*pocohantas disables USSD on mugu's account by dialling *894*911#.

*pocohantas dials mugu & introduces herself as a First Bank staff from the head office who has noticed a problem / potential hack on his account.

*Mugu tries an online transaction & finds this to be true.
(at this point, Mugu panics & his guard is down)

*pocohantas blows more "foneh" & eventually asks mugu to provide his bank PIN as final step / verification.

*Mugu complies.

*pocohantas redials *894*911# & reactivates Mugu's USSD service.

*Mugu verifies this & thanks her.



3 hours later Mugu starts receiving debit alerts...

A fraudster cannot reactivate a blocked number through *894*911# code, once its blocked, it can't be unblocked unless the customer visits the branch to unblock it. You will agree with me that a fraudster cannot go to the branch to reactivate back a customer's blocked line as she will be arrested on sight. So you see, your analogy isn't possible.


By the way, first bank is not responsible for a customer who reveals his or her secret information to an unknown person and Firstbank will not call a customer to reveal sensitive details. The bank educates her customers on this every single day never to reveal sensitive information.


Please try to ask questions rather than assuming.

if so, any mischievous person can deactivate a random/known person's ability to transfer funds and the account owner keeps going in and out of bank.

with this feature, the owner doesn't need to worry about his/her funds being cleared. Its deactivated automatically.

customer can.. By dialling the first contact number and telling them to block his lines.

A 4 pin security pin should be created for this. Otherwise, Hackers that already have details of your account will block you from using USSD codes and finish you under a few minutes.
