FG sets deadline for teachers to acquire professional licence By News Express on 05/10/2018 Share on Tweet in Share Views: 184 •Anthony Anwukah, the Minister of State for Education Prof. Anthony Anwukah, the Minister of State for Education, says the deadline for teachers to acquire their professional license is December, 2019. Anwukah made this known at a news conference to mark the 2018 World Teachers’ Day in Abuja on Thursday. According to the minister, the license can be obtained from the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He said that attainment of a global competitive and quality education was through teachers’ adherence to professionalism. He stressed the need for every teacher to register and obtain a professional license, saying improving teachers’ quality was necessary through professsionalisation. The minister of state said that there was the urgent need to address the challenges confronting education as a matter of concern to the federal ministry of education. He identified funding as a major problem facing the education sector, saying it had been hindering critical needs of the sector. Anwukah further emphasised that the teaching profession had been neglected by many Nigerians due partly to unattractive remuneration teachers. The minister of state made a reference to Malaysia where the teachers received the highest salary unlike in Nigeria where teachers were poorly paid. He, however, said that the ministry had made efforts to curb some of the challenges by allocating funds for Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme through Universal Basic Education Commission. |

chrissoki:He tried all he could but his effort was not enough to delivered Aminu Tambuwal, all the Rivers state delegates gave Tambuwal their 100% vote. Every disappointment is an appointment, and good one is a blessing. What happen next since our dear governor failed to succeed with his preferable candidate? Now he need to turn to us the civil servants, has it been that his candidate won, he will give him 100% support and finance he needed, but Atiku has all it take to campaign and fight the incumbent president. Alh Atiku will be having some misfeeling towards our governor due to failure to support him on his emerged as PDP flag bearer. Gov Wike have to work hard to win his second term governorship bid, because if he fail Alh Atiku might not work for his return through supreme court, or even giving him ministerial appointment. All our governor needed now is us the civil servants, and for he to earn our support 1. He must give us promotion and implement it before the general election 2. Pay our 2016 February and March arrears salary 3. Pay our remaining 2013 arrear salary 4. Implement the new minimum wage once approved 5. Give us interest free loan he promise. 6. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2018/10/08/report-on-new-minimum-wage-ready-says-nlc/ BreakingNigeria Report on New Minimum Wage Ready, Says NLC October 8, 2018 5:33 pm By Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said that the report on a new minimum wage will be submitted to the Federal Government next week. Labour said the Tripartite Committee negotiating a new minimum wage, which met for two days last week, had completed its assignment and would be submitting its report to President Muhammadu Buhari. The President of NLC Comrade Ayuba Wabba who disclosed this in Abuja, said the committee used the two-day meeting to deliberate on a minimum wage template that will be acceptable to all employers of labour in the country. He also said that the organised Labour would fix a date for a national rally against states that are owing salaries of workers. “I want to assure workers that all has been concluded and will be passed for signing within the week. We would also set aside a date for rally against state governors who don’t pay salaries regularly,” he said. Ayuba commended the Organised Private Sector, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA) for their resolve to pay the new minimum wage when it is signed into law. On what was agreed as the figure for the new minimum wage, the NLC president said the new figure would be announced by the president after studying the report. According to Ayuba, the presidency would make it public after deliberation by the National Economic Council meeting. Members of the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the United Labour Congress (ULC), had on September 30, suspended its warning strike to participate in the resumed tripartite negotiations. Labour is demanding N65,500 as new minimum wage for workers, while the private employers and some state governors proposed N25,000. Meanwhile, NLC Monday led its members to distrupt business activities at the Bolton White Hotels, in Area 11, following the company’s refusal to allow staff members to belong to a union of their choice. The workers who arrived the hotel premises as early as 8am, closed both the entrance and exit gates, preventing customers from coming and going out of the hotel. NLC alleged that for a decade now the movement had been engaging the management of the hotel on the need to allow it’s workers unionise, but that it had refused, forcing workers to work as slaves without a working condition. NLC president Comrade Wabba who led the workers also said there were allegations of sexual harrasment and victimisation of workers. Wabba said the picketing of Bolton White was made to coincide with the celebration of World Day for Decent Works, adding that workers of the hotel has been facing exploitation. “October 7th of each years has been set aside as the World Day for Decent Work. And this to advance decent work agenda and ensure that we say no to exploitation, say no to poverty, say no to slave wage. “We are using Bolton White to announce to others who are refusing unionisation that we are going to visit them and insist that Nigerian workers are not slaves, but partner in progress,” he said. The workers were seen carrying placards with incripritions as “workers’ right to belong to union is a constitutional right, respect it,” “Workers are not production tools, change the rules” among others. |

