Lol... As in eh... Who would have even thought that 2013 class would conquer the Continent except a few? Such is the way of football sometimes. But in the end they will forever be rated and remembered far and above the class of the 2000s. I have gone back to read your additional comments and I have noted all points added.... I also made some additions myself and I just wanna drop the last part here for you... "Finally, what you saw with the class of 93 eventually gave us an Olympic Gold medal beating World Champs Brazil with Best player Ronaldo de Lima and beating Argentina... That class produced something and could have even gone on to conquer Africa in 1996 if not for political nonsense between Nigeria and SA. Now if you saw same thing with the class of 2013 and beyond then it means something great and Beautiful is indeed coming for Nigerian football. The '93 class contributed to the first Golden Generation too... And gave us world recognition even. So if what you saw in '93 can be spotted also in the 2013 and 2015 classes then I repeat... The dawn is near." Icon4s: 1 Like |

Honestly Joebie, I just said it as it is concerning that man called Komekn who always uses the tools of subtle jabs and neatly coated words of downplay to always stylishly talk down on the genuine talents of the Indigenous Naija-born young talents. He is a blind bat... Period! Ahhh... @bolded... Better you delete that one too because Komekn will come and drop the stats of Josh Maja's goals in World class League 1 which is definitely better and highly rated than La Liga. Better tread carefully oh good Sir. Joebie: 6 Likes |

Gernot Rohr’s Substitution Timing: Fact or Fiction? Chuka OnwumechiliChuka November 18, 2018 One of the biggest gripe or complaint about Gernot Rohr’s management of the Nigerian national team is that he makes substitutions too late and is perhaps overwhelmed by the flow of the game. This is a remarkable claim that warrants investigation and that is what I decided to do in order to verify if this claim is fact or fiction. Data used for this analysis goes back slightly over a decade beginning with Berti Vogts’ tenure in 2007. Not included, however, is Augustine Eguavoen’s brief tenure as caretaker. First, I only collected data from competitive games, which did not include WAFU or CHAN games. Furthermore, I also took into consideration only the first two substitutions considering that third substitutions are often held back until late in order to account for injuries and, thus, data from such substitutions could considerably distort results. Importantly, one data set was missing which is the timing for substitutions made by Manager Samson Siasia in an AFCON qualifier that ended 2-2 against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa back in 2011. Thus, that game was not included in this analysis. Additionally, the data sets for Siasia, Sunday Oliseh, and Lars Lagerback were five or less games each. The exploration of data for this article provides some surprising findings that are not associated with Gernot Rohr. For instance, it seems that Lagerback leaned towards making quick and early substitutions after the first half. Perhaps, it demonstrated his frustration with the team that he had at the 2010 World Cup. In our data set, he made his first two substitutions all within the hour, statistics not common with the rest of Nigerian managers. On the other hand, Oliseh and Shuaibu Amodu made remarkable first half substitutions that had nothing to do with injury to substituted players. Oliseh’s quick decision on Lukman Haruna after just 35 minutes in an AFCON qualifier against Tanzania and Amodu’s replacement of Victor Anichebe in an AFCON qualifier with five minutes to the end of the half against Equatorial Guinea in 2008. In any case, back to Gernot Rohr. Tables 1 and 2 show the results. On Table 1 it shows that Coach Rohr’s first substitutions are not always late in comparison with Nigeria’s previous managers. In fact, his first substitutions are earlier than Vogts’. Thus, the claim of late timing here is fiction rather than fact. Moreover, Rohr’s substitution decisions are not that different from the timing of Amodu or Stephen Keshi’s first substitutions, barring forced injury substitutions in the first half. Table 2 shows that Rohr’s latest first substitution, which came in the 75th minute against Libya last October, matches a similar timing under both Amodu and Oliseh’s latest first substitutions. In fact, Keshi holds the record here for the latest first substitution, which came just three minutes to the end of an AFCON game against Ivory Coast, which Nigeria won 2-1 in 2013. Where the case against Rohr is factual is how long it takes him to make his second substitution. He made the latest of second substitutions of all managers under consideration in the last decade. It takes him 76 minutes to make his second substitution on the average. His fastest second substitution is at the 66-minute mark, much later than any other coach. The point of these statistics is to show that criticism of Rohr’s substitution timing is only factual when nuanced. His timing of his first substitutions is not unusual. It is the timing of his second that comes later than usual when compared against other Nigerian managers in the last decade. — ACLsports 2 Likes

