We called him uncle Dan, my primary four teacher, he was everyones favourite teacher. He took his time to make sure I understood what he was teaching, he was always asking if I understood like I was the only one in class. I taught he genuinely cared about me and my parents liked him too.
He loved telling us jokes and stories and sometimes while teaching he would pause and start talking about how beautiful the girls in his class are, I was always number one, but my young mind didn't see anything wrong with this until the day he sexually assaulted me and turned from my best to worst teacher ever.
I was 9 years old, he called me to an empty classroom and told me to sit on his legs, I declined but he drew me to himself and put his finger in my pant as soon as I realised what he was doing I released myself from his grip and ran for my dear life. He tried to hold me, but i was too fast for him, I dont know where the strength and wisdom came from and then he tried to bribe me with 20 naira so I wouldnt tell anyone, I didn't take it but I was too afraid and confused to talk about it until 2 years later because I taught it was my fault.
I heard he raped a girl in the school, fortunately my family moved and I left the school few weeks later.
I hated him for a long time and wished evil things would happen to him and his female children but now I dont even care about him, no hatred, no anger, just nothing.

What if your father did an evil thing that made someone swear for his female children and maybe that is why you were fingered.

So many teachers come to mind but let me just mention two.

The two Mr Collins, one in my junior secondary school and the other in senior secondary school. Amazing teachers. The one in my senior secondary school played and talked with us as if we were age mates. He talked about girls and shook us boys like friends.
I miss you both.

Other teachers are remembered both good and bad but I don't have strength and time to mention them all.

One day, in SS1 I was summoned to the staff room for questioning. My 2nd term JS1 teacher wanted to know why I had failed English in SS1. Upon further investigations it was found out that my CAT scores were not properly divided. I passed.

This was a school of 8 class arms with an average of 36 students per class arm, and Miss Ejiogu who had taught me for just one term 3-4 years before was so confident in my abilities that she had boasted to her colleagues that I couldn't fail English Language.

She is the reason I proof-read all my write-ups (even text messages) and punctuate them accordingly. I have this nagging feeling that she may read my work, and I cannot let her down. I do not want to be summoned to the staff room again.
