You cannot make your deduction using one game. He has been good since his game with the senior team. Judging by the last few games, he's in first 11

Lol... As in eh... Who would have even thought that 2013 class would conquer the Continent except a few? Such is the way of football sometimes. But in the end they will forever be rated and remembered far and above the class of the 2000s.

I have gone back to read your additional comments and I have noted all points added.... I also made some additions myself and I just wanna drop the last part here for you...

"Finally, what you saw with the class of 93 eventually gave us an Olympic Gold medal beating World Champs Brazil with Best player Ronaldo de Lima and beating Argentina...
That class produced something and could have even gone on to conquer Africa in 1996 if not for political nonsense between Nigeria and SA.
Now if you saw same thing with the class of 2013 and beyond then it means something great and Beautiful is indeed coming for Nigerian football. The '93 class contributed to the first Golden Generation too... And gave us world recognition even. So if what you saw in '93 can be spotted also in the 2013 and 2015 classes then I repeat... The dawn is near." wink

Let me be frank with you. I never saw a future in that 2013 AFCON Team. The team just hit gear when it was required and we won the AFCON. What happened immediately after the WC? We lost to Congo 2-3 in Uyo and finally could not make it to defend the next AFCON. Please go back to that comment u quoted this comment from. I made some additions. Thanks.

You are right Marvellous Basco. Sophia Omidiji won't even make the team's bench. I have seen her play a couple times and I gotta tell ya, her popularity is only because she is fair, gets invited for events and was outspoken about wanting to play for Nigeria rather than USA. She is nice jovial lady but nothing close to the quality that can make our Falcons soar.

Nothing but the truth buddy, nothing but the truth.

Just to bring some context and prevent us going down the over hype route again.

Does anybody know how many games this Wonder Kid has played for the first team at Villareal❓❓

What makes him so wonderful in the context of world football not local.

Because La Liga says so.

Are you without a TV in your house?

At least you have a smartphone and can get replays on YouTube.

You've been harping on his game against Rangers, as if that's the only game he's played till date.

No need to curse na. But komekn fall my hand here. Chukwueze is undisputedly the most promising Nigerian prospect (anglo-Nigerians inclusive).

TheSuperNerd:

Will you shut your mouth and stop yapping nonsense for once about any Indigenous born Nigerian talent??

How many games this!! How many games that!!! A lad with 2 goals and an assist and two MOTM awards in six senior games for Villarreal this season in all competitions!!! A lad who only made his debut for Villarreal B in April this year and has risen so fast to the first Team of Villarreal!!! A lad that even La Liga have recognised officially among their best young players!!! Komekn, seriously shut your mouth!! What rubbish!

Your odourous comments subtly playing down the talents of just about any Indigenous-naija born soccer talent is becoming really mega-stinky by the passing attoseconds!!! Nonsense!

You must be as blind as the refs on Saturday that you cannot even spot a genuine talent already recognised by la Liga... Don't be like Gassama and his assistants as depicted below!!

Honestly Joebie, I just said it as it is concerning that man called Komekn who always uses the tools of subtle jabs and neatly coated words of downplay to always stylishly talk down on the genuine talents of the Indigenous Naija-born young talents. He is a blind bat... Period!

Ahhh... @bolded... Better you delete that one too because Komekn will come and drop the stats of Josh Maja's goals in World class League 1 which is definitely better and highly rated than La Liga. Better tread carefully oh good Sir.

Believe me, even as a critic of Rohr, I'm finding it difficult to be definite when calling for his sack.

Because pinnick in recent times have shown that his choices are to be questioned.

If we're to continue with Rohr, a technical assistant should be employed to support him. We've seen Keshi/Okpala worked and when the partnership was broken, we paid for it. Siasia/Kalika worked too. Man management won't take us far.

But guess what? Pinnick would be waiting for Salisu Yusuf on completion of his ban to continue as Rohr's assistant.

Football self No de sweet me like before again, I might just want to take a break, because these things annoys me.

Gernot Rohr’s Substitution Timing: Fact or Fiction?
Chuka OnwumechiliChuka
November 18, 2018

One of the biggest gripe or complaint about Gernot Rohr’s management of the Nigerian national team is that he makes substitutions too late and is perhaps overwhelmed by the flow of the game. This is a remarkable claim that warrants investigation and that is what I decided to do in order to verify if this claim is fact or fiction.

Data used for this analysis goes back slightly over a decade beginning with Berti Vogts’ tenure in 2007. Not included, however, is Augustine Eguavoen’s brief tenure as caretaker. First, I only collected data from competitive games, which did not include WAFU or CHAN games.

