I rarely respond to ignorant posts about NAF AND Accidents
The UK DEFENCE JOURNAL has just announced that the ultra modern 5th GEN F35B has just witnessed its first accident
the pilot ejected in SOUTH CAROLINA , USA no reports on his status. We pray for him him just like we pray for all NAF Pilots and we wait for a full investigation before we speculate ...... because it is the sensible thing to do. I love this boss tell them o! Bunch of illitrates!!!!

They're not going to be bombing Dresden dude.

You don't need 3.5tons payload to plink landcruisers. That's why the general trend in PGM's is that they're getting smaller. Mokopa only weighs in at about 50kg. If you need to drop tonnage your not going to call in these aircraft.

Paramount designed this aircraft from the ground up for that payload. They seem to be pretty competent in designing products for a particular sweet spot in the market and I'm sure they did their homework by talking to potential customers 1st.

If you look at bombed up tucanos etc. the loadout is pretty much the same. 2 PGM's and some Hydra's. The amount of hardpoints counts more than weight.
I agree about the Air Tractor being superior to both though. I would not want to be a bad guy driving around in a pickup with that thing overhead.

Whether Mwari will sell or not remains to be seen. What we do know is that they have launch customers and are going into production. They are also significantly cheaper than the competition.
The biggest problem with selling all 3 of these planes are the availability of the Pratt & Whitney PT-6. Nowadays you just can't predict who's going to be in the US congress 2-4 years down the line. The type of wars these aircraft tend to get involved in typically gets pretty "messy" by nature and it only takes a couple of members of congress to shut down your spares supply. It would be a valuable selling point to have an alternate engine option. Same goes for integrating a large variety of weapons. A open architecture and a mix of Turkish, Chinese, Russian,Israeli and SA systems would have you well covered.

Imo,what we ALL need is a new twin engine attack turbo. Remember the Pucara and OV 10? The latter especially should've been redesigned with todays tech but it wasn't to be. Tbh,their payloads were def on the low side with the former maxing out at 1.5 t and the latter at 2.0 t.

It was taken out of service just as a whole new menu of modern precision weapons and targeting systems were being developed, [b]many of which were perfectly suited for the OV-10 and its original vision.[

Ideally,DENEL or Paramount would buy the rights and licence build improved versions with bigger engines carrying at least 5 t of ordnance for below 12 mn$. IIRC,nemesis8u,had the idea of a similar platform armed solely with a centre mounted 180 degree movable heavy cannon,23 mm or even 30 mm able to shoot all angles, forward even backward, equipped with recoil dampeners.
To me it makes more sense than the Sara-but what do I know!

I'd go further and make a copy of the OV-10 with a bolt-on centre fuselage.
That way you can configure it for any possible mission by swapping it out.
UAV/UCAV, CION, air-air refueling, maritime, cargo etc.

It would certainly be a better seller than SARA

Here's a old vid of OV-10 with a trainable 20mm gatling gun.

At the time of the procurement in 2003, the Air Force was coming in from a state of camatose. Most of the officers had not flown in proper fighter jets in over 10 years since the Jags were abandoned due to sanctions.

I felt that the purchase of the F-7s made sense. Our MB-339s are stuck in Italy were they had been sent for upgrades. World Bank sanctions and those of our other creditors prevented us from purchasing Western aircrafts. We could also not buy from Russia as they couldn't provide financing.

The Chinese were the only logical choice, the F-7 was the only fighter we could get from them. Given our position, we really didn't have many choices, in fact we only had 1.

The Nigerian Air Force under the last 12 months has flown 30,000 combat hours. Yes, our Air Force is small, but the attrition rate is well below acceptable standards. We won't feel it if we had a larger Air Force.

The A-29 would be an important addition to the force, but with the loss of the F-7s, it means we would need the JF-17 as soon as we can.

LMFAO.....this guy. Ain't no shame in admiting those at the helm of affairs bleeped up. You need to stop making excuses for criminals.

I'd give you 10 likes! That's WTF I'm talking about for destroying BH/AS technicals and/or dismounts. Ofc,DENEL and Paramount see things clearer than we but imo this is way more sensible than the SARA. I see this potential platform massively dominating the COIN/Ground attack market.

Its 30,000 combat hours against a non state actor, against an enemy that can't shoot back. God help the NAF if We are confronted by another air force. The job of the NAF is to protect the nation's airspace and plan for unforseen contingencies. The Army bears the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency not the Air Force. There is no excuse, why is the Air Force competing with the Army for influence? The AF should stick to providing close air support for ground forces and focus on fleet recapitalization and air defense.

SORRY BRO., just don't want you to fall for the scam the AF brass are pulling. You would easily mistake the AF for the Army with the endless counter insurgency banter. Boko Haram is no match for the AF. No air cap, no credible air defense cap...how is Boko Haram a challenge? Sad truth is there are not enough platforms. All for geopolitical zones have security issues...The air force is stretched to breaking point.

Maintenance is also important, if every aspect of a machine isn't well maintained regularly, faults will happen.
Fact is, we don't know why ( If your claim is true) it didn't deploy

RIP. The fact that some eyewitnesses report that the parachute of one pilot did not open is horrific. Chinese engineering at its best, again!

The last of the FT-7NI two-seater is down now and it is known that this model is not in production anymore. This could mean the end to the F7 era in the NAF. The aqusition of the F7 was an unlucky decision by the NAF, we should have better invested in Trainer Aircraft with modern avionics like Hawk or L-159 and then move on to advanced Figher-Jets. Resulting in a dead-end-failture we might be pushed back to square-one again. At least the A-29 Tucanos are on the horizont for the NAF to provide a solid layer for flight-training and strike missions.

