These ranking are completely useless. For instance if you apply them to 1991 Iraqi military, the US coalition would have lost GW1, the Iraqi army would have rolled over ISIS in 3 weeks in 2016 and the Saudi Army would have decimated the Houthis in about 30 minutes. You cannot look at militaries in a vacuum and come to a conclusion as to its warfighting capability. Do these nr. relate to military and political leadership and decision making ? Do commanders have free reign to plan/execute battles at a tactical level or is there political interference? Does the gov. have the general support of its population (nationalism) or are you dragging oppressed citizens kicking and screaming into a conflict they have no appetite for? Equipment and troop readiness? Are they well paid with high morale and esprit de corps ? Professional or conscript army ? Military age fighting population ? Do they regularly train at Bn./Div. level exercises in combined arms formations ? Industrial and engineering capability that can be converted expanded to war production? Is the gov (military) funded by a large and healthy tax base that can be expanded during wartime ? Or is it funded by a resource based economy that can be blockaded/sanctioned ? Does the country have diplomatic power and alliances with major powers ? etc.etc.etc If you want to judge a country's ability to fight a war you've better of reading some history books than Janes Defence weekly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CCp5g4Zki8 Slightly off topic; review of the SCAR H by former navy seals. Probably explains why Uncle Sam has been extremely generous to KDF with their free toys.[/quote Wow! The KDF field reports are ALL POSITIVE! Firstly the weight he complains about is from all the tactical addons;the laser,'scope and grip. He actually liked the ambidextrous nature but moans about the charging handle being on the left(!?). Ofc 7.62 NATO is heavy but a SEAL frankly shouldn't cry about only a mere 140 round loadout. Its too big for FIBUA but different tools for different tasks: you don't take a Formula 1 racer on a Kruger/Serengeti game drive or a Land Cruiser VX to Monte Carlo/Kyalami circuit. I do know its as accurate as he claims but what steel core ammo was this jamming? It feeds FMJs,JHPs and RNs as easily as a G3 or FN. Also did he adjust the gas regulator piston shown here causing fouling? Also,AFAIK,they were all paid for not gifted.

bidexiii:Well was actually just trying to point out that cosmetic enhancements are in fact upgrades be it minor or quite substantial as in this case.......When you start upgrading the actual firing system then what you are in fact doing is creating an entirely different rifle. I think the above was what Henry240 was trying to point out. |

Algerian1:All modern fighters come equipped with Data links to share information between them Link 16 being the standard Data link in US exported fighters and TKS-2/R-098 for Sukhoi fighters , even our Gripen came with SAABs own Data Link although we use Link ZA instead. What I'm talking about is a Defence wide tacticle Data link(Not just Data links used on air platforms), one were information can be shared by all platforms be it air to air, air to ground and ground to ground......Something like Link 22 or Link 16( not reduced to air platforms only). |

https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/10NAIROBI9_a.html As regards funding and equipment , the Kenya Special Operations Force(KSOF)/Ranger Strike Force ( including elements of the 20th parachute batallion) are the only units that use the SCAR H. The article shows that they were initially trained, mentored and equipped by Uncle Sam. The total investment from section 1206 funding has been 40 million USD for the Ranger Strike force. Section 1206 grants the Secretary of Defense the authority to train and equip foreign military forces. https://web.archive.org/web/20110708231354/https://www.conferences.state.gov/RM/programevaluation2011/Related%20Documents/Defense%20Workshops/3Ds%20in%20Nairobi%20-%20An%20overview%20of%20diplomacy%2C%20development%2C%20and%20defense%20at%20the%20U.S.%20Mission%2C%20Nairobi%2C%20Kenya.pdf 1 Like |

EMW01: Hmmm....my own info is that its the M4 which was initially problematic. It would fire the first mag perfectly but jam on the second. It seemed to be an issue with the feed lips;the vibration would cause failure to feed. A KAFTEC student figured out the prob and did an adjustment which AFAIK is now standard for all M4s. Btw,quite a few of the first KDF KIAs 2011-2012 WERE CAUSED BY THIS ISSUE. |

Which is why I rmbr this Chechnya MI 26 shootdown with pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtFIlfq65wY Sorry! Couldn't find a better vid-they lost an entire coy! It actually survived the missile but landed in a minefield. Ofc,your brass is better than risking a huge ,slow platform in an active war theatre, though. |

Algerian1,what do you know of the Sahrawi war between Polisario and Morocco? I only know its over the iron and phosphate rich W Sahara occupied by Morocco and the war began in 1975 til 91. We've always supported them and they have a Nairobi embassy and actually I'm embarrassed to say I know nothing more! The last are Sahrawi rebels.
