Read this brother
So do goalkeepers have too much protection these days? I think so on this evidence. Haghighi comes and misses to punch clear a corner, and from the resulting loose ball Ahmed Musa turns home from close range. The goal is ruled out though as the Iran keeper complained he was impeded by a Nigerian forward.

A VERY soft free-kick for Iran, as Ogenyi Onazi just now drills narrowly wide across goal
Could not remember this

First of all, don't jump into what you don't understand. We are talking about Rohr's entire time in charge of the Eagles, haven't we played approximately 20 games under Rohr?

Then if you call that second half performance against Poland 'turning up' well.... That's your opinion sha. So I repeat, 3 games out of 20 games in this Rohr era is why you want me to call his team a second half team? I have been giving him credit, like the away match against Zambia and then Cameroon, good games (I won't count Argentina here because it was a friendly but a good game too) and then maybe the first leg against Algeria, if we perform close to that abs anybody calls for Rohr's head I will be the first to strike back.
Remember when I was specific?
Need I remind of Pre-WC/WC proper games? What was the noise everywhere? Was it not how we are a second-half team?

Now tell me since Rohr came what games have been important. Qualifiers, Friendlies (with Europeans) and Tournament proper

If those are the games they are not 20.

If pochetino who's the younger manager is written off by you to improve on his game reading then how would you expect a 62 year old who's a tad too conservative too improve.

Perhaps, you have ideas on how to teach an old dog new tricks.

And just like I said earlier, Spurs don't have a big squad, even if he wants to tweak things, his options are limited.

And I know exactly what you're trying to do. It reminded me of one of the laws of power: you can manipulate people by giving them two options to choose from. Make one of the options more attractive and the other impossible to choose.

That won't work on me bro.

Don't make it an option between an inept coach in Rohr and the obviously corrupt indigenous coaches.

Okay then help us widen the pool of better coaches who are available and willing to come to manage Nigeria and also review the finances involved in bringing that special manager here. When you're done let's discuss our options again.

You said Rohr built this team. I am not understanding how exactly because Balogun, Ekong and Omeruo had over 20-25 caps combined before he came. Onazi? Mikel? Ogu? Ighalo? Simon Moses? VicMo? Musa? Shehu? Bar Shehu all the other guys had at least 10 caps already before he came in which means over 2 years of international football each. Rohr has been giving us the results but he didn't inherit 24 bags of cement

How many of those players in the last competitive game before Rohr started against South Africa? Also how many of those players from the last competitive fixture before Rohr will start against Uganda?

We had the youngest team in the world cup didn't we?

Rohr has built the team we have today and is still building.

I thought you were following our conversation, my apologies then. But still, I am not sure you should have used just three games to negate what I said.

Anyways if you count friendlies against Europeans then it is approximately 20 like I said. 6 games in the WC qualifiers(let us leave out the first match against Tanzania), then the friendlies against Poland, Serbia, England, Argentina and(I can't remember the last team), that is 4, plus 3 games in the WC proper, that's 13 plus the five we have played now so 18. You just countered my points without actual checking them

7 Expectations As Super Eagles Tackle Uganda

After their successful qualification for the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon courtesy of their 1 -1 draw with South Africa, the Eagles test their mettle against Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday

With qualification already in the bag and nothing to play for in the exhibition game, here are 7 things we expect to see

1. The Debut of Samuel Chukwueze
Nigerian soccer fans can’t wait to see new Villarreal Wonderkid Samuel Chukwueze make his eagles debut and will be expecting Rohr to parade the young man in the game against Uganda
Chukwueze is the hottest rave in Nigerian . . . . http://www.soccerassembly.com/7-expectations-super-eagles-tackle-uganda/

Just to bring some context and prevent us going down the over hype route again.

Does anybody know how many games this Wonder Kid has played for the first team at Villareal❓❓

What makes him so wonderful in the context of world football not local.

TheSupernerd, I keep asking u if we are in the New dawn yet and you have been shifting that dawn. And have been waiting and waiting to declare that "New Dawn".