It's not a bad aircraft at all for border patrol, maritime patrol and COIN operations.

It's an Air Craft the Nigerian navy and Immigration should consider.

Why African countries should consider buying the South African-Made Mwari

POSTED BY: E LIONEL JUNE 28, 2017

A credible alternative to Western low-cost aircraft, it can fly for seven hours on internal fuel alone.

A plane built for Africa.
This beautiful but weird looking plane was designed and built by Paramount company and Boeing for the world market but primarily targeted for the African Market, it was developed to merge both the good attributes and features of a low-cost plane and a helicopter.

NAF REACTIVATES MORE PLATFORMS AS CAS INSPECTS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BREAKTHROUGHS, COMMISSIONS NEW PROJECTS IN PORT HARCOURT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the in-house reactivation of 2 more platforms to enhance its operational efficiency in the discharge of its constitutional roles. The reactivation, which would enable the Service save huge foreign exchange that would have been expended if carried out abroad, would also improve NAF’s operational capability. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, while assessing the progress of work on the Mi-35P and EC-135 helicopters at 115 Special Operations Group (115 SOG) Port Harcourt on 28 September 2018, stated that the aircraft would become serviceable and available before the end of the year, bringing to 15 the total number of aircraft that would have been reactivated within the last 3 years. It may be recalled that, just recently, the NAF re-inducted another Mi-35P helicopter into combat duties after undergoing a comprehensive in-country Life Extension Programme (LEP) at 115 SOG; the first time such a feat would be achieved for NAF Mi-series helicopters.

Air Marshal Abubakar, who also commissioned a new block of 30 single bedroom transit accommodation for airmen and airwomen as well as a remodelled and furnished block of Single Officers’ Quarters (SOQ), equally inspected Research and Development (R & D) projects executed by the Unit. These projects included the design and construction of a Cannon Loading Machine; Rocket Pod Testing Device as well as a Battery Cart and AC Generator Phasing Device for Mi-35P Helicopter Fleet. Others are the design and construction an Engine Stand and Ground Towing Equipment for the EC-135 Helicopter. Conducting the CAS and other dignitaries on a tour of the R&grin projects, the Commanding Officer 14 Logistics Wing (CO 14 Log Wg), Wing Commander Opeoluwa Ige, stated that the projects were embarked upon to provide innovative solutions to engineering problems in the unit. He pointed out that they had been executed by personnel of the unit, in collaboration with some local and foreign partners, at a fraction of the cost of purchasing same or similar equipment from abroad. Responding, the CAS commended the Commander 115 SOG, Air Commodore Elijah Ebiowe, and CO 14 Log Wg for their commitment and resourcefulness in executing so many R&grin projects, which would, no doubt, reduce turn round time for aircraft maintenance. He also congratulated the Commander for achieving 100 percent serviceability rate of operable aircraft in the unit, while also effectively supervising the reactivation work on the 2 NAF helicopters.

While commissioning the blocks of accommodation, the CAS stated that all actions taken in the Service were geared towards actualizing his vision for a highly professional and disciplined fighting force for the effective and efficient employment of Air Power in response to Nigeria's national security imperatives. This, he said, required the right structure and equipment as well as a well-trained and motivated workforce. He stated that achieving the right structure had necessitated the creation of 2 new commands – the Special Operations and Ground Training Commands. In terms of equipment disposition, the CAS disclosed that, with the support of the Federal Government, the NAF had acquired and inducted 18 brand new aircraft into the Service, while also reactivating 13 others that were previously unserviceable; bringing to 31 the total number of aircraft that had come into service in the last 3 years. Speaking further, the CAS noted that the NAF was also expecting the delivery of additional 6 brand new attack helicopters procured from Italy along with the 12 Super Tucano aircraft expected from the United States of America, which would significantly boost NAF’s aircraft holding by the end of 2020. He noted that such unprecedented acquisition of aircraft was last witnessed in the early 80s. He therefore thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the National Assembly for their continued support to the Service.

Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the NAF was doing its utmost to ensure high level of motivation among its personnel. Apart from providing conducive work and residential environments and ensuring prompt payment of allowances, the Service had, in the last 3 years, provided new hospitals and upgraded existing ones in NAF units across the country while also establishing new schools and expanding existing ones to ensure favourable home front for personnel while fighting in the various theatres. In this regard, he announced that the conversion of the Air Force Secondary School Port Harcourt into a boarding school would soon commence. The CAS also highlighted that, in line with his capacity building initiatives, the Service had embarked on massive training in all NAF specialties. For instance, the NAF had produced 90 pilots in the last 3 years and had trained many personnel in various fields of information communication technology and engineering, both locally and abroad. “Only recently in Lagos, we established a Forensic Crime Laboratory at the 057 Provost Investigation Group. We have also trained 32 personnel in modern investigative techniques while 140 Air Provost personnel are undergoing special operations training to join our recently established Quick Response Groups and Wings”, Air Marshal Abubakar said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Tactical Air Command (TAC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Oladayo Amao, who was represented by the Chief of Staff Headquarters TAC, AVM Idi Lubo, appreciated the CAS for providing human and material resources to accomplish the laudable projects. “These projects in 115 SOG are not in isolation as they are reflective of the CAS’ effort to provide sufficient accommodation for the ever-growing number of NAF personnel in various bases across the country”, he said.
