian Professional League (NPL) Journalist. I didnt just watch from the TV I visited match venues and interviewed players and coaches. Your last paragraph underlines the inconsistency I am talking about. So when I say a club can come from NNL or battle relegation last season and come back to compete for title next season while a tittle winner can battle relegation next season, why did you dispute it? You need to accept the current reallity of the Nigerian league. It is at its worst state ever. |

Only one player in the current team is home based though I think one or two other ones were born here... Our basketball league just like the NPFL is in a sorry state |
