Biafra invaded the Mid-West Region/State and
Ojukwu even appointed an Igbo Administrator over them, a grave error that tiltled the delicate balance of power against the Biafrans.

How can Biafra be said to invade Mid-west, when mid-west was part and parcel of Nigeria that invaded Biafra by providing Nigerian Army with fresh soldiers via mass recruitment?

How could Ojukwu have appointed an Igbo man over them? Are you now saying that the Anioma man Albert Okonkwo who was made the administrator of the new country isn't qualified to rule his region?
Remember that another Anioma son, Dennis Osadebey was a democratic elected premier of the Midwestern region, before Ironsi overthrew him and foisted the Urhobo man Ejoor on the region, why didn't the Edos and Edoid cry over removal of Osadebey? What right do they have to cry over removal of Ejoor and re instatement of an Anioma man as the administor of the region, when we all know that without Nzeogwu madness, An Anioma son would have still become the leader of the region?

Also, it's funny how we are told that there are no Igbos outside SE when it fits your narratives and same time, quickly told that Anioma and other Igboids are Igbos when doing so helps your Igbophobic agenda. Really interesting.

Please read Prof China Achebe's There was a Country and Olusegun Obasanjo's My Command, you will see that the Midwest was indeed invaded but the stated motives of that invasion may differ.

Neither the Oba of Benin nor Gov David Ejoor of The Midwest invited Biafra to invade their State.

Maybe not oba or Ejoor but definitely Midwesterners. Probably the revolutionaries among them.

Good and cerebral suggestions but WHO will implement all these?

Purehuman:
The western world is reaping the fruits of empowering the younger generation with skills that will keep making them competitive in the next generations. Bill gates, Jeff bezos, Paul Allen, etc are evident in our eyes today. We have been selling clothes even before Zara own it's first store. We are still stuck in the last generation with no end in sight. We have refused to do better than our fathers. Our fathers with the little education and information they had built a system that spread wealth in the pockets of millions of igbos today.

The wealth created through learning trade. This method of creating wealth has made many of our families rich and stable and unfazed with the present economic situation in the country. We have refused to understudy this system. Worst of all, we are killing the system by employing secondary school graduate on 15k monthly salary to learn the trade. This has made the spread of wealth stalled and it will have a devastating effect in the coming years.

Why will it become a problem? Education in Nigeria today do not make us self-sufficient rather it makes us more dependent on the government like other regions. We have been able to manage bad governance by not being dependent on the government. If we stop this method of wealth transfer, we will suffer a very strong blow in the coming years.

What options do we have now to avert the incoming problems we may start facing in the future? I can only give two:

1. Modify the present system: Since the economic situation and the perceived monopoly of commerce in the country by our people is becoming watered by the emergence of many players and bigger players. The government should be able to assist traders in opening a bigger markets that can whittle down the influence of bigger players who has seen the lucrativeness of this sector and wanting to take it from us. More monies should be in the pockets of traders through the creation of strategic microfinance banks. The design of our markets needs to be upgraded so that heavier products and bulkier products can be sold easily. We should embrace the internet because more products are flying through mail than going the the stress of traveling. We should incorporate online market system in the new design of our major markets in the east. Traders should be retaught about the importance of learning a trade and paying the students to keep the system going because standing alone will kill the sector we dominate.

2. Radical Change of our educational system: The present educational system we are practising in the east will make us poor next 20years. We will have knowledge but will not be able to produce nor practice with it. Our methodologies needs to be overhauled with new and innovative reasoning. Humans are like products. We need to produce real humans with content and not tabula raza. It should be noted that if Nigeria needs programmers, it should be coming from the east. If Nigeria needs the best neurologist, it should come from the east. If Nigeria needs the best civil engineers, it should come from the east. Our educational system should inculcate a level of real practical that can make a secondary school leaver capable of feeding himself from the knowledge gathered in his six years of study in the school. We shouldn't disregard many of these knowledge. Things they could have learned while in secondary school are many and we could design these things to help them in the future. Our university graduates should be experts in their field and not starter packs. It is through developing human contents that we can develop other areas of the economy.

If we handle our commercial and educational comparative advantage well enough, we will be able to keep all the economies of other states in the region on lockdown. We will be ruling their economies by proxy. We will not be able to be contained. For example, as we are having a filled market in Onitsha. Onitsha market management would have as a result of these understudy the population of people coming into the market to get products and ascertain the state the highest number of customers are coming from and create another cluster point by building another market mall there. This will increase sales, increase overall presence and create ease of doing business in Onitsha and other markets in the east. We will continue creating an imposing presence in the states and it will be difficult for us to be neglected.

While building a real educational system will help us is that, many of the projects we love to give to the Chinese could have been done better by our people with more love in their hearts than what we are seeing today. We could have built a working technological advanced system that will solve problems all over west Africa and the world.

