most developed countries built their countries on the back of agriculture, but they would rather have developing countries like Nigeria believe in their entertainment. what we need is not just agriculture but technological advancement in agriculture, it will be an error to continue to use the crude farming practices our forefathers used and want to be able to feed our nation. Also agribusiness is an untapped aspect that the government has refused to improve with their greed and nonchalant attitude. What's the need to farm and toil only for the value of your produce at the game gate not to keep your pocket healthy not to talk of covering cost of running the farm. 1 Like |

until the oil wells dry up, the sense to fully turn to agriculture like in the days of cocoa plantations and groundnut pyramids is still far fetched 2 Likes |

I love agriculture... but any youth that think he can make it through agriculture in this Nigeria is destined for poverty... labour is expensive... fertilizer expensive.... special seed expensive..... clothes expensive........ balanced diet very expensive.. no light........... irrigation very expensive..... no way for crop preservation.... the money you make from agriculture in a year, others in businesses make it in a day... at the end of the day, you still sell the produce to business persons at a very cheap price, they will hike the price and sell at exorbitant prices making more profit than the Farmer. 1 Like |

Without revamping our dilapidated infrastructure we are just kidding ourselves- how would we store the produce - electricity How would we move our produce - good roads And how would we add value to the chain - goog marketing and innovation skills - good schools Fix the infrastructure and we are almost there. |

deedy111:That is because we are still farming like the old ways. Just like we have outdated curriculum for schools, you think that's coincidence? Nah. Access to market, transportation, constant training and research aren't there. But the govt want people to just go and farm like it is 1914. We haven't talked about insurance...what do you think will happen if a farmer loses his farm produce to flood? This things aren't hard but the Govt makes it look like rocket science. 1 Like |

deedy111: Who told you farming are not felt by real farmers? Most of those trucks transporting perishable goods to the south are mostly owned by farmers from the north. If you think farming is a short time thing that you make it big in a year then you are you are on a long thing. It has to a systematic way and with a lot of patient. People who are rich today through farming apply several methods to rich where they are today not through one Disney land like fantasy. |
