Hi Nairalanders, permit me to share these 5 simple PHONE LANGUAGE we misuse daily, could be of help to someone.

(1) Do not say: "I saw your missed call".
...Say: "I missed your call".

(2) Do not say: "Your voice is cracking".
...Say: 'The line is breaking".

(3) Do not say: "Flash me".
...Say: "Give me a drop-call, beep me, or give me a beep".

(4) Do not say: "I am hearing you".
...Say: "I can hear you".

(5) Do not say: "Come again".
...Say: "I can't hear you".

Note: Etymologically, the word 'telephone' comes from Latin and Greek.
'Tele' in Latin means 'distance' and 'phone' in Greek means 'sound'. So, the compound word becomes
'distance sound' -TELEPHONE.
°Now you know better.

Interesting. The I saw your missed calls is so rampant.I guess it has to do with we trying to translate our local dialect to English language.

We are so wired to the number 3 here in Nigeria. Even if we say it the way you claimed is the correct one which is "give me a drop-call, beep me, or give me a beep."

The person will still say "what do you mean? I can't get you..." and we would have no choice than to go back to the factory settings which is " I said, flash me when you see your period...."

thanx anyways.

Replace the "I missed your call" to " I saw your flash" . Some missed calls are not really missed calls grin

Do you where the problem lies? When you decode to use these statements as it suppose to be you will still have to explain yourself using the contemporary statements

So if I say I'll phone you, it means I'll sound you. And if I say I will sound you in Nigeria, it means I will slap you.
Sense will not kill me