On what was agreed as the figure for the new minimum wage, the NLC president said the new figure would be announced by the president after studying the report. It's a wake up call, the battle line has been draw. On what was agreed as the figure for the new minimum wage, from my own side of guessing, it should be between #30,000 to #40,000. Since Federal government pay N- Power #30,000 they might consolidate it around that amount or little above it. |

Any idea on how to calculate the increment on the new minimum wage as we expect it soonest? |
Re: Rivers State Teachers Recruitment 2012 by Iniobon(m): 11:34am On Oct 09, 2018 |
hail:It's simple. just the new minimum wage divide by the old minimum wage ( #18,000), whatever you get, multiply that by your present salary. For instance, if the new minimum wage is #54,000 and your present salary is #60,000. then New salary will be (54,000/18,000) x #60,000 = 3 x #60,000 = #180,000 2 Likes |
Re: Rivers State Teachers Recruitment 2012 by Juenwume: 12:54pm On Oct 09, 2018 |
Iniobon:It doesn't follow that mathematical proportion. The increase only affects the basic salary and not your net salary. The 60k in your example is a composite figure comprising basic salary, allowances, etc. A 65k earner's basic salary is around 25k. So your calculation will only affect 25k So that your net pay amounts to ((54000/18000)×25000)+40000=115,000 for an initial salary of 65k. 4 Likes |

If the new minimum wage is #25,000 those at level 8 step 3 has their basic at 24,286.49. The calculation will go this way. New #25,000 - Old #18,000 = #7000 Therefore 18,000 x 39% ÷ 100% =#7,020 (18,000 + 7000 = 25,000) Level 8/3 basic 24286.49 x 39% ÷ 100% = 9,471.7311 (61,823.47 after pension/ others deduction + 9,471.7311 =71,295.2011) Addition of approximately 9,472 only at 25,000. Their new will be approximately 71,295 If it's #30,000 minimum wage 30,000 - 18000 = 12,000 Therefore 18,000 x 67 ÷ 100 = 12,060 Level 8/3 basic 24,286.49 x 67 ÷ 100 = 16,271.9483 (61,823.47 +16,271.9483 = 78,095) Addition of approximately 16,272. Their new will be approximately 78,000 And so other levels. At 25,000 = 39% At 30,000 = 67% 4 Likes |

Juenwume: That's perfect At 25,000 or 30,000 minimum wage Level 8/3 after pension/ other deduction total 61,823.47 ( basic 24,286.49) Therefore 61,823.47 - 24,286.49 = 37,536.98. @25,000 25,000/18000 x 24,286.49 + 37,536.98 = 71,268.2161 @ 30,000 30,000/18000 x 24,286.49 + 37536.98 = 78,014.4633 At 25,000 = 39% approximately At 30,000 = 67% approximately 1 Like |

Pay our salary arrears, teachers beg Rivers govt By [ Vanguard ] By Davies Iheamnachor Primary and secondary school teachers in Rivers State have pleaded with the state government to pay the salary arrears of its members. Classroom The Rivers State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, also urged the state government to fulfill its promises to teachers. In a 10-point demand read by its state chairman, Mr. Nkpogene Lucky, in Port Harcourt, the union said they were mild in approaching the issues that concerned their welfare. The statement reads: “Let me say it loud that the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Rivers State wing still has teeth to bite and should not be taken for granted or pushed to the wall. “How come teachers will be begging for promotion and other staturory rights since 2009? “The other demands of the union include financial implementation of verified promotions of teachers for 2009 and 2010, payment of outstanding salaries of February and March 2016 to affected teachers, payment of rural area allowance to teachers, the release of promotion letters for 2011, 20112 and 2013 teachers under the senior secondary schools board and payment of pensions and gratuities to retired teachers.’’ 1 Like |
