Yes, he has added weight and that has most likely made him a tad slower than normal. He doesn't sprint like he used to and it's affecting his ability to get into dangerous positions when we counter.

Sad to say but Smalling looks like the only CB we can trust of the lot and it shows you how bad the others are. Lindelof naturally should be the best because he kind of reads the game well and is comfortable in possession but he is just too afraid of going into any contest, Mou should work on his psychology and he might just be the next Ferdinand.

Smalling starter for where? Mourinho clearly stated he was playing Smalling to help his course with regards to being on the plane to Russia. Bailly was left on the bench just so Smalling can play thus his starting games for us isn't hinged on merit but bias from the manager.