Furthermore, I also took into consideration only the first two substitutions considering that third substitutions are often held back until late in order to account for injuries and, thus, data from such substitutions could considerably distort results.

Importantly, one data set was missing which is the timing for substitutions made by Manager Samson Siasia in an AFCON qualifier that ended 2-2 against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa back in 2011. Thus, that game was not included in this analysis. Additionally, the data sets for Siasia, Sunday Oliseh, and Lars Lagerback were five or less games each.

The exploration of data for this article provides some surprising findings that are not associated with Gernot Rohr. For instance, it seems that Lagerback leaned towards making quick and early substitutions after the first half. Perhaps, it demonstrated his frustration with the team that he had at the 2010 World Cup. In our data set, he made his first two substitutions all within the hour, statistics not common with the rest of Nigerian managers.

On the other hand, Oliseh and Shuaibu Amodu made remarkable first half substitutions that had nothing to do with injury to substituted players. Oliseh’s quick decision on Lukman Haruna after just 35 minutes in an AFCON qualifier against Tanzania and Amodu’s replacement of Victor Anichebe in an AFCON qualifier with five minutes to the end of the half against Equatorial Guinea in 2008.

In any case, back to Gernot Rohr. Tables 1 and 2 show the results. On Table 1 it shows that Coach Rohr’s first substitutions are not always late in comparison with Nigeria’s previous managers. In fact, his first substitutions are earlier than Vogts’. Thus, the claim of late timing here is fiction rather than fact.

Moreover, Rohr’s substitution decisions are not that different from the timing of Amodu or Stephen Keshi’s first substitutions, barring forced injury substitutions in the first half. Table 2 shows that Rohr’s latest first substitution, which came in the 75th minute against Libya last October, matches a similar timing under both Amodu and Oliseh’s latest first substitutions.

In fact, Keshi holds the record here for the latest first substitution, which came just three minutes to the end of an AFCON game against Ivory Coast, which Nigeria won 2-1 in 2013.

Where the case against Rohr is factual is how long it takes him to make his second substitution. He made the latest of second substitutions of all managers under consideration in the last decade. It takes him 76 minutes to make his second substitution on the average. His fastest second substitution is at the 66-minute mark, much later than any other coach.

The point of these statistics is to show that criticism of Rohr’s substitution timing is only factual when nuanced. His timing of his first substitutions is not unusual. It is the timing of his second that comes later than usual when compared against other Nigerian managers in the last decade.

I picked up on just "lowly rated" you know why?

When clamoring for Ovie Ejaria who I also rate actually, Komekn would never use "lowly rated" to describe the team, Rangers of Scotland. He will even say better to be a king at a small club making progress rather than being a mouse warming the bench in a big club abi.... (This even applies to his beloved Solanke but he never uses such on the lad who is the certified waste-basket of this era as he only keeps scoring age grade goals and not measuring up at senior level... He is being left out at Liverpool constantly and cannot even do what Nacho did at Man City and what Chukwueze is doing at a top Spanish side like Villarreal).

But right now, for the sake of his attempt to talk down on Chukwueze, he introduces the term "lowly rated" to tag Glasgow Rangers.
But Rangers will no longer be lowly rated oooo when he speaks of Ovie Ejaria as an option for us. I like Ovie but I hate, scoff at and spit upon the shambolic double standards of that master clown called Komekn. It is mega-stinky!!! Yuck!!!

I know of that, but back then none of the critics could say his team's performance was bad, that match against Algeria happens, that was in 91, I said 93 which is the period I vaguely know of, in that 94 Afcon I remember asking my dad why it was only Nigeria that was passing the ball, I can't remember against which team exactly, such was the dominance and it started from late 92/early 93. Back then the media was against Westerhof not exactly 'every nigerian' like you put it, I know atleast all my elder siblings respect him totally, the media started that war against Westerhof probably because of some personal interest which I do not know, but that isn't even my point. Westerhof took a bunch of guys and had them playing so well that people started saying that any coach could perform wonders with those players, same thing people said about Pep in Barca until Tito and then Tata took over. But in Rohr's case, he has taken a young, talented team backwards, if we are at least performing well but the results aren't coming I may say ok, but bar the match away to Zambia and against Cameroon we haven't seen any extraordinary performance. Bottomline? Westerhof's team was so dominant that people thought anybody could do same with the set of players he had, Rohr's team is so bad that people are wondering if we wouldn't be better off with another person despite the results. Please and please, Rohr's case and that of Westerhof isn't related.
backwards you say? after the shambles African Guardiola did? you can say stagnant which is debatable not backwards

More like Rohr was scared to his boxers and decided no adventurous play or he lacks the capability of building a strong setup to tear up tough oppositions. Either way, our display yesterday was close to atrocious.

