Madriel: Birth center delivery is frowned at by Visa officers. The only condition I would advice the use of a birth center is if you got the visa for that purpose, in other words, you told the visa officer that you plant to use a birth center and they went ahead and still gave you the visa |

Hello house and thank you for all the detailed accounts given, its taken days to go through all the threads but the time spent doing so was worth it! On to my peculiar situation: Currently a FTM planning to birth in the US and still have a valid B1/B2 visa that was issued while I was working outside Nigeria. I am back in Nigeria now by the way. LO is due early may but visa expires end of may. Can any one advise on the best option for visa application, if to apply with DH (his first time, I have been to the US before) and if to buy a return ticket beyond visa validity? So please pardon me and my many questions 1.To have LO, do I...: a. Apply for dropbox - same B1/B2 - and declare medical tourism reason at POE? (risking this Trump immigration change atmosphere influencing a possible denial) b. Apply for B2 and pray all goes well at interview c. Go to US on current visa and declare at POE that it's for birthing reasons - not sure if they will stamp me in beyond the visa validity - then apply for an extension while still in the US d. Please advise! 2. When would be a good time to apply since I still have more than 6 months left on the current visa? The next interview date is in March and I am not sure if it will be dropbox or interview so trying to play safe. 3. Do I mention that DH will be accompanying me or not? He actually will not come until much later. 4. Is it possible to apply for a visa renewal from within the US? Any first hand experience with this type of situation would be a huge help. Thank you my fellow nairalanders! |

Hello Every one, av been here for 2 days now and find it very interesting as i want to birth in US next year. Please i need to ask a question that i have been worried about and i will love to get suggestions. 1. in filling my form, for contact person in the US should i use my Doctors Contact or the Contact of the Person i will be staying with? i and my Husband are not related to the person i will be staying with, though she is a very close friend of his Dad. 2. If i use her as my contact person, what relationship should i put?. Though he calls her Aunty and she is really not, should i still say that she is my Husband Aunty or My Aunty. 3. i actually have an uncle( Mothers Brother ) in the US as well. But he Told me to use his wife and not him since she is employed and her is not. should i use my Uncles Wife and put Relationship as Uncles Wife or as Just Aunty?.. Please i really need help will be submitting it tomorrow. Thanks. |

Hi, I'll answer just one question. If your visa is still valid when you will travel you don't have to renew. You will be stamped in for 6 months. youngette: |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Vlesparza: 4:32pm On Nov 07, 2018 |
Madriel: This is a bit tricky since some clinics use the name birth center or maternity center as a description of the service they provide, such as the case of Obstetric Physicians/Clinics. What is important is that the place you contact provides the services with doctors and the baby is delivered at a hospital/medical center. The clinic/doctor's office, where the prenatal consultations take place is different from the hospital/medical center, where the delivery will be. You need a doctor (clinic) and you need to know what hospitals/medical centers the doctor (obgyn) is listed or 'has privileges". |

youngette: Someone has answered you already but let me iterate more. No need to renew your visa if you are going before expiry date because even if you have only one day left and you are in US , you would be stamped in for six month. My advise for you is just to write letter of change of intent to embassy if the VISA in your hand is not stated for childbirth. 2 Likes |

nwadikechi: Firstly you do not qualify for dropbox cos ur 1st visa wasn't issued in Nigeria. Then put visa validity and expiration on the search box u will see people with similar visa issue and what was the advice the got and what they did eventually. 1 Like |

[quote author=Chanbaby post=72768892] Firstly you do not qualify for dropbox cos ur 1st visa wasn't issued in Nigeria. In addition to this, I'll advise you use your uncle's wife. The relationship is more explicit. Also refer to her as your "Aunt". (Even if your uncle was employee, I don't think your surnames will be the same.) The purpose of the address is in case you need to be contacted. Hospital contact will not suffice, you don't live there, and will not always be there. Also, a resident with a *definite address has to be responsible for you. 1 Like |

Thanks for your replies this far. To clarify my question; I already have a valid visa. I got it at a time when I was not pregnant. I actually want to do the water birth and it's only available at birth centers. Has anyone had their baby at a birth centre? What do I expect at Poe? I plan to pay ahead of time. |

Dear House, Please help. Can the notary at the US embassy be done before the birth of the baby? Or must it be after the birth of the baby? Would they need the baby's birth date of birth during the Notary process at the embassy? Your urgent reaponse will be highly appreciated. Thank u |

Good day All, first post(apologies for the long post). i have traveled numerous times to the UK in the past 15 years or so. and i schooled in the UK(Masters degree)also been back and forth on work training .my first attempt at a USA Visa was successful when i applied for a B1/B2 in the year 2015( i was never asked if i was pregnant). I found out after that i was pregnant and decided to have my baby in the USA. I asked about changing my visa to a medical one and was told it covers for medical. i was advised to send a change of intent letter. i did and proceeded to the USA. At the point of entry even before i was asked i declared my intention and was sent to secondary inspection. that took less than 5 minutes. the officer asked me for the bill and how much i had with me. i told them the bill (hospital and doctor )which amounted to about 6000+ dollars. the officer was surprised at the total and i reminded him that i was self pay and so got huge discounts he laughed, agreed, stamped me in wishing me a safe delivery. fast forward to 2017 it was time for renewal so i opted for drop box. less than a week i was called and immediately handed a 212g and asked to show up for a follow up interview. when i got there i greeted, got no response the lady had a very stern expression and demanded to see my hospital bill which i presented (the bill was from Atlanta) she barely looked at the paper and said no way will you get childbirth for 3200. i explained that it was self pay. she asked for my doctor bill which was about 3000 and was OK with it. she now said if i cant prove that it was self pay she wont grant the application. on my zero bill it showed the adjustments. i now begged please if you don't believe me can you call or investigate. i think this annoyed her further because she snapped and said it wasn't part of her job. and shouted NEXT! fast forward to 2018 this time my main purpose was family visit with my kids (the first i had in the UK as a student, the 2nd i had here in Nigeria and the last i had in the USA)my husband couldn't join us because he had work commitments. this time i got another zero balance saying fee was adjusted from hospital. as soon as i got there another very stern reception. he asked if all my kids were present i said the last one is a US citizen so needs no visa so i came with those needing visa. he asked where i worked and where i was going. i told him. that was it! the next thing he said was that i wasn't qualified. HAH!. i was qualified before what has disqualified me?? They didn't ask for my zero balance which i believed to be the reason for my refusal the last time. I have a clean travel history i truly paid all my bills and rigidly forced the doctors and hospital to hand them over before leaving the USA i have never taken any govt aid and always advised people against it could i have taken my Son to interview to prove i didn't leave him in the USA? Just confused and hurt and i also noticed that all my friends who previously had kids in the USA around that time were all refused renewals. i have been honest in my application and for me to be refused twice in a row after initially getting a visa is quite depressing. have i been marked to never get visa? is there a way i can find out reasons for my repeated refusals? as i plan to apply early next year again. HOUSE PLEASE HELP. |

toyeengbemi: That section in bold is the problem, though not your fault but its insane to spend that little while American citizens pay far more than that. |
