Ndiigbo must learn to stop being Igbo. That's the only way you are going to please our detractors, if that's what you want. And even that wouldn't be good enough, seeing how they easily fished out Odili as Igbo, when the time was right.

"Let it be known that the original sin of the Igbo has not changed and will never change - it is the sin of being Igbo. It is from it that all other sins emerge and get magnified. The Igbo have nothing to prove and must not begin a defense of that right or a discussion of their Igboness on the terms of others. It is a matter of expediency for the Igbo to know this and for the Igbo to understand its implication in their final battle for survival".

This is the sin of the Igbo man. Being Igbo. This is why those who wish to partake in this sin, rushes first to denounce their Igbo identity.

This is an excerpt from an article by Thomas Sowell (my favourite economist).

“About 20 years ago, an official of a Jewish organization asked me what Jews could do to reduce the hostility that others felt toward them. The only advice I could offer him was one word: Fail. As long as Jews are successful, they will be resented.

This is not peculiar to Jews, by any means. Around the world and down through history, high-achieving groups have been resented. These resentments have been expressed in both words and deeds, including wholesale expulsions and mass slaughters.

In Nigeria in 1966, an enterprising tribe called the Ibo were killed by the tens of thousands by mobs of people who lacked the skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurship that the Ibo had acquired. Ironically, the Ibo originated in one of the more backward parts of the country but seized upon opportunities that opened up when Western education became available during the colonial era.

Much the same story could be told thousands of miles away, in the island nation of Sri Lanka. Here the Tamil minority lived on the less fertile tip of the island off the east coast of India. When American missionaries opened schools there, the Tamils seized the opportunity to get ahead through education.

By the 1920s, there were more Tamil lawyers and doctors than there were lawyers and doctors from the Sinhalese majority. In the early 1970s, more than half the students who received a grade of "A" on the university entrance examinations were from the Tamil minority. Tamils were hated, and that hatred has fueled atrocities against them during the civil war that has since racked the country.

Similar stories could be told of the Japanese in Peru, the Germans in Russia, the Chinese in Southeast Asia, the Huguenots in France, Indians in East Africa and Koreans in today's black ghettos in the United States.

One of the sad but inescapable conclusions from the 14 years of research behind my recently published book, "Migrations and Cultures," is that achievement does not bring popularity but hatred - if not worse.

Economic achievements usually benefit not only the groups responsible for them but others who are able to get new products or services that were unavailable before. Everything from retail stores to modern medicine and scientific advances have been provided by high-achieving groups to people who developed only anger and belligerence in return. …”

This is basic human nature.

Nope. Those are excuses used to justify the original sin, which is "being Igbo".

Are the Yorubas subtle? They live flamboyant lifestyle, throw Owambe up and down, wear the best clothes even with empty bank accounts. They are loudmouthed and boastful too. They tell whoever that care to listen How they are the most sophisticated group in Nigeria, how they lead in Education, entertainment, etc. How they produced many firsts in Nigeria, how they built first TV station, first tallest building, etc. I have heard it all from them.
It was on this forum we were all told and insulted on daily basis about how the entire Osun IGR is supposedly bigger than those of the entire SE, until the recession came, and they couldn't pay salaries, only then did the loud mouthed ones crawl into their caves.

What about the Hausa-Fulani. They threatened fire and brimstone, should power not return to the North. On daily basis, they made inflammatory statements.
They told their Yoruba partners how they should forget Kwara, should they attempt to go for independence from Nigeria, they went to news media and told the Yorubas How they conquered and converted their pagan clans to Muslims in Ilorin and continue to rule Ilorin today, how is that for subtlety?
Buhari threatened baboon and Monkey getting soaked in blood should he lose the election in 2011,how is that for subtlety?
The current emir of Kano, had the temerity to openly tell the Yorubas that they are the trouble with Nigeria. How is that for subtlety? Yorubas didn't do anything about it. Imaginre if it were Ndiigbo that made that statement, what the rest of Nigerians would say.

None of those groups are subtle, don't let them "psycho bully" you into accepting that Ndiigbo are overdoing things more than they themselves are.
don't them. They see us as defeated people and ave the right to do anything they want.. If itx an igbo man. They will carry it for head. This is what is happening in South south they rather blame igbo than blame those who is reaping them of their oil

The scapegoating of the Jews, especially in difficult economic and political times, is not a cause but rather an excuse. To scapegoat, you must first of all hate. Hitler conveniently used Jews as scapegoat because the hatred was already there. It made it easy for Germans to believe that Jews were the reason they lost World War I and why the German economy was fluttering. The fifth reason, that the Jews killed Jesus, falls flat when the Christian Bible says that the Romans killed Jesus with the help of Jews but the hatred was reserved for Jews alone. The Roman Catholic Church, in its Second Vatican Council in 1963, had to officially exonerate the Jews, but the hatred continued.
The idea that the Jews were outsiders should have waned with the increase in Jewish assimilation over the years. But it didn’t. Instead, the complaint changed. In Germany, it turned into: "We hate you, not because you're different, but because you're trying to become like us! We cannot allow you to infect the Aryan race with your inferior genes."
The final reason is that “we hate the Jews because they are an inferior race.” The Jews are not a race, to begin with.
This is how Rabbi Kalman Packouz put the dilemma of the Jews. “Every other hated group is hated for a relatively defined reason,” he wrote. “We Jews, however, are hated in paradoxes: Jews are hated for being a lazy and inferior race - but also for dominating the economy and taking over the world. We are hated for stubbornly maintaining our separateness - and, when we do assimilate - for posing a threat to racial purity through intermarriages. We are seen as pacifists and as warmongers; as capitalist exploiters and as revolutionary communists; possessed of a Chosen-People mentality, as well as of an inferiority complex. It seems that we just can't win.”

Bros this is similar to what was written by scholars, about target groups. The igbos too are a target group hence, it was easy for the north to use the coup as an excuse to exterminate the igbos.

As much as I understand @bebe2u's point as regarding ironsi and ojukwu's management of the crisis leading to the civil war, I still disagree with him because, had ironsi handed Nzeogwu to the north, it won't still please them. We all remember that igbos have been massacred in the north as far back as 1945 and 1953

So who do you blame? You gave your enemy enough justifiable reason to finish you. Should you not blame yourself? Ironsi should have executed the coupists not necessarily to please the North but strengthen his own grip of power, he should have imprisoned celestine ukwu (remember he is from my state). He should have also executed the northern coup plotters and it will be justifiable. And he should have conducted election as fast as possible

Nigeria does not want "igbo presidency", "hausa presidency", "yoruba presidency" etc. If igbos want to be president they should stop using that word because other tribes don't use it.

Igbos - our overconfidence in ourselves has made us loud and predictable. We need to go stealth if we must progress in an igbophobic society.

Yes, we are unapologetically human, but we must not rationalize our shortcomings. China Achebe in his last memoir, "there was a country" was displeased by the "showiness", "arrogance" and "noisiness" of the Igbo man. It has to at least be subdued if not stopped.

Ironsi set up a tribunal to prosecute the coup plotters after he must have concluded his peace tour. His nationwide tour to placate every region starting with the western region where he met fajuyi. The counter coup didn't allow his plans to see fruition.

The north was grievous because they had lost grip of the centre, not necessarily because the sardauna or maimalari was assassinated.

Its not about the achievements. Its the unwarranted noise and drama we make about it, knowing fully well that we are in an igbophobic society.

Israel makes no noise about their achievement unless they are being challenged by their neighbours. Same with UAE, Germany, Singapore.