Norway, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Holland, Australia, Switzerland and the rest are having shortage of skilled manpower. If we key into the shortage human capital in these countries, we might be able to solve it for them. Our people will gain from the improved pay and better system and migrate to such areas. This will reduce unemployment in the region.

There are many other things we can do but let me stop here and let other people bring better ideas.

We find ourselves stuck in this present rut, not for want of imaginative and pragmatic suggestions on how to move the region forward, but because of the mediocre and visionless leaders we have governing our states who appear to be incapable of thinking outside the box and bringing said ideas to fruition!

But this is just half of the problem; the other half has to do with being part of an unwieldy and fractured political-economy that foists medieval-minded, semi-illiterates on everyone else in the name of 'one Nigeria'! This wouldn't have been much of an issue if it wasn't for the fact that said undesirables have us in their sights....they're on a mission to marginalise, cheat and hold Ndigbo down while they and their regions try to steal an unmerited advantage over us!

You are replying from a fixed mindset which makes it difficult for you to view things from other (and equally valid) perspectives.

It was difficult for the Midwesterners to accept that the 'President of Biafra', Gen Ojukwu appointed a Governor over them after Biafrans forces have invaded their State and sacked their Government.

In a similar way, it was difficult for Ukpabi Asika, whom Gen Gowon had appointed to function as the Administrator of East Central State in Enugu, rather he was 'ruling' from Lagos, then moved to P/Harcourt towards the end of the war before finally moving to Enugu.

Till today, many igbos hate Ukpabi Asika for accepting the appointment.

The problems isn't much of 'the other peoples' but largely within.

The States won't develop to their maximum potentials in as much as they still laregely depend on 'Federal allocations' from the Abuja.

How can Kwara, Ekiti, Anambra,Abia, Benue or Zamfara run their 2019-2023 budgets if there is no more Federal allocations?

These are the pertinent questions that Nazi Nnamdi KANU and IPOB don't bother to answer.

But it was okay for mid-westerners to accept Ejoor that was installed by Ironsi, after ransacking Democratically elected Dennis Osadebey, okwaya?

Your Asika example makes no sense. We were not Nigerians, we were Biafrans, and we never accepted the division of our region by Gowon, let alone his appointments.

If Mid-west were neutral as you claim, then they should have had no problem with Ojukwu decision to make them independent of Nigeria and Biafra, by giving them a country of their own and appointing one of them, Dr Albert Okonkwo, to govern them.

Whomever ojukwu would have appointed would have been seen as a traitor to the midwest and an extension of ojukwu.
I don't know the origin of the guy ojukwu appointed but, so long he went along with ojuku's invasion of the midwest and was even appointed by ojukwu, the guy was either not from the midwest either he was a filthy traitor.

That suspicion wasn't about Midwest Igbo's participation (a Mid-West Igbo was already the first Premier of the Region) but against Ojukwu's motives.
This served as an impetus for majority of the peoples of the Mid-West and Western Regions to rally round and supported the Federal side.Prior to the invasion, they were neutral.

With that invasion, the international communities started seeing the Biafra struggles as 'bands of militants/rebels' who wanted to overthrow the Government of Nigeria

If Ojukwu had driven out the Federal forces from Biafra and manned the borders effectively to ward off possible attacks from the Federal forces, many international powers would have sided Biafra or remain neutral.

It's was War period,, hardly time for elections. Dr Albert Okonkwo is not a "someone" , he was a bona-fide indigene of Mid-west .
If you had no problem with Ironsi sacking Osadebey and replacing him with Ejoor, why should you have a problem with Ejoor being replaced by Osadebey fellow Anioma brother, Dr Albert Okonkwo? Is your head not touching? It wasn't Urhobo imposition on mid-west when Ironsi removed Osadebey and replaced him with an Urhobo man, but it became Igbo imposition immediately the Urhobo man was replaced with an Anioma man, are you listening to yourself?

By motives, you meant his appointment of an Anioma man as the temporary administor of the region, rather than an Edo or Edoid man, right?

By the war, there was nothing neutral about Mid West.
Mid-west delegates came to Aburi accord as part of the Nigerian contingent. Enahoro was key part of Gowon cabinet and Akenzua featured prominently too.
Nigerian Army recruited many Mid-westerners for the amphibious attack of Biafra via Ph.
Ejoor was with Gowon all through, which was why Ojukwu had to replace him.

Mid-west neutrality is a myth that can never stand the scrutiny of facts.

Before and after the invasion, there were several individual Civil servants (like Prince Solomon Akenzua ,Philip Asiodu and some super perm secs) and military officers from the Mid-West that were in support of the Federal side and there were many individuals (Nzeogwu, Achuzua etc) that were in support of Biafra but the majority were still neutral as at 1967 before the invasion.

Invasion of their homeland triggered an uncommon sense of patriotism and the need to join the Federal side to evict the invaders...Whether the invaders had a noble or ignoble intention is a different kettle of fish.
