The President & all government officials should also be barred from using foreign hospitals for check up & treatment. What is good for Bulus is also good for Bala.

Hehehe! Buhari first of all needs to ban himself from going outside Nigeria to seek healthcare. He ban the NMA in 1984 while Prof.Isaac Adewole was NARD president that he fled into exile.Today in 2018, Buhari is banning private practice among doctors under same Adewole as Minister of Health & Ngige another doctor as Labour Minister.

Can someone explain what will happen to the doctors that own their hospitals and are currently working in government hospitals?

If they'll have to resign, how many of them will prefer government owned entities? The pay they receive in a month from government could be gotten in two days most time in their hospitals.

Isn't it going to be suicidal if the ones that owns hospital resign as a result of this?
Only time will tell.

Write like a learned and responsible person. Nobody asked you not to become a CEO or whatever. He simply stated, "if you are government doctor" which means you are under the payroll of the government, you aren't liable to own a private hospital. If you want the latter then denounce your membership as a government doctor. It's pretty simple, how difficult is that to comprehend

Well they should choose one...
Private practice or public/govt Hospitals..
Funny enough, 70% doctors usually run private clinics which they refer their patients to.

Highly commended move but I won't vote for Buhari though..

This is awesome..... How doctors who re paid over 500k monthly by the federal government still refer u to their useless private hospital,
which doctor is paid over 500k, not everybody will see rhe one paid over 500k cos he went to school for at least 14 yrs to earn that 500k, the ones you will see ehn earn about 100k. This paper wont help anything but increase death rate.

But what do i care, tired of talking to ignorant nigerians

Conflict of interest laws are not new.

If true, this is a good development. It is not fair to the government hospitals, for doctors to work at their private institutions while on the government hospital time.

Also, it is not fair for the business of the government hospital, if their patients can be diverted to the doctor's private clinic.

Bottom line is that for healthcare to improve, government hospitals need to be run better and everybody needs to be accountable.

Above all healthcare needs to be properly funded. Either by the government directly or via private insurance companies. Otherwise, healthcare workers will continue to scramble for peanuts and leave for more profitable jobs.

He goat. Is it not me and you including the poor masses that he is trying to save? you don't know why Our public hospitals are not working is because of conflict of interest? the saying that we "rushed our dying relative to the general hospital but there was no Doctor and equipment to attend to him and he died" is what the president is trying to correct. a situation where many of these Doctors divert patients to their private clinics where they charge exorbitant fees as against the subsidised fees if such cases were treated in the hospitals. Again, most of these doctors play truancy to duty leaving where they are employed and pay attention to their private clinics, leaving the poor masses who cannot afford the high fees in their private clinics to suffer. This is not to talk of the diverting of public equipment to their private clinics. so It's better if they want to go public, they are free, but If they want to go private no problem.

I don't get this whole military tactics.
Doctors remained the highest beneficiaries of govt wages in the civil service. They earn a multiple of 4 (x4) of what the mainstream civil servants in the same level earn.

and they work more hours, sometimes 36 hour shifts like 4-10 times a month, including weekends and publc holidays. Also other health workers do shifts, not calls, so they dont put in much time.

Great one by PMB. The wailers are already wailing due to their usual wail first understand later attitude.
Please let us leave politics out of this. It is in North Korea, Cuba and a few other backward countries that such draconian rules exist.

In some other countries, pay is good enough that many doctors see no need for extra private work. Canada for example.

Bubu runs to UK everytime he is ill. He obviously rates UK health care system as excellent. I can tell you for a fact that UK doctors can do private work alongside full time govt job.

The private job helps to decongest the national health service as those who can afford it go private.

And this has been the case since 1948 when NHS first started.

Many doctors would like to do govt job only. Especially females who also have children. But their pay has to be much better. This new rule if eventually passed and implemented will only push more doctors to check out and others focus on private work only.

He should have instead invested more money and re-organised the national health care system first to cope with new rules. Then he could make it compulsory for perhaps all senior doctors/consultants of Nigerian citizenship under the age of say 55 to do some govt job at least. Or some other innovative idea to ensure the masses have more experienced doctors in public hospitals.

Using govt resource to do private work is never allowed. If some doctors do so, then he should focus on fighting that robustly.
