Ok but it seem you are still on Miui 9.5 or so? Why not upgrade to Miui 10 and see if any difference? Attached is what the panel looks like now undecided

Good to know you're well grounded on the Auto brightness thingy grin but have you tried testing the light sensors on the front panel to make sure it's working correctly?

Sincerely speaking, I've used my RN5 under the hottest and brightest Sun light without visibility issues... I might be wrong though undecided

No it can't. I have tried. Plus I'm hoping xiaomi does something about it. That's basically what I typed up there..

Did you see the part where I typed that even at maximum brightness it's still difficult to see? Check unboxing videos on YouTube. The unboxers have complained about the same thing. I think I do sort of understand the concept of automatic brightness fairly enough, I wouldn't be using it if I didn't.

maximum brightness is about 450 nits, flagship phones from Samsung n co reaches about 800 nits in auto brightness when in sun. If you don use flagships b4, its quite obvious that the screen isn't that bright in sunlight. But for 200$ its good enough grin 200$ self no go buy some sammy replacement screen

I take pictures on my Mi A1 and it comes out very well. It was even better than that of someone who took hers with S8+. Knowing what your camera app is made up of and how to use it matters a lot whether it is gcam or stock camera. Like you said, it has a lot to do with the person taking the picture. If you like install gcam or gcam plus, if. The person cannot take good pictures, the pertinent cannot take. No magic there. I'm not a camera person for starters so the stock camera is okay for me. I prefer performance over camera. After all, the YouTube tech reviews we all watch don't install Gcam to take pictures. Like some people rightly said. If you need the best of camera performance go for the flagships. No need to buy a Redmi Note 5 and complain that it doesn't take pictures as well as a Pixel or iPhone X that costs over 4 or 5 times the price. I bought the Note 5 for four of my colleagues at the office as they loved my Mi A1 and none of them have come to complain about the camera. Majority of us are just not satisfied with what we have that all...

Do not discourage people from buying what they desire.

bily:

Yes o! Cos when our phones can take mind blowing pictures, the girls go dey rush us grin tongue

But seriously, I hardly take personal pictures with my phone camera.. It's just for my wife and kids.. And gcam is a bit technical even in usage, so I didn't install it on my wife's phone. She's using her redmi note 5 as it is without any rooting /customisation cos I know she's not tech inclined and she won't be able to handle any issues that may result from tinkering with her phone.

She once asked me to install gcam, I just lied to her...that her phone does not support it. I already have so much to deal with, I don't want to add technical support for her phone to the list grin
She's using her phone and enjoying it. However, anytime we have s family outing, she always wants to take pictures, so we always default to gcam on my phone as the pictures are way better.

Also I think the outcome of pictures also has to do a lot with the person taking the pictures. Pictures I take with her phone is always better than the one she takes.

So those saying redmi note 5 camera is poo are actually doing something wrong.

Billy isn't discouraging them. I'm saying this based on the fact that some people on this thread have rendered the Redmi Note 5 stock camera app useless if you don't use gcam. Even Gcam still comes with technicalities as Billy rightly said. Trust us Nigerians, once someone complains about a device be it camera or battery, we won't buy that device or we won't do research about the Device. I simply buy my device once I've done my research. There is no perfect phone. You can't expect a phone less than $200 to have the best of everything surely there must be some cut corners. Even the flagships have their cons...

Exactly, the truth is most people thrashing the note 5 wouldn't even buy the phone/brand if all we have been doing on this thread is to bad mouth products. Imagine someone asking if the note 5 camera is better than infinix hot 4/5. God help us.

Way to go man! The only issue I have with the camera is when I take shots through an app like Whatsapp, it comes out blurry compared to taking it directly on the phone's camera app.

That's because watsapp compresses picture quality. It's not the fault of the phone, it's watsapp doing it.
