What’s the unnecessary ruse all about? PDP is going to win the election in the state anyway? APC had shot itself in the foot by failing to put its house in order. A house divided against itself shall not stand. It’s downfall will be colossal. Too many disgruntled individuals in apc across the nation

ymedia:
What appeared as last minute efforts by the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to have the governorship candidacy of Hon. Abdul-Kabir Adekunle Akinlade upheld was, on Sunday, suffered a setback as President Muhammadu Buhari was said to have declared that he lacked the power to upturn the decision taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the matter.

Governor Amosun had, on Sunday, led the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Olu of Ilaro and the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and the former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, to allegedly plead with President Buhari, to intervene in the happenings in Ogun APC.

The details of the meeting could not be immediately ascertained, but according to a reliable source, the president made it clear to the delegate that he could not interfere in the party affairs, especially on the decision that had been decided upon and ratified by the NWC.

The source further informed our correspondent that members of the delegation, which met with the president around mid-day, had flown to Abuja around 8.30a.m from Lagos on a chattered flight, to exert their influence on Buhari to prevail on the national leadership of the party, to allow Amosun’s anointed governorship candidate scale through as APC candidate in the state.

This plea, according to the source, was declined by the president, who declared the delegation that intervening in the issue would negate his principle of non interference in party affairs.

Though, as as the time of filing this report, there was no official statement on the reason for the delegate’s visit to Abuja, but the source insisted that the visit was simply to paint Dapo Abiodun as a wrong APC governorship candidate and make case for Akinlade.

Earlier, the campaign organization of Dapo Abiodun, had raised the alarm over an attempt to upturn the victory of Abiodun as the Ogun State APC governorship candidate.

In a statement by the Director of Media of the organisation, Emmanuel Ojo, the organisation claimed it was aware of concluded plans by the state governor to commission two highly revered Paramount Rulers from Ogun State to go and plead with President Buhari not to accept the candidature Abiodun, who according to it remained the valid candidate of the party.

The statement reads in part: “Having failed with so many attempts geared towards legalising illegality, including a botched attempt to get an ex parte order at the Federal High Court Abeokuta, on Friday, October 19, it is quite unfortunate that Governor Amosun is using his position of authority to unduly influence and mobilize respected traditional leaders for such hatched job.

“This act is capable of desecrating the symbol of peace and unity which our traditional leaders stand for and must be widely condemned by concerned citizens of Ogun State at home and abroad.

“Our traditional leaders should not be dragged into this kind of murky politics which is heavily laden with ulterior and selfish motive being singlehandedly pursued by the governor, who is frantically and desperately looking for every possible means to upturn the final decision of party members in the state, and duly ratified by the NWC of our great party.

“We all know that our dear president is a peace loving man whose integrity cannot be compromised. He will not upturn the mandate that had been freely given to Prince Dapo Abiodun by all members of Ogun APC, in a bid to satisfy any personal interest.

“The general public is hereby put on notice, as we call on well-meaning citizens of Ogun State to kindly find out the real reason behind Mr. Governor’s desperate moves to install Hon Akinlade at all cost. It appears there is more to this than meet the eyes.

Buhari is more afraid of Tinubu than Amosun.

Dapo Abiodun is also an ally of Tinubu and he doesn't want to have any issues with him.

I pity those who thinks Buhari has any issues with Tinubu.
One even said Buhari will send Ambode to another party to contest so he can rig it for Ambode to undermine Tinubu.

Crazy opinions everywhere in nairaland.

That being said, I'm not voting for Buhari and definitely not voting for Atiku.

So, Amosun can beg?

Amosun's arrogance is appalling. When he unilaterally wrote the list of party candidates without them winning primaries or anything, he didn't know.

Akinlade is not the only Yewa man on the ballot, GNI too is there. Abiodun is also an APC man. He should pick one of them and support.
Imagine! I was so surprised when I got to know Amosun singlehandedly picked all the candidates for the elective positions in the state. That was way too much! These guys behave like emperors.

