Check out the world tourism ranking, you will see we trashed them in both categories of most visited destination by INTERNATIONAL tourist arrivals in Africa and international tourism receipt (revenue from tourism) in Africa.

Don't believe these lying Kenyans here. grin

Kenya is not in the top 10 most visited destination by international tourist. grin

They managed to make the top ten of money made through tourism but we still beat dem wella. grin

I think you are mistaken. A lot of clowns here have given up and resorted to teenage shenanigans and instigation. We all know them. Kenyans only have problems with Nigerians. The Tanzanian is a domestic issue which will be solved.

Kenya is the regional hub and economic powerhouse of eastern and central Africa then followed by Ethiopia in which the range is slightly narrow.
Kenya's economy is the 7th largest in Africa after the top seven mineral dependent economies.

Mineral dependant economies you say ? I'm guessing if we didn't have minerals your economy would be better than us ?.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

Basic statistics

Although once dominant, mining and quarrying now account for only 8% of South African gross domestic product (GDP). Since the middle of the last century the relative contributions of agriculture and manufacturing have also shrunk, while those of other sectors have grown. Finance at 20% is now the biggest sector, followed by government at 17%.

Mining accounts for 11% of gross fixed capital formation, but also for 16% of all foreign direct investment in South Africa. The industry accounts for only 0.3% of corporate taxpayers, but they were responsible for 6% of tax assessed in 2014. Although mining employs almost half a million people, this is only 5% of the country's workforce.

Stop hidding under population.

If it's all about population, China should lead in everything.
But of course China is leading in almost everything... The hub of manufacturing is currently in the world is China, biggest number of skilled labour in the world, technological center, booming economy and possibly the biggest economy in the world by 2020. Population if used right can be an advantage. Imagine if the Nigerian government focused on skill based technical institutes and encouraged accomodative environment to manufacturing investors. It would provide employment to millions and inject billions into the system.

What is the mining multiplier effect on other sectors including gov and finances. I think South Africa without Gold/Coal/other minerals won't be that far. South Africa advancement is basically down to it's minning industry.

The reality is South Africa black population have received a historically bad deal and they really need to work on it...otherwise the projected growth of 1-2% for the next 10yrs means Kenya may soon catch up with your economy.

15yrs ago South Africa (around 150B) GDP was maybe 10 times larger than Kenya(15B). Now it's just 4 times larger -90B versus 350B. Kenya is projected to grow by 6% then next decade.

In the next five years - South Africa GDP will be about 2-3 times larger than Kenya - around 400B versus 150B. Give it another 5yrs - and by 2030 - Kenya may as well have about the same GDP as South Africa.

The icing on the cake is kenya would have done this without any natural resources unlike many basket case Africa countries.

Yeap I like you honesty. Folks should see these debates more as "peer review" not online war btw countries. South Africa has to deal with those issues #1) provide quality education/healthcare/welfare to poor black rural/township/slums and 2#) deal with immigrants. I think sorting Zimbwabwe will eliminate about half of those immigrants - and while that is yet to happen - South Africa police simply has to deport illegal immigrants - there is no other way around that - just have a budget to hunt down and deport all illegal immigrants.

Lionessza6:

I support you on the bolded. Many African leaders starve their nations of educational opportunities to keep the populace living in ignorance and fear of the unknown .We we have seen it here in south Africa in the rural settings . The Anc for a longtime dragged their feet on rural development(universities / colleges) because that is where they have most voters ,now that this is changing, there is more political parties participating in these areas, which is good for a maturing democracy .

Xenophobic attacks happened in the UK and other developed economies , when you are yet to address domestic issues and you add cheap labour from poor immigrants, you will always get such results . The slowpokes of the Anc government are now learning to get their " my brother' s keeper " crap in check or they will be embarrassed at the polls. You can not have 10 million immigrants , mainly from poor countries in a population of 55 million with a struggling economy and internal conflicts , shyt is bound to fly.

Oh gosh! . You think?, this is What is projected? grin grin. No one would deny how previously the minerals played a role in the develoment of South Africa, that was also the case in America, and others , what I was pointing out is that the mineral industry in south Africa is no longer the focus of our growth, as the smart and hardworking black Kenyan implied . I don't know why the advancement of South Africa seems to be a source of pain to some of you, when you get a new train it's " look at our new train , by 2023 we will have a better one than South Africa " grin. Like really?. We don't compete with you, we compete with our yesterday , if we had 5 trains then , we put on ten more today and plan on putting on 8 more in our next financial year , we don't care about the progreess of other Africans, they are a good thing and not some sort of scar on us , my God !.