Atrocious in what sense?
Playing at an unfamiliar altitude on a hot afternoon missing some of our regular legs or having 2 legitimate goals disallowed?

Need I remind you the stats?

Nigeria had 5 shots (2 on target), South Africa had 2 shots (1 on target).

If for anything, I respect Rohr the more for sticking to that ugly football to get results as we could not afford to slip.
South Africa in the latter parts had nothing on us. They could not venture past the wall. They had to result to long balls. They could neither run at us nor find spaces. For us a draw is as good as a win. If Siasia was this conservative in 2012 we would not have been knocked out of that year's AFCON.

I am serious when it comes the possibility of a second Golden generation in Nigerian soccer because it has been my dream and my cry since 2015 when I walked in here on NL sports. I want to experience what a Nigerian Golden Generation feels like and for a longer duration too... I hope you understand why this is so personal to me Dave. I didn't enjoy the first Golden Generation in the 90s and 2000s because all the best moments of that generation took place when I was still a baby in 94 and a toddler in 96. I felt only the screams and shouts as a little baby boy but never understood what it was for.... I missed that Golden Generation and only know so much about it bcoz I read and watched lots of clips about those periods.

Even in the mid-2000s with the Yak, Martins the WMD (weapon of mass destruction), Osaze, a young Mikel Obi and Ik Uche, I yearned for so much from them but got disappointed. It was only in 2013 I got to taste what a combination of our best graduates from our youth system (U-17s and U-20s and U-23s) could come together in one generation to achieve. For the first time I understood what it truly felt to be an African Champ and see live as we lifted that trophy... That year was total vindication for me as I was the only one in my medical college who predicted an Afcon Title and a CIV defeat in the QFs. Since that day I had a new nickname at Med School added to the ones I got for my academic prowess... I became known as Mr. Nigeria amd my opinions on Sports and SE matters became respected by all at Med School when in the common room or at viewing centers within or around the campus areas.

Dave, as regards Nigerian football success in this new age, I have a dream... And I believe this new Super Eagles can make it come true.... The talents are much... The potentials are endless... Holland is rising again and it is coinciding with our rise too. Holland haven't replaced Robben yet even with their rise so far... But they have a Frenkie De Jong who is a total reminder of the Franz Beckanbeaur of old and is sure to be a great in years to come and also a De ligt who could one day become among the best all round CBs in world football someday. But they don't have a Robben-like player... Why is that? Well it is because that Robben-like super talent have been given to Nigerian Football by the football gods in the person of a 19 yrs old kid called Chukwueze.... It is only once in a generation or maybe a lifetime you see the rise of a talent quite 90-100% similar to a previous great and sometimes, it could rise in another nation.
Germany and the rest of the world are seeing a new Beckanbeaur rising not in the Germany NT but in the Holland NT in Frenkie... Just as we are seeing a new Robben-like high yield potential super star in the beastly daring talents of Samuel Chimeranka Chukwueze.

It is no coincidence that dutch football's approaching new dawn is coinciding with Nigeria's. I watch the times and I am observant because I make it my business to be observant... I have a dream.... And I hope to see it manifest in full with the talents coming through in Naija soccer today.

These New Generation Eagles youngsters must mature and soar....
Lol. isokay dey use style dey call us grandpa. lol

we are young o

But I get your anxious wait.

The Robben is on fire

How many more Samuels do we need to be truly Super again?

2013 is Golden.

I said what ever u saw in the 2013 Eaglets I saw that too in the 1993 Class. There could also be other things the 1993 had that the 2013 Eaglets never had. That 1993 Eaglets Class was supposed to be the dawn of New Golden Era. But that never happened which was why I said I have been expecting that ''New Dawn" since 1998 cos France 98 could have been the beginning of a New Golden Generation. None of the 1993 Eaglets team was part of the 1994 WC including the build ups to it. Babayaro taking over from Iroha, Mubi taking over from Eguavoen, and Kanu, Oruma and Ojigwe also progressing to the Super Eagles was supposed to be the transition to usher in the New era as even Oliseh, Okocha, Amuneke, Taribo, Babangida, Ikpeba and Amokachi were still young then. But we kept on trying to rebuild for '' Tomorrow''. We keep trying and trying and 20 years has gone and we are still trying to rebuild.

I sincerely hope this crop of Eagles will emerge as another Golden Generation but I am yet to see the indications cos I have seen better assemblage of SE even after the First Golden Generation.