APC stakeholders sell Buhari as a principled man of integrity but then approach him with requests to compromise his principles.

In my personal observation I noticed the reason APC is better than PDP is because they conduct their politics at state and local level. PDP on the other hand runs its politics at national level. Those in APC who deviate from this custom and run their politics from Abuja always face crisis and loose out.

I mentioned not long ago how Buhari praised Ambode twice in one week, instructed Governors to use Ambode as a model of team spirit.

Amosun has been running his politics from Abuja all along. He has failed to observe team spirit at state level.

I respect Buhari's judgement on this issue. Amosun should resolve with his people at home.

have you ever seen any oju-ode oba festival turned violent like this before? In the days when business men and technocrats were invited, we all know how those ended well. Now a sitting governor wasn't even present as an indigene of the land while you went to bring a politician that his political stand was very controversial at that time. Shey he has seen what he bargained for? How many top ogun state billionaires did you see there this year like before?

u mean this same Ogun west grin grin even Central sef isn't a lock-down for GNI. anyway we will watch it all play out

From OGD

“The problem of the Ogun West people is in their hands

“Ogun East (Remo and Ijebu) is homogeneous in nature, likewise the Ogun Central. They speak the same language. But the same is not applicable in Ogun West district where we have sub ethnic groups like the Awori, Ketu, Egun, Ohori, Yewa, Eyo, Anago and others.

“Whether we like it or not, the Ogun West people are the minority.

For instance, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area which falls within the purview of the Awori has the largest population, including the voting patterns, than the four other local government areas. And in Ogun West senatorial district, they have five only local government areas.

“Even in Ogun West, Imeko is not considered a full-fledged Yewa town-that it is a minority.

“I could recall when I wanted Prince Gboyega Isiaka to succeed me in office in 2011. Isiaka is from Imeko.

“When I was trying to sell Isiaka to the people of Ogun West, they once asked me ‘how can they now go to Imeko to pick a governorship candidate, without going to Ilaro, which is the administrative headquarters of Ogun West’?

“You need to know where you are and where you are going.

“Go and pray, if God says it would happen in Ogun West, then so be it. There is a popular saying that once an opportunity is lost, it can never be regained, but they can still regain it, if they can work hard and with a lot of prayers,” Daniel stated

Yes! Nigerian Governors are indeed the GREAT PROBLEMS of our country Nigeria.
While the general public erroneously focus on the President and Federal Government, State Governors
conduct themselves as tyrants and dictators worse than Nero and Hitler combined. Were we not all relieved that the
Okorocha/Uche Nwogu nightmare is apparently over.
If we want to own this country , the struggle should start from the various States , against tyrannical State Governors.

Hmm they wanted Oyegun out by force, installed their former colleague, now they are not happy because what they expected isn't happening... Am sure Osibajos comment on traditional rulers being partisan at the Aláàfin of Oyo Birthday celebration was referring to the Aláké because he was already aware of their moves, the Governor playing leader in the State where the Vice President hails from, Dapo Abiodun is from the zoned area in Ogun State the VP hails from the Remo division.. Definitely more reason they can't substitute him for the Yewa person, moreso an ally of jagaban...

That's not the reason.

When Gbenga Daniel wanted Yewa person to succeed him Egbas didn't allow it.

Ogun State is divided into two political blocs for producing Governor and Deputy.

One, Egba / Egbado now Yewa. ( Segun Osoba 2003, Ibikunle Amosun 2019 both Egbas)

Two, Ijebu / Remo. (Bisi Onabanjo 1983 Ijebu, Gbenga Daniel 2011 Remo).

The Egbas (and not the Ijebus / Remos) have been robbing the Yewas the opportunity to be Governor.

If Yewa is allowed to be governor, it will mean 16years of Egba / Yewa.

You may want to ask that it should be on senatorial district.

It's not so in Ogun State.

As said earlier, Ogun State has 4 Divisions (already broken down into 2 political groups) each division has a Paramount Ruler.

Amosun was just trying to be stubborn because he thought his closeness to Buhari will change anything.

Amosun took the chances of Yewa.
