How was your experience with Royal Air Moroc, and did the company provide an hotel reservation for you, during your 12HRS layover?

Thanks.

And if you are not there for birth or had a previous birth trip.

They seem to hate the idea of Nigerians getting their Blue passport just like that.

NO they wont provide hotel because it is a voluntary layover as they have a shorter layover, only flights that are involuntary long layovers that qualify for the complimentary hotel.

That is not totally correct Sir. I do not know of Air Maroc. But I did witnessed that of Egypt Air 13 hours overnight layover. They lodged us and several before us in decent hotel with buffet dinner and breakfast before departure to the Airport. Our guy here said their layover was in the day time, so they might be left at the Airport.

Nice thread and some funny answers.

A small stuff that needs some advice on. Arrival airport on DS160 form filled as xxxxxx airport while arrival airport ( point of entry) on ticket shows *******. Any implications on this. Airline going through ****** is cheaper than xxxxxx that was filled as arrival airport.

Any implications please, will appreciate all responses.

Thanks

So after reading this thread as if I was studying for JAMB, wifey and I boarded Lufthansa to Frankfurt, Germany, showered and freshened up at the airport (you can have your bath at the airport for 6 Euros or 8 US Dollars) and then boarded the 10+hour haul to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston.

There was a long queue and wifey and I joined. She gently shifted aside and made sure I was in front of her since I was the one who claimed to have covered the @seyewest College of US Point of Entry Studies syllabus grin Smart woman! Our papers and intentions were legit but I did not want one overzealous CBP officer to make life difficult for us.

When it was our turn, the white CBP officer raised his hand, turned his head to call us and stopped when he noticed I was black. He then turned away and waited to see if I will walk towards him without being called. Hmmm ... see psychological warfare! shocked But I was fully prepared! wink I remembered what I had read on this thread that CBP officers are trained to look out for signs of impatience, tension and discomfort. I remained on the line and after about five seconds, he beckoned to me to approach. I told wifey to remain on the line, collected her passport and went to him. I greeted him, he grunted an inaudible response without even looking at me and asked for my passport. I handed it over.

CBP Officer: Flips through my passport to the visa page, looks at the data page, looks at me then, "why are you visiting the US?"

Me: I am attending a training being organised by XYZ company from XX to XX September.

CBP: So, what do you do?

Me: I am a lawyer with ABC company.

He stopped and looked at me with a new a hint of respect in his eyes and I felt my heart swell with that lawyerly pride only a learned friend can understand. grin.

CBP: How long will you be staying in the US?

Me: Just nine days.

CBP: What did you say you did for XYZ company, again? Immediately, alarm bells sounded in my head! shocked shocked shocked It was a trick question! So, I calmly responded.

Me: I do not work with XYZ company. I said I am a lawyer with ABC company. XYZ company is one of our clients and they are organising the training.

CBP: 'Oh! I See. Ok. Place your right thumb on.... ' I interrupted him gently.

Me: My apologies. My wife is still on the queue. I have her passport here and I wonder if she can join us.

CBP: Your wife is on the queue? Sure she can join us.

I beckoned to wifey and she joined us.

CBP: So what will she be doing while you are attending the training?

Me: 'Shopping! That's one thing I'm sure she'll be doing!' And I glared at my wife in mock shock and rolled my eyes. That broke the ice and we all laughed. Other Nigerians on the queue looked at us as if our juju was working better and they needed the number of our babalawo. cheesy

Me: 'We declared that we were carrying food items on our card.' You know that once Nigerian relations hear that you are coming, you will become courier service for egusi, ogbono, dried fish, indomie etc.

CBP: Oh! Yeah! Good thing you declared cos if you went through without declaring, you will be fined. So this is what you'll do ...' and he directed us on where to go and what to do. We went there and did as he directed and we were out of the airport in less than 10 minutes.

One Nigerian couple ahead of us on the other line were grilled by one female, Latino CBP officer from when we joined the queue until we left. The man was frustrated and made the mistake of raising his voice. His wife was almost crying. I felt sorry for them but then, they did not register to attend the @seyewest College of US Point of Entry studies. wink

Please avoid cab drivers offering to drop you off even if they are pidgin English speaking Nigerians. They are just there to rip you off! If nobody is picking you up, use Uber or a registered cab. You can't come from Naija and fall mugu in the abroad!

And it's a wrap people! grin

Before it used to be no big deal... but you have to think of the long term effect of decisions you make.. you can change it to 7 weeks but it may affect her dropbox application... so the decision is yours.

Highlights of this trip report include:

The Emirates Economy flight from Abuja (ABV) to Dubai (DXB)
The Copthorne Hotel Deira, Dubai
The Dubai Train ride
City Centre Mall, Deira and the Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa
The famous Dubai Fountain show
Emirates Economy flight from Dubai (DXB) to Washington (IAD)
The Transfer from Airplane to Mobile lounge

My first ever trip report on nairaland, even though this is one of my numerous trip to the U.S, I have the options of flying with British Airways, Air France, Ethiopia Airline, Lufthansa, Emirates Airlines, Turkish Airlines to Dulles International Airport, Washington from Abuja where I’m based. I choose Emirates Airline because of this important reason which was; flying from Abuja means I will qualify for Emirates Connect, if my stopover in Dubai is more than 8 hours for Economy class and best connection time is not available (meanwhile my stopover is for 21 hrs) secondly my friend work around IAD and lives in Maryland so it’s a no-brainer and the best part is that I can do this on a saver economy ticket.

The Dubai Train ride

The famous Dubai Fountain show

We disembarked at terminal 3 and I took a train to terminal 1 for STPC visa processing provided by Emirates Connect, transfer to the hotel was done an hour and 12 mins after touchdown which is not bad considering that we landed in Dubai around 04:03 am Dubai time.Check-in was done within 5 mins of reaching the Hotel (Copthorne Hotel Deira, Dubai) and I slept till around 1 pm local time. The Emirates Customers care unit advised me to take the phone to Deira City Mall for repair, getting to the Mall means I had to get a metro pass.I got a metro pass for 22AED (N2,172 and $5.99) made for tourist with less than 48 hours in Dubai, I think it’s good value for money and metro is the best way to get around Dubai. Yay, I got my phone repaired and the technician refused payment, he said it’s a routine job, I thanked him profusely before exploring the Mall.
