Unless you get a permanent resident card of whatever nation you choose before leaving Nigeria, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT. You will regret it. Stay in Nigeria. Out of the people that did what you are proposing only a select few made it/ended up being up. Some people can no longer see their families because either the husband was refused a visa to come back in or deported. You do not want to be an Illegal in any country. I repeat, FORGET IT. Only do it if you have permanent residency of that county/Immigrant visa before leaving Nigeria. You have been warned. There are Nigerian families that are homeless in various countries all over.

Did you not see the recent videos of families leaving the U.S, crossing over to Canada? Do not attempt it. Enjoy what you have in Nigeria. In Nigeria, you have family and friends that will take you in when katakata bursts. Abroad, you will be rendered homeless in less than 24 hours because everyone minds their own wahala.

THANK YOU. I'm not against migration. Just do it the proper way. The problem is a lot of our people do not have the means to come here legally.

I am a 47 year old Nigerian with a 43 year old wife. Married 13 years. Three kids; 12, 9 and 6.

I have a degree in humanities while she has a HND in Admin.

We are both involved in hustling in Lagos, Nigeria. The hustle hasn't paid off big time yet but we get by with about 3- 5 Mill earnings annually. We used to do much more than that until 3 years ago.

I have had significant international exposure having lived in UK as a child and also bisited all continents in the last 5 years.

If reaching and beating Dangote and Adenuga's wealth is your aim,you better stay back here in Nigeria and continue managing what you have and be thinking of how you can make more.
if living a convenient life and plotting same for your children is your aim,you can move to any of these countries you have in mind.
Living abroad does NOT BRING YOU FORTUNE except you are a rare PROFESSIONAL,going by what you have laid out here don't waste your time, money and effort in relocating it doesn't worth it.

I need very mature advice and inputs as regards a situation I am trying to resolve.

Just this afternoon I made a decision to throw it open on Nairaland Travel section. I am sure the mature contibutions that flow forth here will help me to a large extent to take a final decision on which direction the pendulum swings.

Please note that my wife is indifferent as per where we are. She just wants us to be together peacefully. She is also not a very ambitious person inthe ense thay she does not really aspire to be Folorunsho Alakija or Dangote's wife. She is very satisfied with being an average, comfortable upper middle class citizen anywhere in the world provided there is peace.

I am the money man with a lot of ambition and an undying aspiration to beat (or at least compete favourably with Aliko Dangote.
if you have the means,it is quite ok. If efforts put in here in Nigeria is done in places like Canada , UK America etc it etc will yeild far fetched results. However no matter how comfortable one may be abroad try not to forget Nigeria. Uay put up some structrure in a good area and come for vacation once a year or there about. He is home

The BLACK AMERICANS don’t like to work.
Especially the Ladies. So knowing how powerful they are and you being interested in Green Card, they will lure you to marry them or sleep with them.
After which, the gates of HELL will be let loose.
In AMERICA when such happens, the Father of the child will always send cash to the MUM for the up keep of that child until the child is 18 years old.
From this U keep, the Black American Mum can decide to take care of herself while you work your life out.
So, imagine having 3 kids with such a lady..

At 47 to be honest with you immigration will be challenging and to get a job as well. Your experience and degree will mean naught there. But I dont think its fair to put your entire family under that kind of risk. Its too big a risk to take. Why not sponsor your children to school there and possibly PR after for them if you want a "better" future for them. You will blow through 7 million in one year in Canada with your entire family if you dont get a job. Nobody will tell you then if you have to do menial job or not. Everything is a risk. Some people get lucky and get a job right away . But we must also remember that some people do not. If you were 30 now and single then I can advice you to go there and hustle and see how things are looking after 5 yrs. But with so many dependents, even getting enuff points under express entry will be super difficult also considering your age. But all in all I wont ever advice anyone not doing too bad in Nigeria and with wife and children to come here except they are ready to do menial job if things dont go as they planned to support their family. And please for God's sake, if you do decide to come, please dont come on a visiting visa. PR or Greencard(however you wanna get that) or nothing. My 2 cents.

Lol, you think its that easy. You have no idea what you are talking about. I'm a registered nurse. There are no master speciality courses like ICU. ICU is intensive care unit, thats a hospital unit. Tell me why an organization would file for here, which includes them spending more money and time to file for her. When there are many American born and foreigners with their papers trained in this country who are ready to work. Not saying that job sponsorship does not happen theses, but its mostly for people with extraordinary talents not for basic skills that can be acquired locally.
You are a registered nurse but u don't know more about your field.

You better wake up.

Many organizations are doing it.

The most sought after nursing specialties are:

ICU
Anaesthetic
Cardiology

And if you have any of them, then your future as a nurse is bright.

Honest answer. Relocate with your entire family.
Nigeria is a terrible place to raise kids with the deteriorating moral and socio-economic conditions.

Countries you should look into:

1. Sweden - low crime, good healthcare
2. Netherlands - Multi cultural society
3. Canada - all the good reasons
4. Switzerland - low crime, thriving economy, multicultural society

Pls consult your wife. Nigeria is a NO-NO!

