Principal = 10 million
Rate = 13%
Time = 1 year

Simple Interest = 1.3 million

Your total money at the end = 10 million + 1.3 million

2. FirstBank probably got the difference between what I got and what you were told: of what use is that to me, I cannot spend or invest that.

Go and get your certificate, remember that deductions are made. I asked earlier if deductions are done based on capital or interest. I got 13.1% for 364 days

Certificate to me is important for those that want to use it for collateral when getting a loan. Co that's what the bank will want u to present if u want to use ur tb certificate as collateral.

Most important is the date of maturity, security of your investment, rate and charges deducted and also loan and visa applications.

I can't speak for StanBic cause I've never done Treasury Bills with them. I do mine with GTB. How I do tbs is, I send a very short letter to my account manager, addressing it to GTB but authorizing my account manager to debit my account the amount I want. I do this the Monday before the bid (primary market). That's all. Just remember to state the tenor you want. If you don't the bank would go with the default tenor of 91 days. It happened to me last month.

Embassies required your financial independence to allow you go over hence the request for your bank statement, TBills certificate is a proof that you have funds in Nigeria you wouldn't abscond and abandon, also you can pay your bills while abroad.

That's true. But I guess that's why there arw limited instructions you can give via email, and its basically those that can't be done through the more secure online banking. For instance GTB will never honor an email request for funds transfer.

By now, rates for treasury bills should be above 13.5% particularly for 364days where it has peached for some time now, no thanks to the Banks(PDMM), who has in recent times bided low for fear of losing their bids.

It seems to me that CBN is using the two Tb’s market to play down the rates; they in recent times use the Primary market to beat down the rate observing the liquidity levels, then come in through the OMO (Secondary market) to mop up the excess liquidity at their idea rates which must have being their CAP.

All in all it is the banks(PDMM’s) that can help to force them to push up this rates if they drastically reduce their demands.

@bolded totally agree. My bank gave me 12.9% for 365 which I considered low. But I know they lost their last bid so were playing safe.

However to your last paragraph, I'm not sure banks have a say here. The money is not thiers so theyre carrying out the wishes of thier clients. If anything, its we (the investors) that can bid up the rates if all decide move away from TBs

Yes. But on 3 October. The following day 4 October was when accounts were debited. I was debited by Stanbic on 4 October (364 day tenor at 13.1%). Maybe UBA's bid for the tenor you requested was not successful

Otherwise Minimum of 100k in most banks, then go with bank's rate.