My friend since you admit you were a youngster then let me tell you now, Westerhof was rattled left and right EVEN in 1993. That was when we lost to ivory coast away after taking the lead. In 1993 in terms of selection people were still accusing him of not picking Wilfred Agbonivare in goal to replace Alloy Agu, which he eventually did.
They picked on him to include Richard Owubokiri as one of the strikers but he wouldn't budge and stuck to Yekini, Siasia and Amokachi!
The list of accusations against him was endless.

In terms of game management, they said his team's only played well in the first half and 'fell asleep' in the second half. Westerhof once responded saying 'thats not true, there are no beds on the pitch'

In almost every game under him we played better in the first half scoring most of our goals and were under the cosh in the second half. When we qualified for our first world cup, the final game away to Algeria which we needed a draw to qualify, we scored first in the first half (Finidi) and in the second half when Algeria came at us and scored and then camped in our half looking for a winner to eliminate us I couldn't breathe! That was under the much respected today Westerhof who then was treated like Rohr is now!

Trust me or ask your brothers.

And by the way we didn't always dominante possession even in that 94 AFCON against Egypt in the group stage and Zaire in the quarter final we had less possession.
thank you BROS!!!!!

You see why I keep insisting in coordinated, uninterrupted passes?

Man City did 46 uninterrupted passes to score one of their goals against bitter rivals, Man U. We aren't them, but it's training and determination that births that. We can do it, at least it's not Man U we would be playing always.

In addition in the Final of the 1994 AFCON. We came back from a goal down to lead Zambia 2-1 with the second goal coming just after the commencement of the second half. But the team went to sleep again and were virtually pegged to our half for the remainder of the game. There were so many aged players in that team

The 98 Class had younger players and with more attacking flair. We qualified from our group that had Spain and Bulgaria with a game to spare. We were already threatening Brazil as a potential Q/Final opponent and they too were getting ready for the challenge as Atlanta 96 was still fresh In their minds. Some pundits were already tipping us for the semi-final. What ever happened against Denmark.....mtcheew undecided

I am aware of the potentials of the 2000s as I spoke briefly about that period in my reply to DaveP but we failed to even qualify for the 2006 WC with those guys. We failed and kept on failing. They were exciting but not close to being Golden.... That was just a phase we were managing until we finally hit the bulls' eye in 2013.

The team of 2013 beat CIV's golden generation and now the rise and continued maturity of all the talents we are witnessing today points to something more beautiful than the 2000s if only managed well enough.

How is a team's greatness measured? By the stardust quality present or by its achievements? The class of 2013 were looking less in quality compared to the earlier 2000s squads but they gave us a third Afcon silencing CIV's dreaded Golden Generation along the way.

Finally, what you saw with the class of 93 eventually gave us an Olympic Gold medal beating World Champs Brazil with Best player Ronaldo de Lima and beating Argentina...

It's simplistic what makes him so wonderful? How many La Liga games has he played and possibly goals scored.

I'm beginning to believe this komekn is a spambot. The consistency of the illogical anti local talent comments beats what a human can sustain... I mean not even an idiotic human can do these things

I still don't understand how a very talented player like Sophia Omidiji didn't make the Super Falcons team. Any reasonable explanation for this?
You didn't even ask of the beautiful Courtney Dike?

I am talking neither in the context of local nor world football. My description is in line with the views of the the media covering la liga, who i strongly believe have seen more of him than you and I. No?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/4622924

You watch more la liga than Guillem Balague?

If Balague thinks he's exciting perhaps Najia fans can be forgiven for feeling the same? Pick your battles bro. This one will not fly. Hope i have adequately informed and educated you as requested.

EVASION !!!

So essentially you have no opinion of your own. You said he was a HUGE TALENT. You have nothing to under pin your deduction with. Another man's comment has become your own.

Anybody notice anything about those keywords bolded? Anyone?
Lol, leave Oga Komekn jare. I'd prefer he watches some clips before he hops and tries picking on someone again. That was too too much an insult.

Pls what's our setpiece conversion/threat rate?
Most of our goal under Rohr's been from open play with a few pks.
This is a bugging issue always for previous managers.

If your blinded by the negative you can't see the objective.

Consider the context Glasgow Rangers is in the Scottish league rated number 20 in Europe and Villareal league La Liga is rated number 1 by UEFA.

So taken in context the comparison is that Glasgow Rangers is lowly rated in comparison to Villarreal . Rangers didn't expect to win or even get a draw. They are the weaker team on paper. So the performance of Rangers was a bit of an upset.
