Niksie: It is important that all patients understand how the self-pay packages work since it seems that Visa Officers are either clueless or ill-informed. The discount packages offered by doctors and hospitals is in itself not a discounted payment that the Hospitals and patients receive. It is, in fact, the same amount that Medic-aid and Insurance providers pay the hospitals and doctors. Even though doctors and hospitals charge an excessive amount to insurance companies, and Medic-Aid, these only pay a fraction of the amount billed and no govt funds are used to offset these bills since they are not only not a loss but paid in full upon arrival, unlike US citizens with insurance. For US patients doctors must submit insurance or Medic-Aid documentation which takes time to process and later receive the payment which takes about 1-2 months process. Patients should have knowledge of this information and hopefully, have some kind of document that states this at the moment of their interview. As it is, www.doctoresparati.com (ad on every page of this forum) sends a price schedule with this information included as part of the documentation sent for Visa application and POE. 5 Likes |

you have made valid points... who is to ensure that the visa officers have the right information then? applicants are being denied renewals based on what they (VOs) know/understand currently. Some VOs don't even want to understand your point of view! Vlesparza: |

Niksie: Which is why you must be informed and hopefully the documentation from your hospital or doctor specifies this fact. |

[quote author=demiiii post=72338920]Hello, I will be going to Maryland too. Can you please give me the hospital and doctor you are using. Am leaving November ending. Was planning on changing my ticket to December 2018. @demiii hospitals IN Maryland are very expensive so am opting for Virginia which is quite affordable. Don't have doctor or hospital yet, still searching and comparing 2 Likes |

Hello all, I do hope this shows. Being struggling with how to post on Nairaland. I am a silent follower and I must say this forum has been super helpful. Thank you all. In the spirit of giving back, I want to write my POE experience. I flew Delta Airlines at 30 weeks with my 2 yr old toddler alone. Experience on Delta was great, friendly hostesses and good food. No fit-to fly was asked and they give priority to pregnant women. I got to Atlanta after a very long journey of about 12 hrs and we hovered for about 20 minutes because the CBP officers do not open till 5.30am. The queue was a very long and tedious one considering I had a bump and a cranky toddler to attend to (my advise, make sure you have your stroller with you on the immigration queue if going with a toddler). Fast forward to an hour and half later, I was standing infront of a not too friendly CBP Officer. The conversation below ensued. CBP: Where are you headed to today? Me: Houston CBP: WHat for? Me: Vacation and Childbirth CBP: Why Houston? Me: I have a friend there that we attended College together, I feel she will be able to show me around CBP: Have you been in contact with any Dr. in Houston Me: Yes, I have been in touch with Dr. Fagbohun of Oakbend Medical Center (at this point my toddler was really cranky and crying and rolling on the floor) CBP: Can I see any evidence that you have been in touch with this Dr? Me: Yes. ( I try to search for the document while trying to calm my toddler) CBP: Do you pan on giving me this document today? Me: Yea,my baby is a little cranky. I apologise (I hand him my doctor's correspondence) CBP: (flipping through the correspondence) How do you plan on handling your child with your pregnancy alone, Is your husband coming? Me: Yes, he is coming in a month's time. I can handle my child, thats not a problem. I also plan to get a nanny when I get to heavy CBP: Im not sure you can. You are barely doing a good job right now. Have you contacted nanny services? Me: Im doing a good job. We just got down from a 12hr flight and waited on a queue for 90minutes. He is tired is all. No, I havent contacted nanny services. I will do that once I settle in. (At this point, I was ticked off at the seemingly lack of empathy) CBP: Have you made any prepayments at the hospital? Me: No, just paid to book my appointment. However, I have a cash of $9,000 and more in card CBP: Can I see the money? Me: Bring it out to show him.. CBP: (He doesnt count it, He stamps me and my son in)..Hey maam, I apologise if i crossed the line about you taking care of your son, you just seem overwhelmed and I felt it would be a lot of work for you. All the best maam and safe delivery! Me: (wide grin). Its okay. Thank you! Took a 2hr flight to Houston from Atlanta. Got picked up by my host at the airport. I stay at a place 20 minutes from the hospital. Contacted my hospital and doctor, and now just chilling for LO to arrive. Sorry for the long post, I just really wanted to give back all I could. This forum has been to helpful. All the best mamas! 25 Likes |

Make sure you drink A lot of water air bound. Travel light,a compressor sock is not a bad idea and most importantly walk round the plane. It's nothing extra about it. Mandydaisy: 1 Like |

My poe experience at Houston was a breeze. I give God all the glory. I flew Emirate at 31weeks. Got to the airport and my luggage was weighed. I had 2kg extra i was asked to get another bag to pack the extra 2kg since we are two travelling so I'm entitled to 3bags. I was asked for my fit to fly which I have them. They took it to their supervisor and she confirmed it was ok and I was asked to make photocopy . Thank God I already had some copies with me. The air hostess were amazing. They were all over my 20months old son . shouting cute boy everywhere. They looked for 4 seats roll for both of us to stay on both the Dubai and Houston leg of the flight. They kept giving him adult meal instead of child meal. They gave me lots of juice and water. NOTE: When flying emirate with a child call them 24hrs before your flight to request for a child meal on board else u won't get any food for your child. Fast forward to Houston: I had to request for a wheel chair at the foot of the plane cos i was carrying a sleeping 20months old with hand luggage. I was told I didnt book ahead but a lady there quickly asked them to allow me use one. I kept praying against secondary inspection. Got to front of the CBP officer cos the queue was long 3 flight arrived almost same time. CBP: Passport please Me: dropped mine and my son's American passport CBP: picked my son's passport tried to pronounce his Native name. then he asked me to pronounce it he bursted out laughing that he didnt get it correctly. Me:I just encouraged him that he tried CBP: Why are u here? Me: For child birth and vacation with my son CBP: Oh u are expecting Me: i said Yes CBP: when are u due Me: I told him what I do back home cos i tot thats what he asked CBP: When are u due Me: Oh Dec...... CBP: He said put ur four fingers for biometrics CBP: Do u have food Me: Yes CBP: what kind of food ?Meat? Me :No meat just dry blended stuff CBP: How much cash do u have Me: ..... Dollars CBP: Re-echoed it CBP: Stamped me in till April. As i was going out with my luggage met another CBP officer that kept asking what was in the Ghana must go if its frozen food. I said it baby diaper and other baby things. He kept emphasizing if there is food in the Ghana must go. I said no and he allowed me go. Note my visa expires this month end. No receipt of previous birth checked. Pls when travelling with a toddler alone dont do mature woman request for wheel chair. Cos the queue is usually very long and draining. 13 Likes |