Guess what, some of us have been waiting and expecting that New dawn for the past 20years! (1998 to be precise). grin

We are no longer that dominant force that we used to be. Yes, we have a very rich pedigree but we must also realize that it is no longer business as usual. Nigeria is no longer much better than teams like SA, Congo DR, Mali, Guinea, and the likes. And we arguably can only rub shoulders with likes of CIV, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt.

For those that expected us to have over run SA in Jo' burg you need to have a rethink. The current squad is not even as gifted as the squad we had from 2002 to 2010 era, which to me was our last generation of SUPER Eagles. Just compare position by position including the 3 choice goalies and u will realize. What we have now are a group of mostly young talented players who we hope will with time start delivering the goods.

I do not belong to the group that excessively hype players neither do I belong to the group that Pull down players. The earlier we realize that we are not that dominant force we used to be in the 1990s and 2000s the better for us.

Yes, we are on a building or rebuilding process, just like have been since 1998, and so we need to be patient with the team.

And on Rohr, we all know he is not much gifted tactically. Such is for so many coaches. The NFF had to employ Bonfere Jo as a personal tactician to Westerhoff. So many here call Rohr ''White Onigbinde'' but I see him more as ''white Amodu''. The simple philosophy that guides such a coach is ''if you cannot win do not lose''. Just like Amodu, Rohr took over the coaching position and unlike most other coaches, he started with the already existing squad and started getting results while the gradual injection of New blood with time. Some call it conservatism but I call it building with stability . Some here even once called Rohr a white version of Icon4s grin. And I have adviced a couple of smart analysts here before to go for Basic coaching certificates and that will make them see things not only as critics but also as coaches. They used to call me a conservatist until they met Rohr grin TheGoodJoe and TheSuperNerd how far? grin

To be candid this is one of Rohr's thinnest squads he has ever paraded. We were so unlucky with the wrong calls by the officials especially that 2nd goal which could have been the decider. What I will say is lets be patient with Rohr, he looks like someone still on the learning curve. He has managed to give us the AFCON ticket with a game to spare even after losing our first game. Those that have criticized him have every Right to do so just like those who have hailed him. We know Rohr is not an excellent tactician but he has continued to deliver which is the ultimate yardstick to judge a coach.

Since 1998?? Haba naa... The golden generation was still around then but fell into dark hours that we remained in till we saw a bit of the light again in 2013 under the late legendary Keshi (bless his soul).

Besides in 1998 I had not even began following the Beautiful game. I began my football journey in 1999 just before my 7th birthday. My senior bro drew me in when I saw loads of football information in the sports archives section of his mini library. What I saw on Nigerian football history got me started. It wowed me and my journey began...

For me the coming of a new dawn and rise of a potential 2nd Golden Generation became strong in me from 2013 after our Afcon triumph coupled with the success of the Golden Eaglets Class of 2013 that saw a bonafide young squad of gifted Nigerians storm their way to the world title in the most dominant fashion, style and performances you would see from an U-17 team in FIFA history.

So I say again Dad, The dawn is near. The stars are beginning to align and fall in some pleasant places but we are still a few moments off that bright dawn... What I see now is just sprinkles of dim light in the distance but bright, it is not... It is not eureka yet. Give it a bit more time... wink

On the comparison between thy Legendary Conservatism and the truly legendary and natural conservatism of Gernot Rohr.... I can only say that time will tell whose conservatism surpasses the other and leave its marks in the sands of time. You get your own... But Rohr get him own. You say some call Rohr, a white version of you? Chineke! That is really sad ooo... because they also call him White Onigbinde....Bia Dad, are you saying that you, Rohr and Onigbinde are interconnected in a conservatism triangle?? Abeg who specifically label Rohr as White Icon4s? Nna eh... Na wa...

