Nearly 60 years after independence from colonial rule, why do our lawyers still wear these things on their heads?

Is it that we cannot devise a home-grown attire for our lawyers, or is it that we so love the colonial rulers and exploiters of our land, that we just cannot let go of their legacy?

Did somebody do juju on us to turn us into mumus where the colonialists are concerned?

India, Pakistan, and parts of China were colonised by the British. But their legal systems have jettisoned those colonial wigs ages ago.

In Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and other ex-colonies, still continue to wear them.

What is wrong with us as a people?

Seriously, we need to approach our ancestors for forgiveness, in case we did something to them that made them place a curse on us, that has turned us into dumb mumus without basic common sense and dignity, especially where it concerns Europeans.

Imagine for a second how the white people will be laughing their heads off when they see us wearing these things, a full sixty years after independence.

It's truly disgusting.

we still practice law law thought by them.It is their system. How times have heard lawyers when arguing a case reffering to case ruled in england years.Reyland vs fletcher Solomon vs Solomon. No matter how much we think we have freed from the yoke of colonialism it is sad that in reality that isn't true.A country like Ethiopia that was never colonised may find it easier to run their systems without import from any other country. It also depents On the way you look at it,for example a young graduate from college who has been studying law and growing knowing that one day I will put on that wig so to him or her it will be fulfilling once he or she finally does that.In other words it is a symbol. If we must do away with this we must also do away with military badges and symbols.

Why do we have a white wedding?
Why don't we kill still our twins?
Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Why don't we bury 12 servants with our dead kings?
Why do we use motor vehicles?
Why don't we just teleport (ofe) instead of being stuck in traffic?

Lawyers in Nigeria are suffering from mental slavery. They borrowed the wig from the English. Now in England lawyers don't wear wigs to court in civil cases but in Nigeria the mumu practice still continues. What tradition are Nigerian lawyers following? Almost everything is bastardised in the legal profession today. Ha, nigeria! Questionable characters are appointed to judicial positions. Look at the way they are dishing out SAN to their children! SANship is now virtually meaningless, no wonder Ghanaians abolished its equivalent in their country.

There is nothing wrong with this attire it's not as if they wear it forever! It's a uniform!

It makes them look professional. Are the lawyers complaining or is this another conspiracy to make hijab formal

We have more pressing issues and you are talking about wig undecided

But bro why do you wear shirts, T shirt and suits (if you do) which are English wears? and not only native attires. Sometimes we over dramatize things.

Nice observation OP but I think we can only copy and paste. We've not been lucky enough to have leaders that are futuristic in thinking and can evolve past pre colonial ways. If u see some lawyers wigs sef, na like overused sponge.
