She can add the 100K yearly since she wants a house of 300K.

House rent is not the only bill oh. There is light, Generator fuel, food, Cable TV, Water, transportation, and savings of at least 8000 every month.

Also remember that by this time next year when rent is due again she may have had a baby, hospital bills plus diapers and If she has CS all will add up and he may not be able to meet up.

You cannot dedicate more than 20- 25 percent of your salary to rent as you won't be able to meet other needs.

Don't let them deceive you with " God will provide" then make you turn beggar or debtor by next year

That's what will actually happen. When op becomes frustrated with bills; wifey will start nagging.

Personally, 80k in this Nigerian economy is too small an amount to even think of marriage. Except he gets a better job, has earnings from other businesses; he may find himself in the vicious cycle of poverty.

My dear is true one need to plan to earn more before marriage but this present economy will not allow, so most time you have to do with what you have to get married, who knows what comes next after marriage. It might be progressive or negative.

Actually, you should have a good idea of the standard of living you want for your family before getting married, regardless of the present economy. Marriage is not an "entitlement " nor is childbirth, it is not by force to get married if you can't afford to.

The fact that you're asking questions about what you cannot afford is already concerning. To get married is easy, just don't let contraception be hard lest you bring kids into an existence filled with financial distress. You need more than N80k in Lagos to raise a family. Let Madam go and find work before you embark on pregnancy. Kids are very expensive and you should be aiming to give them more than your parents gave you. I was going to say don't add to the child poverty crisis but you might be offended and that's not my intent.

Arithmetically, he needs to save 75k for four months to make up on the house rent. He will have just 5k to cater for himself and d family for each of these months.

That marriage may not live up to celebrate its one year anniversary if the man has no other income and goes ahead to rent the house.

Rule is that house rent should not take more than your one month salary.. At most, maybe 2 months salary should tidy rent because in marriage there are unplanned expenditure and challenges that donot give an appointment date until they appear..so its very advisable to the most prudent in marriage..

your rent should not exceed 150k per annum ie almost 2 months salary.

if u pay 300k it means u will work for your landlord for almost 4 months per year

at the first BOLDED, I wouldn't advise any woman to go into marriage without her own money inn Nigeria. your own money (regardless of how little) is your only shock absorber!

At the second bolded, it is called marriage, she should be a support system, support her little stipend and watch her grow! At all at all na winch.

The thing is how many months do you think it’s going to take u to save 300k with your 80K salary?

It’s possible that your wife go get pregnant before she even get work sef and you go end up dancing Azonto and Shaku-Shaku at the same time when massive bills dey Jam YOU.

Honestly 80K monthly as a family MAN is a NO NO NO

Don’t ever let any wife/woman push you cuz you go end up looking like u not capable.

Stay Blessed!

what u have said is good on paper but the reality is that with the Nigeria unemployment situation only very few girls can have a source of income before marriage. most of them get employed after marriage while others start up a biz to support their family.

some even prefer to be house wives just Bleep, born, cook and clean house lol. Very few men will desire such liability in 2018 sha

Not more than 15 to 20% of your yearly salary. Save 40% and use the remaining 40% for recurrent expenditure, running your home and other miscellaneous expenses.
Re: Advice Please by ifycoly: 6:55am On Oct 29, 2018
According to your analysis's approximately N200k should be ok.