Well... My hands no dey on thy conservatism matter again because I don accept am but on Rohr, I am truly concerned because he sits in the position that directly determines how the direction of this new rising generation will go. It is majorly in his hands that this generation can become Golden or not... And I pray he lives up to expectations or even surpasses them and use his conservatism wisely for the best of the team. Yes, Rohr is conservative and I want him to be much more dynamic but I must remind us all that his stubborn resilience and conservatism have transformed Ighalo into a feared No 9 all of a sudden after the WC debacle amd the top ranking marksman in the Entire Afcon Qualifiers... No one will cry foul on seeing Ighalo on the team sheet again because the man is in great form now and has become a lethal weapon for the Super Eagles as our undisputed top 9. It is in times like this, we must take a step back and soft-pedal a bit on the knocks on Rohr's conservatism bcoz without it... There would be no In-form Ighalo today.

But in all, the dawn is near... But not yet come in full...

grin You know this isn't a fair assessment. First of all Omeruo has over 50 caps I believe, but he didn't play that match. Siasia it was that got Ekong so that's out too, then we count Iheanacho, Iwobi, Musa and Ezenwa, that is 6 in total now. In short, way more credit should go to Manu Garba and Amuneke, it is not as if Rohr got these players from the sky.

Will you shut your mouth and stop yapping nonsense for once about any Indigenous born Nigerian talent??

How many games this!! How many games that!!! A lad with 2 goals and an assist and two MOTM awards in six senior games for Villarreal this season in all competitions!!! A lad who only made his debut for Villarreal B in April this year and has risen so fast to the first Team of Villarreal!!! A lad that even La Liga have recognised officially among their best young players!!! Komekn, seriously shut your mouth!! What rubbish!

Your odourous comments subtly playing down the talents of just about any Indigenous-naija born soccer talent is becoming really mega-stinky by the passing attoseconds!!! Nonsense!

You must be as blind as the refs on Saturday that you cannot even spot a genuine talent already recognised by la Liga... Don't be like Gassama and his assistants as depicted below!!

Firstly, A good number of the senior Westerhofs players were carried over form the 1980s. They had been part and parcel of the team and so you wouldn't expect issues when it came to integration.

Secondly, the New inclusions in the team were already high flying professionals that were already delivering at their respective clubs, Both locally and Foreign. Not like now that we have players who have just been newly promoted from the academies. And we hope will deliver.

The bottom line is we do not have the armory that we had then. There is a gulf in Class.

And on Rohr, We have all accepted that he is not much of a good tactician, but again remember The NFA then engaged Bonfere Jo as a tactician to Westerhoff. But as Earthquake2 rightly said, Rohr is a good Team Manager. Now, the question should be what will it cost the NFF to engage a tactician for the team?

And o Rohr learning, oga, every coach dey learn o.

This is at the heart of the problem, limited quality but them that should translate to more opportunity.

Some people are looking at players from the perspective of past youthful glories as the basis for a call up.

We need to look for more quality not just potential but proven quality.

In this regard I can not understand why Ebere Eze was not invited, we have a snail pace approach. We lack quality is that not reason enough to invite more players.

He is a huge potential albeit at the beginning of his career. I can understand the excitement of fans waiting to see him play in flesh. He cannot be placed in the same category as the majority of players of his age and background.

our main core have been part of the SE for over 5 years na. Mikel, Onazi, Balogun, Ogu, Musa, Omeruo I can go on, they didn't just fly into the team. But let us just assume you are correct.

Nobody is asking for Barca, just have a good, well defined pattern of play, do not confuse what I am saying. Of course we cannot give what we do not have, but when we cannot even coordinate five passes together it is an issue, or because we have academy players they can no longer pass the ball? We cannot be dominant all the time but at least we can play well, our academy players are way better than SA's best players so what was that performance all about. Sha let's not argue this, Rohr still is the manager and I can't change that.

I hope your night was fine Sir

Can you compare this main core with the Old main core that Westerhorf inherited from the 1980s?: Keshi, Okechukwu, Iroha and Eguavoen (which was our regular back 4) then Eziugo, Siasia, Yekini, not forgetting Peter Rufai, . Come to even think of the then post 80 inclusions in: Amokachi, Nwannu, Oliha, Finidi, Amuneke, Oliseh and Okocha. It is largely unfair to make comparisons between Westerhof's and Rohr's Teams. When Westrehof went to Zimbabwe how did he perform? Our U23 team even trashed his team 4-0 in Lagos.

