West Ham, Chelsea, Arsenal & Huddersfield Nigerian Starlets Named Among Top 20 Talents At Premier League Clubs
Four players of Nigerian descent have been named to the prestigious Guardian UK's Next Generation 2018: 20 of the best talents at Premier League clubs.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Chelsea's Faustino Anjorin, Huddersfield Town's Mustapha Olagunju and West Ham's Daniel Jinadu have been included on the list of top 20 footballers born between 1 September 2001 and 31 August 2002, otherwise known as first-year scholars.

Of the aforementioned players, only defender Olagunju, who agreed a scholarship deal with the Terriers in April 2018, has not represented England's youth teams.

On Saka, the newspaper wrote, ''Saka is a left winger who can also play at left-back, who trades on his power, directness, ability to beat his man and final ball. The London-born England under-17 international has a physical solidity that belies his years. With Reiss Nelson on loan at Hoffenheim for the season, he senses sustained opportunity at under-23 level. ''

''Anjorin has been with Chelsea since the age of six, a powerful, box-to-box midfielder who scored eight goals in 24 games for the youth team last season including the last in the 4-0 Youth Cup final second-leg rout of Arsenal at the Emirates,'' London football correspondent Dominic Fifield said on Anjorin.

''His athletic qualities are obvious – he is 6ft 2in, strong and fast – but his attitude, understanding of the game and his deftness on the ball are the traits that coaches find especially encouraging. He is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria,'' Paul Doyle said on Mustapha Olagunju.

''Jinadu, who is of Nigerian descent, has represented England at youth level and Manuel Pellegrini included him in the first team’s pre-season training camp. It was a big vote of confidence in the youngster’s ability from West Ham’s manager, who will expect him to progress at youth level this season,'' Jacob Steinberg praised Jinadu.

Liverpool's Dominic Solanke, Man City's Tosin Adarabioyo, Sunderland's Josh Maja and Crystal Palace's Joseph Hungbo were named among the best prospects at Premier League clubs in the past.

Rohr: Why I Invited Ighalo; Thoughts On Onyekuru, Collins For Super Eagles – Libya Clashes

October 11, 2018 4:56 pm

By Johnny Edward in Uyo:

Super Eagles coach,Gernot Rohr, has explained that Odion Ighalo was called up for the team’s 2019 Africa Cup Nations qualifying double header against Libya due to his consistent scoring form in the Chinese Super League for Changchun Yatai, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ighalo has scored 20 CSL goals for Changchun Yatai so far this season, but has barely been impressive for the Super Eagles after the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“Ighalo is a player who did very well for the country during the World Cup qualifiers, particularly against Cameroon,” Rohr said during his media conference in Uyo on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium.

“He had a difficult World Cup, which was not so easy for him, but he is doing well for his club having scored over 20 goals – it was a good reason to invite him.

“And we don’t have the time to change all our offensive players and that was why we invited Isaac Success.”

“The problem is to find the understanding with the other players. We have a new player in Samuel Kalu, so we need more communication

“We can also play like we did against Iceland with two strikers, where we lined up Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho.

“We also have Henry Onyekuru who plays for Galatasaray. He scored a fantastic goal against Liberia. So we are good in that area.

“Also the spirit of competition is now there in the team.

“Winning Libya won’t be easy, that’s why we are preparing hard for this game. With two wins, we are through to the AFCON.”

Rohr who is targeting his first home win the AFCON qualifiers having lost to South Africa last June also gives a strong incline that Paderborn left back Jamilu Collins could make his official Super Eagles debut against Libya on Saturday after closely monitoring him at his German club.

“Collins is interesting for us. He has the qualities to play very well for us,” Rohr remarked.

“Perhaps he will start the game (vs Libya).

“It is not just because he has a good left foot. He has a good physique. He is quick, he can go forward and he is defensively strong.

“I saw him play for Paderborn when they beat Cologne 5-3 and he did very well.