I picked up on just "lowly rated" you know why? When clamoring for Ovie Ejaria who I also rate actually, Komekn would never use "lowly rated" to describe the team, Rangers of Scotland. He will even say better to be a king at a small club making progress rather than being a mouse warming the bench in a big club abi.... (This even applies to his beloved Solanke but he never uses such on the lad who is the certified waste-basket of this era as he only keeps scoring age grade goals and not measuring up at senior level... He is being left out at Liverpool constantly and cannot even do what Nacho did at Man City and what Chukwueze is doing at a top Spanish side like Villarreal). But right now, for the sake of his attempt to talk down on Chukwueze, he introduces the term "lowly rated" to tag Glasgow Rangers. But Rangers will no longer be lowly rated oooo when he speaks of Ovie Ejaria as an option for us. I like Ovie but I hate, scoff at and spit upon the shambolic double standards of that master clown called Komekn. It is mega-stinky!!! Yuck!!! kennysville: 6 Likes 2 Shares |

TheGoodJoe: Atrocious in what sense? Playing at an unfamiliar altitude on a hot afternoon missing some of our regular legs or having 2 legitimate goals disallowed? Need I remind you the stats? Nigeria had 5 shots (2 on target), South Africa had 2 shots (1 on target). If for anything, I respect Rohr the more for sticking to that ugly football to get results as we could not afford to slip. South Africa in the latter parts had nothing on us. They could not venture past the wall. They had to result to long balls. They could neither run at us nor find spaces. For us a draw is as good as a win. If Siasia was this conservative in 2012 we would not have been knocked out of that year's AFCON. 7 Likes |

TheSuperNerd: I said what ever u saw in the 2013 Eaglets I saw that too in the 1993 Class. There could also be other things the 1993 had that the 2013 Eaglets never had. That 1993 Eaglets Class was supposed to be the dawn of New Golden Era. But that never happened which was why I said I have been expecting that ''New Dawn" since 1998 cos France 98 could have been the beginning of a New Golden Generation. None of the 1993 Eaglets team was part of the 1994 WC including the build ups to it. Babayaro taking over from Iroha, Mubi taking over from Eguavoen, and Kanu, Oruma and Ojigwe also progressing to the Super Eagles was supposed to be the transition to usher in the New era as even Oliseh, Okocha, Amuneke, Taribo, Babangida, Ikpeba and Amokachi were still young then. But we kept on trying to rebuild for '' Tomorrow''. We keep trying and trying and 20 years has gone and we are still trying to rebuild. I sincerely hope this crop of Eagles will emerge as another Golden Generation but I am yet to see the indications cos I have seen better assemblage of SE even after the First Golden Generation. 1 Like |

Joebie:You see why I keep insisting in coordinated, uninterrupted passes? Man City did 46 uninterrupted passes to score one of their goals against bitter rivals, Man U. We aren't them, but it's training and determination that births that. We can do it, at least it's not Man U we would be playing always. KingTom |

wayodude: In addition in the Final of the 1994 AFCON. We came back from a goal down to lead Zambia 2-1 with the second goal coming just after the commencement of the second half. But the team went to sleep again and were virtually pegged to our half for the remainder of the game. There were so many aged players in that team The 98 Class had younger players and with more attacking flair. We qualified from our group that had Spain and Bulgaria with a game to spare. We were already threatening Brazil as a potential Q/Final opponent and they too were getting ready for the challenge as Atlanta 96 was still fresh In their minds. Some pundits were already tipping us for the semi-final. What ever happened against Denmark.....mtcheew |

Pls what's our setpiece conversion/threat rate? Most of our goal under Rohr's been from open play with a few pks. This is a bugging issue always for previous managers. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by komekn(m): 3:04pm On Nov 19, 2018 |
kennysville: If your blinded by the negative you can't see the objective. Consider the context Glasgow Rangers is in the Scottish league rated number 20 in Europe and Villareal league La Liga is rated number 1 by UEFA. So taken in context the comparison is that Glasgow Rangers is lowly rated in comparison to Villarreal . Rangers didn't expect to win or even get a draw. They are the weaker team on paper. So the performance of Rangers was a bit of an upset. |