As someone that have lived in Sweden and currently living in the Netherlands, there is practically no way you can migrate with your family to an EU country unless you have their citizenship. Regulations regarding migration to EU countries are regulated by the European union, and each countries as a rule, transpose EU directives into their national legislation. I cant think of any provisions in EU legislations that permit migration.

If he was young and single, then option abounds. As one grow older, it becomes difficult to immigrate as all the route that people usually uses to migrate becomes obsolete (student, work permit, marriage).

If you are rich and can register a LLC in EU countries like Hungary or Lithuania, you can be granted a residence permit for you and your family and potentially becomes citizens in 5 years.

I'm interested in relocating to Canada. I don't have much of a job experience, I've always done diffident businesses over the years.

However I have a brother that's a professor in University of Western Ontario. In what way can this be an advantage.

I should ask my brother, but he's practically like to white guy now (left immediately after secondary school) and has no idea about such things. He merely tells me to go find out myself.

Can one get one work permit visa to Canada.

A little background to aid your objectivity.....

The first question is: can you support your family of 5 with your degrees abroad? Typically, to get a well-paying job, you will need to "re-qualify" by attending schools abroad. Until then you will need to hustle. Also keep in mind that humanities don't pay that well - even for Americans, so you'll be at a disadvantage. Be realistic and do research on salaries that people are earning, based on their degrees. This is not hard to come by: indeed.com is very useful.

2. Is it possible to grow what ever you're doing so you can double your income to 6-10mil/year from 3-5? With the money you will need to relocate 5 people (plane tickets, 6-12 months living expenses while you're looking for work, etc), you can vastly improve your business instead of subjecting your family to a difficult move and strenuous move with no guarantee that you'll net positive for several years.

3. Your oldest is 12. I think it's much better for children to receive Nigerian education until they are ready for University. That's when educating them abroad has the best value for the money. That means you have 6 years of continuing to grow your business/hustle. They will have Nigerian values and work ethic, then take that attitude and excel. It's rare that children brought up abroad from childhood become as driven or as successful as their parents.

4. At then end of the day, you actually have a higher chance of making it big in Nigeria, than if you move abroad at this stage of your life. You have a support system here, which you won't have when you move. We all know many Nigerians who can vacation to UK, US, Dubai several times a year, travel to bear their children abroad, pay for schools abroad, and buy property abroad... all with cash. On the other hand, I can't think of too many Nigerian-Americans who can boast of owning their home without loan, or who can afford the cost of childbirth without insurance or that can even travel more than once a year.

I will be very honest with you since you want an honest suggestion and I'll be using my location as example. If you move with your family to the States without any of you having green card or citizenship, read my lips, you'll suffer and most likely will regret it. This your peaceful family will experience a serious crack and trust me, women aren't built to endure too much suffering so your wife may throw in the towel along the line . If you're coming to hustle, come here as a single man, hustle and go get your family though it will take time but that's the best way.
Gospel truth said herein. This soo called tight family will experience a crack once the wife is through with her nursing programm and gets certified.Trust American women, they will now teach the wife the American way of life.
For me, you can try Canada, OR at your age and the comfort you have, with the income both of you get, my advise is for you to hang in Nigeria or still, travel alone first.

I was having a discussion with my Tanzanian colleague the other day about Africans migrating to Europe and North America. We both appreciate the good sides of living in Europe and North America, but we made these observations.

1. You are never good enough in the eyes of many white people. They hardly respect you if you are made their boss and you are a black man or black woman.

2. You will pay bills till you grow into your late 60's and 70's and if you default on your Mortgage, your house will be taken from you, irrespective of the monies you have paid earlier on.

3. You will pay water bills for life in Europe and USA, Canada etc but if you dig your own borehole in Nigeria, the water is yours and you don't have to pay for it.

4. Your kids don't belong to you in the white man's countries. They belong to the Government. You can't punish your kids anyhow for any offences they might have committed. The Police will come banging on your door if you do that sad sad sad sad sad.

5. Nigerian women change into Monsters as soon as they enter Canada, USA, UK etc with you. They start claiming equal rights with you after some Months and you will soon see their true character smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley smiley.

6. Many Africans focus on white collar jobs in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia etc while being blind to the opportunities that lie in jobs they consider as being dirty or beneath their status. My Tanzanian friend wondered why many Africans are not looking into being tradesmen like Carpenters, Painters, Plumbers. Gas Engineers, Cleaning Business Owners etc in the white man's countries. He noted that these 'dirty' industries are gold mines.

7. Black People are the targets of immigration policies in the white man's land.

8. Racism is ingrained in the white man's blood. He might like you but he still believes you are inferior to him. And he will let you know this in different ways.

9. Even though they live in advanced nations, Africans still long for their countries of Origin and follow events in their native countries everyday.

10. Lastly, we both agreed that in the long run, Africans should man up and fix their Continent. Cheers.

Lol your naive and ignorant. Go look up the definition of racism. What going in Nigerian is totally different from what going on in the Us or Canada. I don't have to talk too much , just google it yourself.

Racism and tribalism are related. In the one you are prejudiced because of your race while in the other because of your tribe. At the end of the day, the content of the treatment is almost the same.
