In many museum (especially Ethiopian). . . people steal the heritages with no weapon. If there is lack of attention. . .they would easily take it. I have seen a BBC documentary that shows Europeans has been checking for the Arc in Axum but not in the church which is why I thought it was to protect it from these people.
