The Federal Government has made it known it was not in support of the N22,500 minimum wage proposed by the Nigeria Governors Forum.

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, made the stance of the Federal Government known on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

He said, “The governors have not even done enough. I told them that this N22,500 was even rejected by the Federal Government,” he said.

The NGF had stated that they were capable of paying Nigerian workers N22,500 as the new minimum wage as against the current N18,000.

This is lower than the N30,000 proposed by labour.

Ngige added, “The national minimum wage is a national legislation being driven by the Federal Government of Nigeria in pursuance to item 34 of the Exclusive Legislative list.”

We are on 18 and many of them are finding it difficult to pay, talk more of 22,500..

With all fairness, my suggestion is that the labour should just agree with them on this 22500, even though its implementation is in the hands of God.

What's the difference between that and the 24k the Federal itself want to pay?
30k is not too much as a minimum wage considering the stupid money our olodo public officials collect.

Setting and enforcing is the federal government job. The federal government just doesn't enforce this issue hence why people are owed. It can be argued that this should be left to states to figure out. Until then this law.

this is the very reason why they should never be elected into office in the first place.

Any government that owes its workers salary shouldn't even think about contesting for election.
