As at December 2017, Ortom already knew that Benue people will not vote for him so he deployed another strategy which took effect from the 1st of January 2018. He used his own people to attack his own people who live in farm settlements and immediately won the heart of the people through crocodile tears and the staged drama called 'homeland defense'. Alot of people fell for it and he immediately started paying this year's salary while pretending not to know that he owes them for several months.

Let me say this here, Benue was ONLY attacked by Fulani herdsmen once in 2016( That was the Agatu attack) and his response and tone was different. He told the Idomas(agatu is part of Idoma) to accept the herdsmen as their brothers and they should co-habit in peace.

Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, says since he dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has been paying workers their salaries.

According to the governor, godfatherism in APC did not allow him to be a free man.

He stated this while swearing in nine commissioners in Makurdi, the state capital.

He said since he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he had become free to pay salaries.