I couldn't stop laughing at the bolded , was that a lecture or what ?. Coming from a black Kenyan, I find that amusing because from the good deal you got , I'm yet to see anything from you that would make me think you are better off. I'm guessing in your opinion we are sitting on our arses and not doing anything about anything , South Africa just like many deluded African nations is a work in progress . There have been many failed programmes that have lead to the drastic new decision taken yesterday to amend the constitution to allow for land expropriation and many other things that have affected our growth, so don't patronize us with your copy and paste-like expert analysis of how you think we should work on it grin. Gosh!. We have had a lot on our plates, from putting money on education and skills , to reforming the health system to taking out many of our people from poverty to the middle class and upper middle class in just under 24 years. Don't expect black South Africans to be magicians when black Kenyans are still languishing in poverty, illiteracy and many other things even with your good deal. It would have been very short sighted of us to take mines and farms from people with skills and give them to people without those skils out of spite, we all see how that worked out in the rest of Africa.

Dude , you are not dumb people , it was expected that you and other countries would close the gap between you and south africa, why is that this is seen as a miracle. South Africa is earning more from non mineral sectors just like you, with your population close to ours , why is this news? It's like you guys expected yourselves to always be down and out cry. We inherited a bankrupt economy in 1994 with a huge poor population, we had other major issues on top of that and we survived . So in as much as we had those minerals ( which benefited the us less than the west ) We also inherited more problems to solve than most nations with no mineral wealth. We are glad you are doing great , but don't think your progress is a dent on us lol, we don't really need patting on the back , we have gone through worse economic meltdowns some years back and managed to pick ourselves up , this won't be any different. Infact this time around , it will be much more interesting and historical , since most are crossing their fingers for a Zimbabwe outcome grin, so they can get some space for chest beating, they are in for the shock of their lives , or should I say egg on the face kind of disappointment lol. There are projections and then there is reality. Thère are projections that all of our police stations will be run by Chinese by 2023 grin, and then there is the reality that not even one chinese police station exists in south Africa.

That explains why the ball is still on our side.Ethiopia's market is much regulated. Our market is liberalized and open.It would be interesting to see how Ethiopia would perform if it opened more and more access of its market to the world! Having an exposed market that would react to the slightest of local and global shocks is something that Ethiopians haven't taken up yet! We in Kenya are used to this shocks, the economy might loose billions of shillings in minutes just because USA and China have announced a trade war. This forces the central governor to intervene and pour more dollars into the market to thwart any threat to the shilling lest it remains exposed.Likewise, something like the handshake between Uhuru and Raila the opposition leader strengthened the shilling as investors were now more confident that there was going to be more stability hence they poured more dollars into the market due to excitement and reached a point that forced the central bank to mop up excess liquidity from the market, too much liquidity is undesirable.Such shocks that could be detrimental to a country's economy aren't much experienced by Ethiopia. It's about time Ethiopia opens a stock exchange! It would be good for them in the long run!

You mentioned education and consciousness in your earlier post , but you forgot to add that there is a lot of reta'rdation in Africa. This is due to laziness to think , very few want to research and explore , most just want to get to the conclusion and then we wonder why others come to Africa to do the thinking and exploring. Same with the land issue Zim vs South Africa, slowpokes just weigh in without ever looking closely at what happened in zim and why , and also what is happening in south Africa and how ?.

By the way congrats on the 50% women representation of women in your parliament , how do you feel about this and what's your take on your new president?.

You are right, many African nations don't even want to be conscious. They only care for useless things.

When it comes to China, here is how it goes down. . . China keeps helping Africa for the loan, we keep borrowing with out limits. Because they are helping us with the money, we are required to feed their population giving them the job opportunity. If we go against them and prefer to give chance for our nations for the mega projects, they will warn us to give back the money we have borrowed (them knowing we will never acheive that). Then if we are un able to give back the money, what do we know? Our country may be sold. I don't know how true it is but I heard it from a trusted source. Today, the bid Ethiopia has exceeded that when calculated, every Ethiopian is required to pay 3000ETB or 100 USD to finish paying. Imagine! It is all interlocked, we can't run away from China. Once we got in this mess, it gets worse and worse. Why do you think we aren't colonized as ancient slaves? It is because we all are falling on the whites plan and this time it is worse. They are eating all the money, and we aren't fighting them. We are even calling them our saviour because they throw us bag of food we made ourself indirectly. Ayyyy, Africa is a mess.

About our new leader and new cabinet, I am very happy. Leaders who truly know about their country and prioritize country issue before individual need are hard to find in Africa. I hope we have him here. Our women which are appointed are found well too. More than anything, I feel really lucky to see justice in here. Highly corrupt officials are being handed, and so many good things are being seen. But still, we need to pray. There are many things to clear up here. And thanks!

Where have you been though? Been long meeting you. . .

The projections are in Draft 2018 Budget Review and Outlook paper - pg 41 - there is a table there.
http://www.treasury.go.ke/component/jdownloads/send/198-2018-2019/1279-draft-2018-budget-review-outlook-paper.html
By end of this year(2018) - I think we will definitely be more than 90B -possibly around 92B(9.2 trillion Kshs) dollars. If we grow at projected 5-
7% in the medium term - treasury are predicted by end of 2023 - we should be well into 160B plus (IMF think we will be at 132B).

Note: M-pesa transaction this year will probably exceed 5 trillions (50B) - so that should tell you the economy reaching mere 15 trillion in 3-4yrs from now is easy breezy.
