Hi Guys, I am trying to apply for the Member-in-Training at APEGA before I land in Canada. I realise I need an ICAP report from WES, however, I only assessed my Master's qualification during the immigration exercise. Will I need to assess my BSc with WES in order for it to be included i the ICAP report that APEGA requires? |

jelmusboy: Please did you use your UCI number only or with COPR to attend the courses? I have the new UCI but still waiting for my PPR, will I be allowed to attend the courses? I need something to be doing to keep busy |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by TEECANN: 7:58am On Oct 07, 2018 |
rainazoe: @rainazoe Yes, I began processing the CPA Ontario's Internationally Trained Accountants' (ITA) path registration. I quickly realized that my ICAN ACA amounts to little in the conversion process as I was expected to practically challenge most of the papers in the CPA Ontario exams all over (Biko, not at this ol' age again ) so I kind of abandon the process (the painful part was all the kish I had expended to get registered) But recently, I have found a way around the matter through CIMA, so I won't have to write CPA Ontario papers again, I'll just apply using CIMA for direct CPA membership through the MRA (mutual recognition agreement) CIMA has with CPA Ontario. Se fini However, the caveat is that from registering for CIMA(using ICAN) to using CIMA to register for CPA Ontario's membership, I will cost around 700k naira (yes, almost a million naira). IMHO, I still prefer to spend it than re-writing those papers. Another caveat, as an immigrant, you have to sort out your membership of CIMA before stepping foot in Canada, if you start the process of taking CIMA exams or converting your ICAN to CIMA after landing, they wont accept it (It's on CPA Ontario website) These stuffs are long and windy but it with diligent research and prompt action, they are doable. It will end in praise IJN! 12 Likes 3 Shares |

Good day, my hubby is an engineer and we are presently processing EE. He has applied for WES though, do we need to upgrade to WES ICAP now seeing that he will need a course by course evaluation in order to practice engineering in Canada. At the monent we are still yet to get the ECA. |

Zeiya: You would be able to attend the course with just your UCI and probably evidence of Med passed. At least that's what wifey used way back in March or so. |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by sparkle2k3: 11:06am On Oct 07, 2018 |
Zeiya: Your UCI with any other document showing you're awaiting ppr will suffice. I added my AOR letter. I've completed the advance course. 1 Like 1 Share |

TEECANN: Hopefully, ICAN will conclude the MRA with CPA Canada very soon. I heard this from the ICAN President himself at a forum some weeks back in Abuja where he mentioned that he just came back from Canada a few days earlier to tidy up the MRA with CPA. He also said the MRAs is at an advanced stage. He also spoke about the conclusion of MRA with ICAEW, which was circulated to members a few days later. I also read sometimes early this year where CPA Canada President or a representative( can't vividly remember) mentioned that if they conclude with ICAN, members will be granted same priveledges given to ACCA members. We pray that this happens faster than we anticipate. I personally have decided to wait and see how this pans out. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Just seeing this and it made my day(lolsided). Their fingers are not frozen from snow shovelling. Once people identify you are from Manitoba, you are in trouble. They will start bombarding you with request for their provincial nominee requirement. The one that has to do with family and friends sponsorship so people living there hide themselves. TEECANN:Hi, kindly confirm from CPA if you can use CIMA obtained through MRA to obtain CPA membership. My colleague had wanted to use this medium but on enquiry to CPA, he was told the CIMA won't fly because of certain reasons. please confirm before you waste your money.. even on CPA Ontario website, you'll see information about completing the whole CIMA qualification in order to be eligible (check no 2 of eligibility criteria) . Those who converted ICAN to ACCA, then to CPA are able to do so because CPA only requires ACCA members to have completed the professional level exams which ICAN members do during conversion to ACCA... You can't convert your CIMA to CPA with all papers exempted. . or if you have a contrary information gotten from CPA, please let me know... Thank you 1 Like |

In sure Toronto is treating you okay @czaratwork. happy thanksgiving to you too @blackbuddy and to all ye in canada (those present whether physically or spiritually). Enjoy the long weekend. @glitteringstar it's only landing story we asked for, not mini préparation for citizenship exams . PresVA: Thank you @PresVA, Lovely thoughts there. I'll check out the "eligibility criterium 2" again. Meanwhile, I see serious "sense" in the bold part above regarding using an "all-paper exempted" CIMA for conversion. One should enquire widely really. Issyman: Thanks for this info though I heard a similar jist too in passing, but didnt believe it...[s]as with every other "to do" checklist from our leaders and institutions[/s] If it's really true and it pans out on time, I'll probably wait too but I only hope this funny "10-year recency rule" requirement of ones ICAN exams will not be applicable in a conversion situation with CPA. It will all end in praise IJN! |

drcynthia: It is one of the pre arrival online courses. There are many of them ,you choose the one most suitable for your career. We went early for the biometrics ( we didn't book appointment). We were there before 6.30am and waited till 8.00am(opening time). The people i met there were less than 100 for different stuff. About 20-25 people came for biometrics. I left before 9.00am. |

Hi everyone, Just got my ppr and would be submitting passports during the week. I know it’s only 396 pages but it’ll be nice to have a summary or most important things to note for anyone with active plans to relocate to Canada. I already noted the Driver’s license letter and tips for getting a job but I know there’s more Thanks! 3 Likes |

Zeiya: If you are referring to the FPHRC course, you can use your UCI no alone and upload your AOR letter as evidence. That's what I did and I completed the course in August. The lady at the Canada orientation session (IOM) said I didn't need COPR. |
