Until it commences, I will not believe this. Over 3 years now, we are still waiting on Buhari/APC to fulfil election promises. |

And the same state is in debt of over N100billion. A failed regime already sited. Make sure as education is free, teachers and state workers will not also work for free without salaries. Rubbish. |

divinelove: Herdmen killings have subsided for now, coz election is around d corner. Their blood suckers sponsor have asked them to chill, perhaps until after d forthcoming election. Besides, Fulani can't attack Ekiti coz d incumbent governor is in APC, and you know, anyone in APC is free from all forms of threats, be it corruption, genocide or EFCC assault. |

divinelove:your hatred for APC will make you call white black. this typical of Nigerians . why not applauds what is good and condemns what is evil irrespective of who is involved. lest I forget it's your pdp that Bring to what it is now. with this mindset, there's no need clamouring for youths to involve in leadership because it is still toeing the paths of our great grand parents. 1 Like |

With what revenue governor? Perhaps if you reduced your entourage, car fleet, feeding budget, and a modest inauguration, you might barely be able to pay teachers, forget "free education" where the schools have no walls, and "free lunch" where the chicken is barely recognizable. |

I noticed some people are trying to rubbish or downplay this. Just cos of your hatred of APC. I pray you receive sense. Go and ask parents paying school fees what relief this is and learn to give credit when due 1 Like |

femi4: I agree free education is better than 'stomach infrastructure' But is is not better to spend the money improving the quality of education, and creating enabling environment for businesses to sprout and thrive? Especially if parents are able to pay for their wards education by themselves. 3 Likes |

Dumdumfashion: You said it all. Free education can't work in this age unless we are talking of education without standard. For education to be of good quality, it should subsidized. A win-win situation for the government and the citizens. Free education is waste. 1 Like |

divinelove: philanjay: Ghidey: What did divinelove say that is wrong: Ekiti is a poor state, and Government has not demonstrated ability to pay for its existing obligations. Why introduce new liabilities, when you've not added a plan to generate new revenues. He's not mentioned a concrete, actionable plan to increase revenues, but is quick to increase spending. That makes no sense. Nigerian governments (fed and state) are notoriously inefficient at spending public money on education - we have many many examples of this. Instead of reducing the amount of money spent by parents (which really translates to inadequate facilities and unpaid teachers), the government should be focused on increasing job opportunities for those parents, which would translate to a higher standard of living, and revenue for the state. The man has connections - invite industrialist to setup factories (take a cue from Ogun state in the last decades); give tax-incentives; harness your agricultural base; empower your educated workforce to become entrepreneurs. The money used for "free education" would see a better turnover if used to jumpstart companies (and government can arrange to keep 10% non-voting equity in those companies)... There's a time and place for free education, but not until there are solid revenues and a system to support it forever. 3 Likes 1 Share |

This is not how to run government. What must federal now allocate money to a state because the governor is a member of the party. What tied their hands to give the state its due allocation when Fayose was there. This is just pathetic. This was not how our fathers like Awolowo did it. Once Fayemi's tenure expires and another party wins, the state returns to poverty because Abuja will not send their allocation. So pathetic. Why the country have continued going round a circle since 1960. sojiboy: 1 Like |