“Two, three years ago, Paderborn were in the Bundesliga and they now want to come back (to the top flight). They have a really strong team.

“What I also saw of him before the Seychelles game was good, but he had a little injury, he wasn’t 100% to start the game.”

“He started the game in Monrovia against Liberia and he was good.”

However, Rohr admits that competition for the left-full-back position is open in the absence of Elderson Echiejile, who has yet to secure a new club.

Ola Aina and Bryan Idowu are the other left-back options available for Rohr.

Six Things We Noticed From Super Eagles First Training Session In Uyo Pre-Libya
The Super Eagles will take on Libya in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday and began their preparations for the crucial match on Wednesday evening.

Here are six things we noticed during the practice at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium ahead of their most important match since they were narrowly beaten by Argentina at the 2018 World Cup :

1) Arsenal star Alex Iwobi is in fine form, from slick passes to awareness of where to locate his teammates, and lovely layoffs.

2) Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu is quite skillful and is in contention to make the starting line-up against Libya despite the return of the more experienced Moses Simon.

3) Watford striker Isaac Success did not undergo training in the gym during the off-season for nothing. He used his strength and grit in yesterday's session and did bulldoze his way around. He will certainly be a handful if brought on at some point in the double-header.

4) Rotherham United's Semi Ajayi has got some nice touches and also knows when to release the ball to a teammate.

5) Deportivo de La Coruña loanee Francis Uzoho is quite a shot-stopper. He did save some shots in quick succession during the practice game. Seems to have cemented a spot in the starting line-up.

6) Changchun Yatai star Odion Ighalo is fired up for the Libya match and there's hope it will translate to goals during the AFCON qualifiers.

Iwobi was a youth academy player who had not played one competitive game for Arsenal before he was called to the SE.

Do you know how players play with the first team in an EPL Academy, it's mildly indicate of progress it's not an absolute. I know players who even went on trial for the U23 trained with the first team. But in the end did not get a contract offer.
Like @forgiveness just confirmed - he got invited, cap and sent back to the U23 because Siasia needed him.
After that, how many first team games did he play before his next invite?? Would you STILL call him an U19 player??
Remember we've agreed the only reason he got initially invited was so he could play for the U23.

Another chance for Ighalo to prove himself. I hope Isaac Success is given at least 20 minutes.

Aina should start ahead of Shehu. Shehu has only played once this season due to injury and it was in midfield.

Otherwise, not a bad starting line-up.

Bundesliga sides Nurnberge, Hannover and Stuttgart are rumored to be preparing a January bid for Paderbon Nigerian left full back, Jamil Collins who has been somewhat a big hit for the promotion chasing 2 Bundesliga side.

Cardif and Huddersfield are also reported to have registered interests in Rotterdam's former Arsenal youth team captain, Semi Ajayi

Olagunju is one boy I will like Manu Garba to fast track into the golden Eaglets set up. The boy may turn out to be a big addition considering how poor Manu's defense was in Chad.

I was there but if I didn't know Iwobi I would be asking what the Jordon Hybe is about. He didn't do anything we see on TV,, in fact his best moment was a delicious chip of Ezenwa something he has not done yet

Ighalo seems to be on a mission. He was no smiles while coming and he didn't look like a guy lacking in confidence but I wouldn't call yesterday's performance a mind changer because they didn't do much.

I was most impressed with Ola Aina. Seems to have lost a bit of weight and not only did he score 2 belters he also looked more comfortable defensively.

Also I don't think those calling for Henry as top 9 know exactly how slender the boy's frame is

Yes but not every player get's signed after those tournaments. Nazifi should have focused on Kano pillars instead of globe trotting in search of a foreign club. Alhassan did just that and they are getting signed at about the same time and I can almost guarantee he will be the more ready for first team football

Honestly 5 minute is enough for you to know if a player is good or not,if his fit. You don't have to play 10min before we know.

Even your first 3 touch or positioning will either make or mar you if you're worthy,ok
