No one is being narrow minded, one should be simply realistic. There is huge stigma and stereotype of Nigerians being fraudulent abroad.

Yes Nigerians are know for scams, there is even a scam named after Nigeria. HOWEVER, Nigerians are known more for being educated, hardworking and successful immigrants. A report just came out where Nigerians are the most educated people in the US, more than whites and Asians. They are also the most successful immigrants.

The mistake folks make is whipping out their calculators to punch in numbers using the exchange rate. Consider this, a rent for 1-2 bdr in a decent area per month is about $1400. That is about N500k that you can use to rent a 1-2bdr flat per year in a decent place in Nigeria.

Thats what I'm trying to say. inflation is not helping matters as well.

Do you know the meaning of dynasty?!! Means generational wealth, the money is long!!! Do you think corruption just started? Some made their money from corrupt political connections since the first republic! The very FEW that made it legally made it at the time when Nigeria was still a stable country in the 50s/ 60s.

If you can’t be a millionaire in the US @ 47 you DEFINITELY can not be one in Nigeria. There is nothing in that country for young smart people. That’s why our doctors never come back ( some Nigerian doctors here are millionaires in dollars) see that Nigerian doctor that was played by Will Smith that discovered CTE with his thick Igbo accent he has earned respect of his peers and become successful in his field.
is 47 young? any smart individual can make it anywhere with the right mindset. Who starts a generational wealth? someone does Thomas Edison the founder of General Electric is a human being that did not have a history of wealth, same with the chase family, the Rockefeller, although bill and Mark are Havard dropouts, they have wealth that will spur generations to come just by coming innovative with their solutions to problems. Who are the parents of Shola of paystack? I am not sure I know them but those guys in paystack are a motivation for many today. If you cannot be a millionaire in Nigeria at 47, you can't be one in the US. A lizard cannot be a crocodile in the US. you obviously have a lazy mind. did the Nigerian doctor you mentioned school in Nigeria? just like you guys started claiming the robotics engineer like the knowledge was from Nigeria.

Thank you, I'm asking him to name popular Nigerian millionaires in America. He makes sound so easy, if it was that easy then should be many of them here.

I named one Kase Lukman. Why are you lazy? Go and google you will see some names. Also, most millionaires don’t flaunt their wealth! Especially the ones that worked for it not yahoo yahoo boys. They stay classy in their wealth.

Thanks!

Canada is a top choice but I only have issues with the extreme climate/weather. However I am studying widely just to see if some provinces can be better than others in this regard.

The healthcare advantage is a major plus for me.

The free education too is very good. The environment is quite friendly and the air is so clean and oure it is unimaginable.

My problem is whether I can cope with a menial job at my age. T is likely that I will be nudging 50 when we decide to leave. That is no longer young. It is entry level Agbalagba.

How do you plan on getting an immigrant visa?

Your skills and qualifications are not top tier enough to guarantee residency.

In this era of Trump and difficulty in getting Canadian visa, how do you hope to transplant your entire family?

Best you try Germany, they're looking for lower skilled workers. But then the general sentiments in Germany is also anti immigrant, as is most of Europe.

Your 10m, should you be able to secure a visa, won't last more than the blink of an eye, before you secure a job.

In any case, best of luck.

Again, critical thinking is key. Nobody is saying that one can not be successful is America. I'm not lazy, I did google and nothing really tangible really came up . I'm That person you mentioned is apparently the richest black man in Texas. Again, if it was that easily, there should many more Kase Lukman Lawal in America. Bill gates does not flaunt his wealth but we know his rich based on the success of his business.

Ok this will be last response on this thread cos obviously you are NOT listening. You say Thomas Edison, at least we know of his invention. I am TELLING you that this children of the wealthy in Nigeria, their parents started off with corrupt political connections and they kept it for generations and line up juicy positions and contracts for their children. Ask yourself, international dynasty, Hilton even TRUMP we can trace back how the founder made their wealth.

Anyways my point is, if you are going to make it anywhere in the world, LEGALLY there is is higher chance you will make in a Western country. Doesn’t mean people don’t make it in Nigeria or people don’t fail in America. If you want to make it @ 47 you will have a better chance in a stable country. So you can count all the successful Nigerian you know, but for every 1 that made it in Nigeria, there are 10 that made in in America.

The big question is;

Should I relocate the entire family .....or should I relocate wife and kids only while I remain here and continue the hustle?

This is the best advice for you. I'm thinking in that line too, still crossing my T's and dotting my I's.

