angelusbrut: Don't mind them..Paying doctors less than 300dollars a month..A consultant hardly earns 1000$...And he's passing rubbish laws...... Why don't he first ban he and his Senate from travelling abroad for medical checkup....It's only masses that should pay the sacrifice....Thunder will fire them last last 1 Like |

Newboss: Actually you are the one that is wrong in the circumstance. Extant civil service rules forbid government workers from owning private businesses because of the inherent problem of conflict of interest. Doctors can own and run their private hospitals but they have to choose between private practice or public practice. In a country where there is a high rate of unemployment, people who have the financial and technical capacity should establish their own businesses (hospitals) in this case and allow other qualified people without the financial wherewithal to take government employments. 5 Likes |

The implication would mean that experienced old doctors would leave public work. Even in the west, consultants own private specilized clinics. 1 Like |

Bolubaba: ceejay80s: Well, one would hope they are practicing under supervision of an already experienced person, but most of the experienced and very talented doctors, just branch out on their own, the ones we eventually get remaining in the hospitals are poor quality ones, in my experience. Minjim: Since, they are not paid well in Nigeria. I don't have to tell you that many top quality Nigerian doctors practice abroad or open their independent practice to end the big bucks to feed their families. This is my observation, I am not saying, that banning them is bad but there will be consequences. For every action, they will be a reaction. That's why, I believe that policies must be adapted in different countries to fit their specify situations. |

[quote author=Anwons post=72206358] Can someone explain what will happen to the doctors that own their hospitals and are currently working in government hospitals? If they don't comply they might risk their job been terminated If they'll have to resign, how many of them will prefer government owned entities? The pay they receive in a month from government could be gotten in two days most time in their hospitals. Many of them still prefer government hospitals if not they wouldn't be there in the first place. If they pay was lucrative I see no reason why many of them still opt in public service Isn't it going to be suicidal if the ones that owns hospital resign as a result of this?It will improve the health care. Many doctors will concentrate on their work instead of referring patients to their private clinics for ailment that can be treated in public hospital 2 Likes |

grandstar:Buhari is just revealing more of the same "command economy" mindset through which he's run the economy aground. In a country with a decent political order, his departure from office next year would be a certainty by now, but thanks to the terrible choice of main opponent, in the form of a confirmed thief like Atiku, Buhari may well manage to wangle 4 more years in which to continue on his path of economic destruction. 3 Likes |