And to my night. Not particularly pleasant as our Girls disgraced us. I woke up this morning and the memory of that lose just spoilt my mood. sad

Being young in management terms doesn't cut it as an excuse. He's been at spurs for 5yrs! And he didn't join them as a rookie manager did he? undecided

What the majority of Naija fans truely deserve is a manager who would call up a completely unheard of Gabriel Okechukwu for an important qualifier and give him the no.10 shirt for a country as big in the game as Nigeria and leaves him on the bench! Then when his team starts crumbling he doesn't have to have the balls to bring him on. Haha

They deserve a manager who would play Seth Sincere in the heart of defence in an important qualifier instead of several other defenders supposedly well ahead of him in the pecking order ....and drop points in the process.

They deserve mangers who would call up Igobun and Onobi and leave out Mikel and Ighalo, as our African guardiola once did. obvious choices abi?

They deserve foreign managers only interested in managing their team in the world cup for 3 games and after losing out don't even bother returning with the team.

Thank God for Pinnick. With the man being more clever than the majority of fans I can continue to trust him to continue protecting you from yourselves.

You are right Marvellous Basco. Sophia Omidiji won't even make the team's bench. I have seen her play a couple times and I gotta tell ya, her popularity is only because she is fair, gets invited for events and was outspoken about wanting to play for Nigeria rather than USA. She is a nice jovial lady but nothing close to the quality that can make our Falcons soar.

So just....

Do you know that in the mid 2000s we had the best assemblage of players in Africa. That was a Golden Generation that won nothing, Just like Drogba's generation.

Look at our 2006 AFCON Squad:!

Vincent Enyeama
Joseph Yobo
Taye Taiwo
Nwankwo Kanu
Chidi Odiah
Joseph Enakarhire
John Utaka
John Obi Mikel
Obafemi Martins
Jay-Jay Okocha
Garba Lawal
Austin Ejide
Ayila Yussuf
Victor Obinna Nsofor
Paul Obiefule
Wilson Oruma
Julius Aghahowa
Christian Obodo
Stephen Makinwa
Peter Odemwingie
Obinna Nwaneri
Sani Kaita
Dele Aiyenugba
All these Players above (except Mikel, Taiwo and Nsofor who were just coming up and just graduated to the Super Eagles) were at the prime of their careers. They were mostly regulars in their respective clubs in Europe and I need not roll out the intimidating list of clubs.
I don't think up any 2 of the current squad can make the starting 11 of that team.

My point is if it is the emergence of talented or quality players we have always had them. That 2000s set never really had quality coaches which was responsible for the inconsistencies in their performance, even missing out on the 2006 WC. There is nothing you saw with the 2013 Eaglets that I didn't see with the 1993 Eaglets.

Haha, make u no grow old while waiting for that 2nd Golden Generation o.

Sir, since its quite obvious you know it all, kindly enlighten us on the way forward. Based on the fact that you can see into the future, how do we go about the nations cup tournament? How does Rohr get it as he has no clue?

Thanks for your observation with regards that i know it all. Highly flattered...but no thanks!

Nations cup is almost here. We will be here. Then I will answer you

I am aware of the potentials of the 2000s as I spoke briefly about that period in my reply to DaveP but we failed to even qualify for the 2006 WC with those guys. We failed and kept on failing. They were exciting but not close to being Golden.... That was just a phase we were managing until we finally hit the bulls' eye in 2013.

The team of 2013 beat CIV's golden generation and now the rise and continued maturity of all the talents we are witnessing today points to something more beautiful than the 2000s if only managed well enough.

How is a team's greatness measured? By the stardust quality present or by its achievements? The class of 2013 were looking less in quality compared to the earlier 2000s squads but they gave us a third Afcon silencing CIV's dreaded Golden Generation along the way.

Finally, what you saw with the class of 93 eventually gave us an Olympic Gold medal beating World Champs Brazil with Best player Ronaldo de Lima and beating Argentina...

That class produced something and could have even gone on to conquer Africa in 1996.

