I am not even saying these guys aren't average, I am saying not all of them were at the time, This is quite similar to Liverpool of last season, can we call Liverpool of last season average too? Considering the names that played in the final

Liverpool of last year was average. Before last season how many of those Liverpool players will you support your team to buy for more than 30M

The only thing that worked for them last year was the Klopp tactic and the insane form of Sallah

Otherwise Trent Arnold, Lovren, Robertson Matip Klavan, Gomez Henderson Milner, Wijnaldum are just mediocre players most wont even stand out at average West Ham or Newcastle

Perfect platform for who? How? where?

He couldn't replicate same form for England. I'm sure this is the same argument used against Messi.

That Liverpool team was a team in all sense of the word, they had some very good individual players like Gerrard, Alonso, Hamaan, Garcia, Smicer, Riise, Hypia who provided leadership at the back and maybe Carra.

Gerrard had the perfect platform that ensured he played his game, I am not certain Gerrard will be as potent or influential if he joined Man Utd or Chelsea, he'd have won more trophies but he'd have been outshoned by other players.

The fact is that its easier to achieve and your talent noticed with better players than with useless ones

Please how were Smicer, Hamman Hyypia Riise Caragher and co better than the average players around, Would any of them have made it into Man Utd of that time or Chelsea

Like someone noted, its no different from the Liverpool of last year and very few players in the Liverpool team that made the final last year would even be considered to play for rival clubs

And this season?

This season their team is better than last year but the reference was Liverpool of last year that made the final

Oxlade couldnt make Arsenal team became one of their best midfielder, Lovren, Klavan Karius, Wijdamun, Milner, look at that lineup would you push for Mourinho to sign any of those this time last year

The reference was last season because it would lead us to this season, is The team average now?

They made the CL final last season not this season.

They have made significant improvement and their team this season cant be called average when you have some of the most expensive players in the world in it

In their current team they have one of the most expensive Keepers midfielder and defender in the world

Adding Keita Allison and Van Dyke to the team is an injection of about 200M.

You cannot spend 200M and not improve your team unless you are Conte

Reaching the UCL final twice in quick succession should count for something especially at a time Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan, Juventus etc were almost on par.

nope- the argument against Messi is that he needs better players to shine. He can't do it with worse players.

Gerrard was already doing it with some truly crappy players for Liverpool, so there's no excuse of being carried or provided a platform by anybody else.

Expensive doesn't mean world class, the players added this season weren't in the team that played the Champions League final last season, except one, One was from Monaco, one was from Leipzig, One was from Roma. We haven't seen what these new additions will do in the league or the Champions League, Now let's assume these new players weren't added this season. With the team that played the Champions League last season, would you still call them average this season?

They even beat Barcelona to progress to the quarter finals that year.

Argentina has very good players so I am not sure why anybody will argue that the quality isn't there...
The Messi argument is more or less centred on the fact that at Barcelona, he has the perfect system to bring the best out of him but not so at Argentina, just the same way Gerrard was great for Liverpool and not so great for England.
The system in both cases favored them at their respective clubs.
PS: England had above average and great players in their team, why didn't Gerrard do well?

what had Kyle Walker, Ederson, Fernandinho, KDB, Aguero, David Silva, Laporte and co won before joining City?

If not for Salah, that Liverpool team was very average. There's a reason Klopp broke his own transfer rules and ran to buy Allison and Van Dijk - if in doubt, check what happened in UCL final.

no it's not, otherwise people won't be cussing valverde everyday.

Messi didn't have any perfect system anything- what he has had is incredible teammates.

If my grandmother played with Ronaldinho, Etoo, Henry, David Villa, Xavi, Iniesta, Dani Alves, Neymar, Luis Suarez etc...she too will do very well.

count the number of Balon Dor podium finishers, golden boot winners, TOTY members in that list.

Now that all those players have either left or casted, no hopers like Roma are spanking Barca like a particularly vicious dominatrix.

Your first paragraph is exactly the point I am trying to make with the Liverpool team that made the Champions League final twice in 3 years, My reason for asking Dayo if the Liverpool team this season is average, Let's remove the players bought this season because they weren't part of Liverpool's Champions League campaign last season, which brings me to this, is the Liverpool team average?

Cause I am still struggling to see how and why a team that made two finals in three years is average even with the addition of new players, if we agree that this Liverpool team now after their exploits in the Champions League last season is average, I will agree the Liverpool team that made two finals in three years was average

Yes it counted for something that is why Gerrard and Benitez to me gets a lot of credit

They changed Dudek, Djimi Traore, Hamman, Baros, Luis Garcia, Kewell replacing them with more pipes like Kuyt, Pennant, Zenden, Sissoko, Bellamy and Crouch and still made the final again

Yes very average minus Salah

Like Dayo said, Klopps tactics and Salah's form allowed them to shine.

Remove Salah last season, and see them get spanked 3-1 in a champions league final.

Apart from Salah and Van Dijk, Liverpool dont have any world class player.

So you think they just decided to break transfer records to sign average players? Currently Liverpool is involved in a title race for the first time in a long time and they are starting the season as one of the top 2 favourites to win. why is that?

If those players werent added they still have Karius in goal. They will be an average team and slightly better than last season based on the fact they would have developed more chemistry and played together longer

At this time last year will anyone consider buying any of Liverpools player to replace their own player?
Oxlade, Milner that made their midfield were outcast from other top 4 sides while Wijdanum was a relegated player with Newcastle

TAA Robertson were youth gambles that paid off and the less said about Lovren, Klavan, Karius and Matip the better

Give this same Liverpool to another coach even Mourinho or Pep remove Salah and Klopp and see them crash out of the group stages and finish 10th

And Gerrard did all the passing to himself, assisting and scoring all the goals by himself while the rest players were just training cones, pipe like crouch was the second highest goal scorer after Kaka in 2007, Pipes like finnan and Bellamy were Liverpool's highest assist creators with 4 and 3, Gerrard had 2

Cleverly was at that time a youth team member in Man Utd. between 2005 and 2007 he was just 16yr-18

Anderson between 2005 and 2007, Anderson was playing with Gremio and Porto not at Man Utd

Oshea was just a rotation player, and not considered a core player at that time, Anyone can be a rotation player in a club its like asking that if Adarabioyo Zincheko and Danilo can play for City then Bobolayefa Edom, Isaac Asare, John Aranka, and Chikelue Iloanusi can also play for City
