How many of them have a MSc degree? Then how many of those have PhD degrees in the respective departments? Now, tell us how many new pharmacy schools we can operate to produce the needed shortfall?

Second, how do you plan to service a country of 170 million when we probably have less than 10,000 community pharmacists in the country? As much as I loathe the founding of the PPMVL I have again and again at several fora agreed with the government on this initiative. How many of the pharmacists are willing to set up premises in remote villages? Not many, or not any. Don't the individuals living in these rural areas (>60% of Nigerian population) deserve ready access to medicines? Of course they do. And you still think drug supply should remain an exclusive preserve of pharmacists even when we can not meet society's demands?

Third, yes it sounded rosy because it is actually rosy. In my state most of the biggest pharmacies are owned by non-pharmacists. And from privileged information from PCN monitoring team in the state, such pharmacies frequently comply more with the expectations of the council than pharmacist-owned premises. It is only in non-pharmacist owned premises that you are certain to meet the superintendent pharmacists on seat, unlike pharmacist-owned premises where the pharmacist owner who frequently doubles as the superintendent is almost always missing from seat. I am telling you 2016 figure.

Hungry pharmacist... I'm really shocked the several unflattering words you have used in describing pharmacists in the space of 48 hours. For this reason alone I am going to end my response to you here. Those female pharmacists you talked down on for marrying whomever they want, and those ones you called hungry pharmacists just because they take up employment from non-pharmacists... You really need to learn decorum and how to accord respect to your colleagues (I'm assuming here that you are either a young pharmacist or an intending pharmacist).

I still do not understand why anyone has to cram to study for a pharmacy degree. I immensely enjoyed my undergrad years as a pharmacy students, and yes I attended one of the most difficult faculties of pharmacy in Nigeria. Admittedly, majority of Nigerian students (be they Pharmacy students, Medical students, Yoruba, Business Admin students..etc) feel the need to cram to bag their respective degrees. That in itself is a failure of the educational system we run. And it is not limited to Pharmacy students. Students need to cram when the curriculum is lopsided in favour of didactic teaching to the detriment of exposure to real life situations. As a pharmacy student I found every bit of the experience fascinating, the microbiology, the biochemistry, the pharmacology, the pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, the pharmaceutics, the pharmacognosy, the forensics...
I just wish our educators in the country would have the courage to make learning more exciting than it currently is.

Pharmacy is a 5yr course+ 1yr internship+ 1yr Nysc. Any student who wishes to study pharmacy must first of all love chemistry!. And must be very good in phy maths bio.
Pharmacy is a course dat has a whole faculty dedicated to it alone (faculty of pharmacy) and comprises of five branches and one unit;
- Clinical pharmacy and pharmacy administration
- Pharmaceutical chemistry
- Pharmaceutics
- Pharmacognosy
- Pharmacology
- Drug research and production unit

To be a pharmacist, u must be able to cram. People often said that if u can study pharmacy, u can study medicine conveniently.
The sole work of a pharmacist is to ensure proper dispensation and usage of drugs.
Remember, only pharmacists are licensed to import, dispense and sell drugs.
As a pharmacist, u have career options in

If you plan on working in a hospital, which is the case of many pharmacists, Dentistry is more preferable and lucrative. But if you want to fully go into business, then pharmacy is more lucrative.

Honestly, after going through the comments, I became scared.
I already have HND in sci lab tech, But i feel empty! I want save money and go back to study a more fulfilling course.
I have pharmacy in mind. And i also have ABU Zaria as the institution i intend studying in. Now, my problem is, as a DE applicant, I learnt they will send me to 100level
What I read here really got me scared if really the course is difficult.
Or should I just go for med lab sci?

Remember when I 1st started, cramming so not my style (wish I can say that now)...as am trying and still learning the hard way to cram
These days our education system encourage crammers more....imagine a lecturer telling a student to give them back what they gave said students (thus cramming must be done)
