I am starting my house project size (35 ft by 97 ft), and have given an architect to do my designs (2 storey building, that is two floors above the ground floor with a small BQ beside). I want to start bit by bit as I am not loaded for now.

He is insisting that I go for structural design before I commence, But I think I can get a good civil engineer to supervise once in a while during the project to save cost instead of doing the structural designs (He (the architect) has given me the DWG drawings for structural design). What do you advice?

I am now waiting for the architect to finish off his designs and then I begin setting out.

Hey Chief, can you get approval to put up a 2-storey doing where you stay without a structural design? Just curious why cost should override what IMO is a key safety step.

You might already have started the project on the wrong footing. Good luck though.

I'm not getting your write up in one bit.
What you intend doing is not a bungalow.
Much as Julius Berger or Dantata, etc,etc, are construction experts, they don't initiate any construction plan without doing a comprehensive design for all phases.
Any Civil/Structural Engineer who handles your project without taking a look at your structural design is most likely not one.
There are persons who can give you what you need at a considerable price.

Getting your design approved by the relevant government authorities is a different ball game.
But just ensure you have your complete drawings done.

It is obvious you are not requesting this info for your personal building. I will advice you work out the quantities you need, go to market and get the prevailing prices of materials you required add your profit and submit your quote. Or better still consult a pro QS to help you.

Tell him to get you a structural engineer that will do what you need.

the best way to construction the soak away and septic tank is to do a precast from the surface and sink it to the ground . there will be pumping machine to pump the water out on the day of sinking and it will be property sealed. That is the way we do it Lagos island where the water level is high . NB u need a capable hand to do this.