Now if you same thing with the class of 2013 and beyond then it means something good is indeed coming. The 93 class contributed to the first Golden Generation too...

Icon4s:

Do you know that in the mid 2000s we had the best assemblage of players in Africa. That was a Golden Generation that won nothing, Just like Drogba's generation.

Look at our 2006 AFCON Squad:!

Vincent Enyeama
Joseph Yobo
Taye Taiwo
Nwankwo Kanu
Chidi Odiah
Joseph Enakarhire
John Utaka
John Obi Mikel
Obafemi Martins
Jay-Jay Okocha
Garba Lawal
Austin Ejide
Ayila Yussuf
Victor Obinna Nsofor
Paul Obiefule
Wilson Oruma
Julius Aghahowa
Christian Obodo
Stephen Makinwa
Peter Odemwingie
Obinna Nwaneri
Sani Kaita
Dele Aiyenugba

I don't think up any 2 of the current squad can make the starting 11 of that team.

My point is if it is the emergence of talented or quality players we have always had them. That 2000s never really had quality coaches which was responsible for the inconsistencies in their performance, even missing out on the 2006 WC. There is nothing you saw with the 2013 Eaglets that I didn't see with the 1993 Eaglets.

Haha, make u no grow old while waiting for that 2nd Golden Generation o.

Okay then help us widen the pool of better coaches who are available and willing to come to manage Nigeria and also review the finances involved in bringing that special manager here. When you're done let's discuss our options again.

Believe me, even as a critic of Rohr, I'm finding it difficult to be definite when calling for his sack.

Because pinnick in recent times has shown that his choices are to be questioned.

If we're to continue with Rohr, a technical assistant should be employed to support him. We've seen Keshi/Okpala worked and when the partnership was broken, we paid for it. Siasia/Kalika worked too. Man management won't take us far.

But guess what? Pinnick would be waiting for Salisu Yusuf on completion of his ban to continue as Rohr's assistant.

Football self No de sweet me like before again, I might just want to take a break, because these things annoys me.

Boss, learning curve after three years? At the World Cup your excuse was 'he is still building', now we are getting even worse and you have reversed to 'he is getting results', so after building for the past 3 years all he can manage to do is to 'get results'? By 1993 Westerhof's team was playing brilliant football, I remember asking Sia1 something about that and he told me that by 92 everybody already knew what to do, when you come to camp the coach will just perfect what you had already learnt, if after three years(with a proper tournament in between which affords coaches enough time to train their players) we are still playing without any identity then we haven't built anything. You do know that if Rohr gets sacked that a new coach will have to start from the scratch, because no good coach will adopt this playing method, what then have we built? Klinsman left Germany and Leow came in and continued the same pattern, in that case you can say Klinsman built something, this coach that took Argentina to the final of the 2014 WC left, Martino came in and continued his philosophy and Argentina almost won a Copa, sadly these have been three wasted years, yes we have made it to the WC and the AFCON but what will be the benefit in the long run?

God bless you for this beautiful post

Let me be frank with you. I never saw a future in that 2013 AFCON Team. The team just hit gear when it was required and we won the AFCON. What happened immediately after the WC? We lost to Congo 2-3 in Uyo and finally could not make it to defend the next AFCON. Please go back to that comment u quoted this comment from. I made some additions. Thanks.

Just to bring some context and prevent us going down the over hype route again.

Does anybody know how many games this Wonder Kid has played for the first team at Villareal❓❓

What makes him so wonderful in the context of world football not local.

As a kid who just got promoted to the first team, he has contributed about 3 goals in just 5-6 games to his team.

He's coming up.

Not a hype, the lad is just having his first real moment of publicity. The question of 'if' is still hanging on balance. It is not just Nigeria or Rohr, it is universal something, you get?

I can give you 100's surging wonderkids that are enjoying this privilege just as Samuel. It might interest you to know that Timothy weah has more national appearance than his league outings. Ben Woodburn of Liverpool nko? What of your dear Sancho who has not played up to 30 league matches but has played for England? I can go on till day break.

Just chill down, let the boy enjoy his moment.
