Depends on a whole lot of factors. A lot could go wrong with choosing to cohabit before getting married. On the flip side, you should'nt marry someone you have not spent sometime with.

How does the man behave? This question is important because most men will definitely see you finish if you stay with them for a long time with no serious commitment. To avoid this, get a commitment. However, be advised not to be caught with that kind of man because marriage is looooonnnnggg.

How does the woman behave? Are you the we don catch am crew? If because you stay with a man, you think and act like you already have the ring, your case is longgggggg.

What are the circumstances? Are you with a man/woman because you dont have money to stay on your own? Get a job. Don't let anyone throw you out in the middle of the night.

Cohabiting is best done between MATURE men and women that are independent emotionally and financially. In this case, you will be verryyyyy happyyy.

I also think it's wrong and it affects the girl more negatively. The guy can easily move on even in the same environment

There's nothing bad about that.

I don't practice it but that doesn't mean i'm a saint. It's simply because i'm not in the best position to practice it... Living together would give room for getting to know each other and knowing your likes and dislikes.

It's not all about the knacking but a lot about being tolerant of each other's nasty attitudes, if there's any.

Cohabiting is simply “living together with”. So, should unmarried folks live together?

Generally, married people live together, except for some rare exceptions of course. However, people seem to be divided in opinions when it comes to the question of whether or not couples that are not legally married should live together, for varying reasons.

It has become common to see young people who are engaged or merely dating cohabiting, and this seems either awkward or straight out wrong to certain people. For these people it either crosses their conservative boundaries or it runs against their logic.

According to Halima: “People who aren’t married yet shouldn’t be staying together. Cohabitation is for married people because they are more equipped to deal with the consequences, not unmarried couples.”

She also argued that people who aren’t married yet should create certain spaces for themselves to make the relationship more solid. Moreover, she added, if they get married they will have a whole lifetime to live together. So why the rush?

In agreeing with Halima, Blessing, a hairdresser said that a girl staying with her boyfriend or any partner she’s not legally married to only makes her a mere possession of her boyfriend and that locks her away from other potential relationships with the right people. According to her, young people should have the space and freedom to explore for themselves and living with a partner robs them of that.

However, Peter disagreed strongly. He argued that people who are hoping to get married could live together in preparation for their marriage. He insisted that living together builds a tighter bond between the couple and that they also learn more about themselves. He said too that living together will give them a glimpse of what being married to each other would be like, and with that they can decide whether or not they are willing to tie the knot in the long run. Moreover, he added, living together saves the cost of rent.

So, here’s a question for the readers: Is it appropriate for unmarried couples to live together?

Straight answer tobthe question without reading the epistle: WRONG. Why? cos its wrong in God's sight

According to the Christian faith, its wrong, but according to the constitution you have the right to associate. So the answer is yes or no depending on your belief

cool cool

Personally, I don't subscribe to it. Simply because if you can cohabit with each other, then that is already a sign that you want to settle down with each other. So why not go ahead and complete the simple formality of getting married in order to add legitimacy to your cohabitation? At least do a registry wedding if you feel that your pockets are not deep enough for introduction. Nigerian law does not recognise Common law unions and if your cohabitation produces children, Nigerian society (which is global leader in hyprocrisy and double standards) will make the children suffer stigmatisation because of the actions of the parents.

Marriage is not a "simple formality" in majority of the world.
Well, maybe it is for women.
They generally stand to gain more from it.

a lot of people live together and give birth without a legally recognized marriage, their parents just meet and they move in and start living, society doesn't stigmatize them, at least here in Yoruba land

When I used the term "simple formality", I meant giving cohabitation a legal recognition in the eyes of the law. Getting married at a Marriage Registry only requires 2 witnesses and all you pay is about 2k for the Marriage License. Once you have that marriage licence, you are married as far as Nigerian Law goes. I call it a simple formality because it dispenses with the usual expensive ceremony and celebrations that come with a typical wedding day.

Wrong, most times the lady loses more cry

But then majority of marriages in the city like Lagos, etc started from co-habiting, so it works for some people, still I won't advocate for it sha

I've lived in Yorubaland so I know about the yoruba concept of "Omo Ale". I'm not aware of any part of Yoruba land where cohabitation is accepted. What I do know is that there is usually a type of informal introduction ceremony and handing over of the wife to her husband after payment of a token bride price.

Re: Cohabiting In Relationship: Right Or Wrong? by Nobody: 6:02pm On Sep 26, 2018
it doesn't affect the male much, in this part of the world due to culture, but females... I once asked a female pal, that was cohabiting these, if your brother is getting married to a girl, that you know, once cohabited with some other guy, and by curiosity asks of your opinion, what is the answer gonna be ....
For me, cohabiting like two months before marriage is great, but cohabiting without a clear cut out destination is demeaning.

NO. Very wrong. What is happening to our moral compass! Small thing a lady is called Hoe, yet some dumb ass ladies are saying yes. So how many guys will u sleep with in the name of cohabiting before u marry lass lass. I can't comman be preaching. Morally, wrong. Religiously, wrong.
