Hello house,
This post is about Nigerian Midwives who wish to apply to and work as a Registered midwife in New Zealand.
It is strictly for holders of Basic Midwifery certificate. That is, you studied Midwifery for 3yeara and got registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
You must have worked for at least 3 years.
New Zealand offers good opportunuties for foreign midwives. A newly employed midwife in New Zealand earns 47000 New Zealand dollar per year. That's about 11,600,000 naira.
I will give a step by step procedure
1. Complete a three years Basic Midwifery study and get registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
2. Get a valid (not expired) international passport ready. This cost around 25,000 naira from any immigration office near you.
2. At this point I advise you open a dollar account in any Nigerian bank so you can easily pay for your application and registration fee to New Zealand Midwifery Council. Don't panic. Its not difficult to open. Just go to aboki buy US$10 with 3500 naira. Go with your intl passport, electricity bill, 2 passport photographs to FCMB bank and they will do it for you. When you are ready to apply to New Zealand Midwifery Council, you must buy dollar from aboki and pay into this account to cover the amount you want to pay to New Zealand Midwifery Council. You need this because you can't pay to New Zealand Midwifery Council with your naira atm card.
3. Log in to
www.midwiferycouncil.health.nz/midwives/becoming-registered-practise/internationally-qualified-midwives-application-guidelines to study the guidelines.
4. With your valid valid license and intl passport ready and your dollar account funded with at least US$200, you Log in to www.midwiferycouncil.health.nz and create an account in their website. You will be given a username and password which you will need to Log in anytime. Click on 'Apply' and select 'Oversea' and fill the form.
Select 'Assessment fee'. This is because your documents will be assessed first before proper registration. Assessment fee is 250 New Zealand dollar, about 62,000 naira.
On payment option, select credit card and fill in the details on your dollar account atm card.
If they confirm your credentials to be true, they will give you decision letter to pay for your registration and license. This cost 750 New Zealand dollar, about 186,000 naira.

I think UK nurses are well paid, but UK is not filled with much opportunities for nurses like US. US on the other hand is filled with various options, opportunities and specialties for nurses to choose from, but i think the main problem is the new Trump's immigration policies. Well, Canada may not be as interesting as the other two but I guess the pay over there can be quite cool, but another thing is language issue in case you're not familiar with French.

If your plan is to leave as soon as possible,I will suggest you go for UK,the process is fast and easy.,with agencies willing to assist.most agencies for US are now doing shakara.
From UK you cab pursue US or Canada, those are expensive and more tideous.

Infact, thats why many are rushing into the profession. Lol. Many of them think once you finish. U would just land the abroad job without exams.
Im just looking at them. Yea, Nigeria is bad for every profession. If I Can't migrate, I would ultimately look for lecturing work. Can't do the shit they call nursing work in Nigeria, much more, as a guy.
Re: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by MamaTheMama: 1:36pm On Nov 09, 2018
wow, are you indeed a nurse, that you call your profession a poo.True, nurses are under valued in the Nigerian society, yet you are suppose to be proud of what you do. I tell people nursing is lucrative, but if you are in it for money, then you will only end up frustrated and intimidated. It is always such nurses that start superiority war with doctors. Nurses are unique and not on the same league with doctors because we are higher intellectually, morally and socially. Nurses ashould never feel they are lesser than doctors or act as a doctor or wannabe a medical doctor. Do you ever see a doctor act like a nurse? I bet no. When you are unique and true to your profession, people will respect and honour you. Whether your pay is low or not, being a nurse alone should make you feel like a king, because nurses are Kings. Wear your profession like a royal regalia, and see many bow at your feet. Make other medical professionals jealous of you that they wanna be like you. When you speak, speak with knowledge, and see your words taken as authority; when you act, act skillfully and professionally that othersuse you as a yardstick in their doings. My greatest reward so far as a nurse, is when I look into my client's eyes and I see the appreciation/ gratitude, then I know I have made a difference in someone's life. Ask yourself, what do you achieve at the end of each shift you take, what difference have you made in your patient's life on your shift, other than, medication administered, I/O monitored, report and handover notes written?
All these abroad nursing, we are all aspiring to do, is built on the fundamental principles of simple empathy, autonomy, benevolence, knowledge and skills. As a qualified nurse in Nigeria, what have you brought to the table? I AM A PROUD NURSE AND WILL BE A NURSE AGAIN AND AGAIN IN ANOTHER LIFETIME. Goodluck to us all in our search for greener pasture, but Nursing is never a poo, even in Nigeria.

Wow! That's a great deal of temper right there. I totally understand what you said. It's only in Nigeria that you'll see a RN beefing another nurse just because the nurse has a BNSC certificate or a matron seeing a BNSC student as a competition or a threat. And we're complaining nursing in Nigeria is not moving forward. That's a poo indeed.

AjaoSandra:
Texas Board of Nursing actually sends you the standard FBI print cards 10 and a few more days after your application reaches them, You then enroll with identogo as an international candidate, to have the cards submitted to their mail after you have taken the prints with the law enforcement agent here in Naija, TEXAS BON have an exclusive contract with 'em .....cost of enrollment with them is 37dollars..... Then about the verification of your secondary school cert with cgfns for those applying with Texas, all they need is your sec school diploma, notarized copy of your WAEC result and testimonial should do that..... Recent updates from my end, as I progress through, would drop Info here for those pursing Texas too......lets help each other

Nursing in Nigeria is shit! I woyld never practice except the compulsory internship. I said what I said, you cannot change my opinion and never did I say I was un proud of my profession. Nigeria is shit, everything is shitty. Abeg.

Lol, nursing in the US is much better than Nigeria but it’s not a bed of roses here either especially bedside nursing. In my area, there is massive turn over rate with nurses.

Why do u always advice people against nursing and US in general?

Nope, read my previous posts, never advised anybody against moving to the US or nursing if it was feasible for them. Just giving realities. Life is not a bed of roses , no matter where you are.

Hello,

although your question wasn't directed at me specifically but I could be of help if wouldn't mind. U don't have to pay another money to Nursing Council of Nigeria for another verification, the one with CGFNS will suffice. And if I got you right, u said your CES report has already been issued by CGFNS, if that's the case, all u need to do now is to wait for TBON to send u ATT, u don't even need to contact them for that, they will do the needful.

I hope that helps!

Hello Barbiee,

Thank you for this. I just got my CES report from CGFNS and i registered for Texas, now i don't know what step to follow, a colleague of mine said i have to register with Texas board of nursing and get my finger print ready which i am aware of but she said that i have to pay another money to Nursing council Nigeria for another Verification and that is not sitting pretty with me, kindly advise on what to do. I thought CGFNS already has that(verification)

Thank you.
