I advise you use desktop tracker to clock in your time. Some clients dont joke with screenshots. I have had to terminate a research contract i got cos of that, he was disputing i used google, its a research work and must use Google and other search engines but because I don't use the one he wanted, he disputed. Meanwhile, I already did his job and he was so happy, he even added that other freelancers did not go the extra mile as I did.

All for him to return with, I have issues with your screenshots, and I asked if there was any issue with the job. He asked me to delete the screenshots and reclock, I told him never that I have other jobs to do. He started saying "see i have other freelancers' and I quickly reminded him he sent me an invitation for the job.

At that point if I continue with him i know upwork will make him pay, cos no where in the contract did he write that i shouldn't use google as a search engine he only gave me example of some.

If he is made to pay, he will end the contract and leave a review which I know will be a bad one, I quickly ended the contract and put a note: client not sticking to contract terms as reason for ending contract.

He was surprised I went that far, he apologized and said he wants to rehire me, I told him no need afterall i already delivered the job.

However, some don't mind, as long as you do their job, ask for them to approve your manual time and you add it chikena.

I have a similar experience. I finished the job before I started the timer. I agreed with the buyer to do 10 hours and when the timer clicked 10 hours, I stopped it.

I checked my transaction history and I saw the total amount in my pending transaction but its under review.

Though there were screenshots but it doesn't pertain to the job but the client love the job I did.

He hasn't been online for a while now but since I can see the funds under pending transaction with a clearance date of 24th October.

My question now is, will I get my money or not and what does money in review means?

Something to help the newbies or oldies on upwork. I know a little about upwork cos I am a member of upwork community and I dig deep to know the community I belong, I have also been invited for something I wont be mentioning now but when the time comes, I'll look for a way to inform you guys so some people can benefit from it.

That said, maybe every weekend or any other weekend, I'll do a post on helping new guys succeed. If time permits sha oo, cos am here this week cos I've been less busy and with the look of thungs from next week, I might be away for a while.

Let's start with upwork service fees;

From $1-$500 earnings from one particular client - service feee is 20%
From $501-$10,000 earnings from One particular client - service fee is 10%
From $10,001 earnings from One particular client - service fee is 5%
When you are hired by upwork - service fee is 0.

It is better you end a contract than a client ending it for lack of professionalism? Like for our dear Fidelis, next time make you proof read what your writers write, why wi a professional like you claim you are 'copy and paste' for his client? If you can't meet deadlines or the job was shabbly done, end the contract, it saves you your JSS that is, if you on contstant 100% JSS, end the contract. I cherish mine I don't know about you.

If you attain 100% JSS, one of the benefits you have is that you can remove bad reviews periodically? Yes, you can.

You should never allow a client to contest hourly time logged with you? Same way your client should never end contract for lack of professionalism. If your client win the case against you, unapproved screenshots which shows clearly sites not client's work site, it is taken/treated as fraud. Your account can either be locked, you loose the earnings for the contract etc....

Fidelis, this is for your the bragado (i no you don't have any client you have taken off upwork, na mouth u just dey, but I don't want newbies to be misled) you should never take your clients off upwork? You do not know who is viewing this thread, your identity is here cos you allowed it. I know consistent clients, i mean non fraudulent clients dont go off upwork. I will am not going to brag to show how i have grown but, I will never go take a client off upwork, I am safe, I am protected.

Either a fixed price or hourly contract, you are protected. On hourly jobs, your client's credit card is being charged as your screenshots are taken. One fixed contracts, clients deposit the contract sum into escrow before you begin work. Now, when a job is completed, he is given 6 days to check your work or dispute before your earnings are released.

Your hourly contract is available for review from 1am every Monday our time (GMT+1) till 12noon, client receives a message to approve or disapprove, if by 12noon he doesn't approve or disapprove, it will automatically be shown in your transaction history but showing 'in review' meaning client can still contest however after 9 days your fund is released to you for withdrawals.

Example, two weeks ago, i received a mail that one of my old clients contract has been put on hold, I was mad, i actually thought the client did but when i calm down i saw it was Upwrk, so i knew it must becan issue with his credit card cos previouly ebay couldnt tract it and our account was placed on hold.

I chatted him up, I told him I'll continue with my work and log manual time when the issue is resolved. It was rsolved in 24 hours.

Note; I know my client, I've being working with him for a while now, and i know how much they need me so they can't just be funny.

Upwork asked me to stop work but i private chat with him to go on. If you aren't sure of your client, stop work immediately else OYO, no pay if the client dispute. Hourly time protection doesnt cover that.

Ignore any typos- i did not proof read before posting, don't be like our dear Fidelis looking for errors. Look at the message if it concerns you.

When I have time again I will make trouble if I find one, and also post some other stuffs to help newbies.

That thread about getting a car is just what he wants o use to increase his credibility. He is not really out to buy a car. You know, when his victim visits his profile and sees that he wants to get a car, the victim would think, "hey, he must be legit guy". It's all a trick.

Since I was scammed sometime around March this, I have studied all their tactics. And I'll always do everything possible to foil all their attempts.

Wish I could send you a cold whatever it is that you drink. You're on point about the tactics these scammers use. Some months ago, I was contacted by one of them and I decided to check his profile. Everything was too good to be true. He was active in Business section - Football thread, literature section, romance etc.

As a copywriter, I've learnt a few things about projecting the image you want your audience to see. These scammers are good. Very good.

... His whatsapp profile was nice. It was a whatsapp business account that has a lovely picture of a Nigeria couple with their baby (I guess) as his dp. All these actions .... in an attempt to make you feel safe and make you think they're legit.

I was curious about this moniker and I ran his name and number through Truetalk and Nairaland. Yup, your guess is as good as mine. I got a hit: He is a bloody scammer. I believe they have various monikers on NL.

Cut one head off (once you catch on to a moniker they use) and another head grow in its place. These ppl ain't short of monikers (head).

We need to work on making sure these ppl pay... I'm all for making them suffer if we can find out a way... It's high time we took the fight to them rather than wallow in pain, fear and uncertainty.