3 of my friends are already in Canada enjoying life

Now the topic has shifted. We were talking about millionaires and billionaires. One does not need to be a millionaire or billionaire to be successful. Again we were talking about the number of Nigerian millionaire and Billionaire in America.

Thanks Laird. I could start with some not so odd job just as a sacrifice and to use the time to study the busines environment. I am sure that I should be able to invest in some business within one year of being there. I also intend to keep my business running here and hope to visit at least every quarter

Even if I could afford it I really wouldnt subscribe to going back to university to learn in order to get a job. My wife had been interested in healthcare especially nursing. She would say yes at the slightest opportunity.

Your last statement is quite pregnant and most attractive. Its a viable option. Only snag being that I love seeing my kids everyday. At least let me have my fill of them while I can. Staying withput seeing them for long periods will be quite the torment.

You won't get citizenship if you do the bolded. You need to stay 10 years or so in Canada without travelling

Us is not an option for the OP unless he has immediate relative sponsorship. Other categories of family sponsorship would take too long at his age.

In order to apply for Canadian citizenship you must:

Provide proof that you know how to speak and write in 1 of Canada's official languages (either English or French)
Be a Permanent Resident (PR)
Have lived in Canada as a PR for at least 1,095 days out of the 5 years before you apply
Have filed your taxes for at least 3 years during the last 5 years and any income tax you may owe must be paid

Not necessarily. You can become a dollar millionaire in US just by going to school, getting a high-paying job, and saving enough. Not possible in Nigeria. Likewise u can become a millionaire in Nigeria by hustling and cutting corners - not likely in US because sooner or later you'd get caught and pay dearly.

Actually most Nigerian billionaires emigrated, they have homes abroad that they spend more time in than Nigeria!
Dangote and Otedola are not in Nigeria 60% of the time!
They did not emigrate to become billionaires, you can only be a billionaire in Nigeria not in any white man country.

Bros it’s very risky to raise a child in the USA I no go lie you . The best is give birth to them here , when they are teenagers you can move them to naija make dem suffer small & get sense , then after secondary school move them to USA back . Most kids here fall out of track in High school, and what your child will become in future will always been known when he or she is in high school

You are absolutely right.

My wife and I made this decision to bring each of our kids back to Nigeria after their middle school, after we noticed the deteriorating behavior and academics in our first child.

This same child now attend a top 10 liberal arts college in the US (2nd year), while her middle school friends are barely cutting it in community colleges or became dropouts. And yes, she did take SSCE and applied from Nigeria, but as a US citizen.

Entitlement mentality and peer influence are damaging kids' future in the US.

If you want to be a Dangote Nigeria is where you need to be, forget about being a Dangote in any white man country. They barely want you there talkless of empowering you to a Dangote level.

Has nothing to do with empowering u. It has to do with the fact that it is very hard to cut corners and bend rules without serious consequences - things Dangote did and still doing.

Please, people provide numbers to support your claims. Again, names jobs that allow you to become millionaire. Also google the average saving account in America. For example, if you want to name medical doctor. Google the average student loan debt the that the medical doctor acquires to study in the United States. Then google the average income for a new resident doctor and his potential earning when he/she finishes residency.

My dear. The question is, do you have residence permit to emigrate? If not, my advice is, stay where you are. Continue hustling and go on holidays abroad.

The worst thing that will happen to a person is to live abroad illegally.

You will be doing hide and seek, looking for someone to get paper from, to work with. What of medical?

With what you and your wife are earning, you are better off than going to suffer with your family.
If you can emigrate legally abroad, fine.
I wish you the best of luck

A lot of lies are being spread on this site.

To the op, below are direct link from the US and Canada immigration sites. Both summarize ways to get permanent residency. Go through each one and see which option you qualify for.

Comprehend what is written before making a reply. I said she should learn a skill that will enable her provide a service before she ever gets work permit.

You are one of those that believe that job is the only way to earn money. Limited in thinking. The informal sector in every country is huge.

When the wife gets there she can claim asylum, if they didn't come though skilled workers programme.

She needs at least 1 year to get settled anywhere they go. Yep. Did you just say that as soon as she lands, she will start earning once she hits the ground? The job is waiting for her at the airport. SMH. What will be her immigration status (the most important)? What have you been drinking? I wish it is that easy.

Let's assume he pulls N4m. That's about Canadian $14,000 . This is not even enough to cover rent for a year.
