Pay the doctors 400k entry level salary, then u can talk about this.do u know doctors salary in south Africa here?

Don't mind them..Paying doctors less than 300dollars a month..A consultant hardly earns 1000$...And he's passing rubbish laws......

Why don't he first ban he and his Senate from travelling abroad for medical checkup....It's only masses that should pay the sacrifice....Thunder will fire them last last

Na for experienced doctors to leave hospitals be that for inexperienced newly out of school doctors to kill as many people as possible as they learn on the job and eventually also leave

Leave hospital and go to where?
Will you employ them?
Where do you assume they got their experience?
Can every doctor own a hospital?

Very, very good..!!
They would learn to concentrate on their work now...they either choose to work for the government or go and establish their own...simple..!!
No public doctor should be allowed to be using government resources to finance their own private entity..
Thumps up for the president if this is true..!!!

Peace..!!!

This is very good, throughout my pregnancy days at the teaching hospital ,the Dr assigned to me I don't know how he looks like cos he never showed up only his team were around.
Even fellow Drs were angry cos he was always at navy hospital
Even the day I was operated he never came
This is really good, if you want to own a clinic do so and leave the rest

Can someone explain what will happen to the doctors that own their hospitals and are currently working in government hospitals?

If they'll have to resign, how many of them will prefer government owned entities? The pay they receive in a month from government could be gotten in two days most time in their hospitals.

Isn't it going to be suicidal if the ones that owns hospital resign as a result of this?
Only time will tell.

Wrong! angry

A private hospital is a business venture angry It's their right to set up and own any legitimate business angry

Actually you are the one that is wrong in the circumstance.

Extant civil service rules forbid government workers from owning private businesses because of the inherent problem of conflict of interest.

Doctors can own and run their private hospitals but they have to choose between private practice or public practice.

In a country where there is a high rate of unemployment, people who have the financial and technical capacity should establish their own businesses (hospitals) in this case and allow other qualified people without the financial wherewithal to take government employments.

It won't solve anything cos the doctors will just transfer ownership of their hospitals to relatives, spouses or children. So how does that solve d problem?

As long as those relatives are not MBBS holders, it won't work.

The implication would mean that experienced old doctors would leave public work.
Even in the west, consultants own private specilized clinics.

The experienced doctors ones used patients as experiment to gather the experience they brag about. Let the new doctors enjoy the same privilege.

ceejay80s:

the experienced ones once started as inexperienced ones remember?

Well, one would hope they are practicing under supervision of an already experienced person, but most of the experienced and very talented doctors, just branch out on their own, the ones we eventually get remaining in the hospitals are poor quality ones, in my experience.

Since, they are not paid well in Nigeria. I don't have to tell you that many top quality Nigerian doctors practice abroad or open their independent practice to end the big bucks to feed their families.

This is my observation, I am not saying, that banning them is bad but there will be consequences. For every action, they will be a reaction. That's why, I believe that policies must be adapted in different countries to fit their specify situations.

If they don't comply they might risk their job been terminated

Many of them still prefer government hospitals if not they wouldn't be there in the first place. If they pay was lucrative I see no reason why many of them still opt in public service

Isn't it going to be suicidal if the ones that owns hospital resign as a result of this?
Only time will tell.
It will improve the health care. Many doctors will concentrate on their work instead of referring patients to their private clinics for ailment that can be treated in public hospital

This is just senseless.

These doctors own private clinics to augment their salaries.

These doctors will prefer to find high jobs overseas than to live off the peanuts the state pays to them.

He's just lost a large number of votes
Buhari is just revealing more of the same "command economy" mindset through which he's run the economy aground. In a country with a decent political order, his departure from office next year would be a certainty by now, but thanks to the terrible choice of main opponent, in the form of a confirmed thief like Atiku, Buhari may well manage to wangle 4 more years in which to continue on his path of economic destruction.

There would definately be an experienced doctor on ground who is not all about the low pay but sees saving lives as a priority. Let those that want to leave leave. You'll be amazed at the changes for the better that would happen.
